Network Software
by Guest SPG- 0 replies

A while back in some online publication I read where an Administrator said that every morning he ran a network scan that inventoried all workstations hardware and software, and that it would flag any workstation that had a change in either the hardware or software. This, he said, is how he discovered some malware that was installed on 30 machines overnight. I just installed Softinventive's Total Network Inventory and am still learning it, when I have the time. But, does anyone know of any network scan software that will flag any changes in workstations (both hardware and software). Thanks, Sam

We are storing our shadow copies on an external USB drive. Whenever we need to reboot the PC, we lose all the previous shadow copies. How can we prevent this from happening? Or how can we back them up and restore them after a reboot.?

Every morning I review the logs on my DC's. On my PDC this morning I saw Security events logged through the night for our users and workstations. We shut down the workstations at the end of the day so no machines were actually on. The events I saw were event 674, Service Ticket Renewed. updating time

I'm trying to configure a DC to an external source using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816042/en-us I am getting event logs Time Provider NtpClient: No valid response has been received from manually configured peer 131.107.13.100,0x1 after 8 attempts to contact it. This peer will be discarded as a time source and NtpClient will attempt to discover a new peer with this DNS name. We have a vendor that manages our firewall and we put in a request yesterday to open the ntp port and the ip addresses to allow both in and out, but I have a feeling somewhere someone made a typo. I get this error on the two addresses I am using for ntp. Is there a way …

Completing the DNS install w/out IPv6?.....
by Guest Eric Miller- 2 replies

I already assigned static IP's to the IPv4 and I stuck trying to figure out the IPv6 addressing with no success. I understand the concept (I Think!), but after doing all this reading I still don't know what to put in the address field. Can I do this later after the install since I'm not going to have any problems the IPv4 address when there is only me? I need to do some meditating on IPv6 and for now I just want to complete the installation..

What client backup software
by Guest MarcusB- 3 replies

We are looking for backup solution for Clients (workstations) on our network. We was trying Symantec Backup Exec DLO option but it is to slow, and to complicated. We need software with client agents. We want that backup will be stored on the network drive (share) and it will be possible to recover files from backup without any program just copy the wanted file back to the workstation. The problem with Symantec is that if the whole Syamntec will crash you are not able to recover the backup data. What software will meet our expectations? MArcusB

We have a Windows 2003 server with a scheduled task that restarts a service for a 3rd party product. When this happens, it does not write to the event log. Is this normal? Should it write to the event log? Should all scheduled tasks write to the event log? Thanks. Mark

I have update my Windows Vista 32-Bit to the new SP1. But after installing the SP1, my Synaptic Mouse Pad is not work. And there is an update for that on the Windows Update Site but I can't update it for some unknown errors. "WindowsUpdate_800705B4" I am not sure how to proceed for help. I have tried the troubleshoot but that does not help too. I have a Toshiba Laptop. The Synaptic Mouse Pad was working perfectly fine until I installed the SP1. Can anyone help me solve the issue?

by Guest Barkley Bees- 4 replies

We are experiencing a problem with NTP in our AD network. Our Win2003 PDC is configured to get NTP information from our internal core switch. When we initally set this up it was working fine (see below success W32Time events): ----------------------- Event ID 37: The time provider NtpClient is currently receiving valid time data from ###.###.###.### (ntp.m|0x1|###.###.###.###:123->###.###.###.###:123).
