IIS Cache
by Guest Chris- 0 replies

Hi, We're using IIS v6. We create a website using style steets (.css). Sometimes we update the style sheet but when we refresh the web page the style sheet seems to have been cached as it's still displaying the old style sheet. If I recycle the ApplicationPool in IIS it works; if I stop and start the website it works; what is caching the style sheet? Any ideas? Thanks Chris

Server 2008 File Corruption
by Guest Ryan Masanz- 0 replies
I have a 2008 server setup for testing, we have a FoxPro database that is served off a server share on this box. It is simply files ( .dbf ) that exist on a normal share, not DFS, just plain old share. This application was living on a 2003 server, but testing it on the 2008 server - we are getting corruption. The indexes will randomly corrupt about 10 times a day. I have RDC turned off, it really is just a plain jane server. What changed with plain old file servering between 2003 and 2008? The client PCs are either XP or Vista.

I am working on getting our Domain Controllers to have Secure LDAP enabled. I know I could use one of the local certificates on the server to create one. Is this good enough and also how would I go about creating one on the server which I could use to secure my DC's. Thanks in advance.

INcreasing the accuracy of NTP
by Guest desktop- 1 reply
Hi, Can I increase the accuracy of NTP from 5 seconds to say 3 seconds? How would I go about doing so? At the minute I have a domain GPO that syncs all the clients to PDC which gets its time form an external source. THe problem is some clients have a drift which is greater than 5 or less than 5 seconds - which causes an app we use to complain.

How to Email a link to a file on a shared folder?
by Guest just bob- 2 replies

If I want to email someone a link to a file on a shared folder using Outlook, how am I supposed to do this? If we send a LNK file it is blocked by Outlook. Here is the path and filename. \\server1\Here is a shared folder\\here is my document.xls, How is a user supposed to send a link to this file to another user via Outlook? I have told people to not use spaces (instead use hyphens or underscores) in the folders and file names so we can create a real link which works in Outlook such as: \\server1\here-is-a-share-folder\here-is-my-dopcument.xls But even with this method, the user has to copy the path from the address bar to an email msg body, cop…

Shadow Copies
by Guest Jack B. Pollack- 0 replies

I just enabled "Shadow Copies" for one of my drives on Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. The drive is partitioned in half with D shadowing to E. E drive has 40GB Free I have set a limit of 10GB to be used for ShadowCopy I have let ShadowCopy run for a few days and I do see a list of previous backups. I have also successfully restored several random files to an alternate location. Two thing concern me: 1. The free space reported for drive E has not changed (I checked it before enabling ShadowCopy and now several days later and it is the same) although the ShadowCopy tab does report 397MB used. 2. The scheduled tasks log reports: "Volume Shad…

Problem with accessing PCTV To Go HD if logged in to domain
by Guest Gil Davis- 1 reply
I am not sure where this belongs, so if you can guide me with the right words, I would appreciate it. I have been trying to use a Pinnacle PCTV To Go HD box (a Slingbox type device) on my network. This box converts HD component video into an MPEG-2 stream for multicast wireless (802.11G) and remote internet access, and an MPEG-4 stream for local wired ethernet access. My network consists of a Windows 2003 Server as domain controller, a Windows 2000 Server as DNS and DHCP server, a Windows 2000 Pro client and a couple of Windows XP SP2 Pro clients. I first tried to connect the PCTV box to my network through a hub. I was able to run the Pinnacle setup…

Clone a Windows 2003 Std x64 TerminalServer (without Citrix)
by Guest Wolfgang Bauer- 3 replies

Dear Group, I have a Windows Server 2003 Standard Edt. x64 with Terminal Services enabled and some programs installed (Office 2007, MS Dynamics AX, aso.) and want to duplicate this server to a second machine (same model/type/hardware). Some people say that newSID is not working fine with x64 Windows 2003 server. Is this right, are there any other methods to do this? My plan is: Change one mirroring disk to the second (empty) server, boot him (without network), remove from domain (he's a member server), change name, change ip, make NEWSID (with tool version 4.10), reboot again (with network), assign to domain, finish. What do you mean? regards …

Screensaver Password Disabled but still requiring password
by Guest Graham- 1 reply

I have a problem with the screensaver that keeps requiring a password to get back to the desktop. I have GPOs in place to disable the screensaver password, and the GPResults wizard and RSOP both show that the password is disabled, but on some machines, it still locks and a password is required. Here's what we have: Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 domain Windows XP SP2 clients (all computers get the same standard image) Group Policy 1 on users' OU for all users that: * enables the screensaver * sets the marquee screensaver * sets the timeout period to 10 minutes * password protects the screensaver Group Policy 2 on specific workstation OU that: Computer Se…

Correct way to backup with 3-4 days back history.
by Guest Chris White- 0 replies

Hi All, I was wondering whats the best way to backup your file servers. At the moment I currently have the following setup for the main file servers DFS1-Hosting Namespaces on First VLAN DFS2-Primary File Store on First VLAN DFS3-"Offsite" File Store on Second VLAN This way I use the second file server for failover should the primary file server fail. Works well. But to cut to the question... I currently back up each namespace contents (Engineering, ITDepartment, Stationary, etc.) individually and overwrite an original "full copy" backup file with incremental backups. I wish to create a backup plan where I dont keep overwriting the same backup…

We are having Issues with the Windows Print Spooler dying in the System Event Viewer we see some Event ID: 23 Source: System saying Printer printer1 failed to initialize because a suitable HP LaserJet 9000 PCL 6 driver could not be found. Printer printer2 failed to initialize because a suitable HP LaserJet 5 driver could not be found. Printer printer3 failed to initialize because a suitable HP LaserJet 5 driver could not be found. These are NOT in our Windows Printers anymore, I believe we deleted these a while back but its complaining that the driver is no longer there. Moving Server 2003 Installation
by Guest EricMill- 1 reply

Hi, I have a rather unique situation on my hands. When setting up our initial network, we had some delays in receiving the proper hardware for our Domain Controller (in a single DC environment). Our non-OEM version of Windows Server 2003 was installed on a temporary box for production use while we were waiting for the proper hardware to arrive. Now that the proper hardware has arrived, we need to transfer our license of Windows Server 2003 from the temporary box to the proper hardware. I've researched the process of moving all of the FSMO roles and services over to a new primary DC, I'm confident that that part of the process will go smoothly. I a…

RRAS NAT & FTP Clients
by Guest Jim in Arizona- 0 replies

We have a Win2003 server as our proxy running NAT. When attempting to FTP into any ftp server using a command prompt (DOS FTP), it will connect but any commands beyond that will just hang, like 'ls' or 'dir'. I looked around for a solution and found that if you issue this command on the NAT box that it should fix the problem: netsh routing ip nat add ftp I then restarted the RRAS service. I found that using windows explorer for FTP works fine, but when using the command line FTP, it still hangs in the same way: C:\WINDOWS>ftp ftp.microsoft.com Connected to ftp.microsoft.com. 220 Microsoft FTP Service User (ftp.microsoft.com:(none)): anonymous …

I just built a new 2003 server standard and restored about 50 GB of data to this server. When using the search tool to access this network share it may return inaccruate results. The only resolution is to restart the indexing service. this clears up the problem for a short time. 2003 server SP2, there are event log error trying indicating a problem.
