Hi, I am looking to implemement digital forms in our network using one or more of Sharepoint Services, Forms Server, MOSS, and Infopath. I would like to use digital signatures on forms, and was wondering the best way to acheive this. I currently have no Certificate Authority (CA) and have Windows Server 2003 AD (I am repsonsible for 1 domain in a larger forest). I would like to use an Enterprise CA for ease of use / administration, however I am concerned that should company name or ownership change, and the domain need to be migrated or absorbed to another organisation then my digitally signed forms would be useless. Would using a stand alone CA avoid…

Help: Cleanup after first Domain Controler Crash
by Guest Robert R Kircher, Jr.- 4 replies

So my first domain controller in my environment crashed and now I'm wondering how to cleanup. I've already seized all the FSMO roles over to my second domain controller but I want to know what else I need to do to clean up. For example the server still is listed in Active Directories Users and Computer and Sites and Services. Should I just remove the references to the old server? Can anyone point me to a white paper or article that describes this situation? -- -- Rob

Restore Virtual Machine in Virtual Server 2005 Question
by Guest JonK- 3 replies

I created a virtual machine after getting the virtual server installed. I then read some of the best practices and operations manual, getting more confused as I read but plugging along. I moved the .vmc and the .vmd files to a different drive and folder that I had set up as the default search path. I then realized I needed to fix the drive I was using as it was just a FAT32 partition. I copied all to a temp folder and took care of the partioning and formatting of the drive the way I want for now. I made the partition the same drive letter as before and then brought the saved folders back. Now when I try and add back in the virtual machine I already had I …

I have a windows 2003 R2 domain environment in native mode. One of my users has a windows xp workstation and a mac laptop running Leopard. I have a shared folder on the server where all domain users have Full Shared and Modify NTFS permissions. When a user logs on to his XP workstations he does not have any problems creating new files in the shared public folder on the server, but when he accesses the same share using his MAC (types smb://server_ip/share) he gets prompted for his domain user name and password. After he authenticates, he can open/read any of the files in the share, but as soon as tries to save/copy any file over 10kb he getts an error on …

When a user logs through thin client to the server, gets message: your desktop is currently blank! Please notify your administrator. I created the same user under different name and can login fine on the same machine. But I need to have his old account fixed because of all his emails and other stuff. I renamed the old profile and logoff and log back but still get the same error message. I would appreciate any help

NTFS vs Share permisions
by Guest Louis- 4 replies

Hi, I have this dilema with share and NTFS permission... I am trying to restrict a share with just read permissions and then control write persmisions to the folders inside the share using NTFS permissions. But it seams read takes precedence over write. Conversly, if I give the share read/write permissions and NTFS read to the folders same thins happens. Any suggestion on how to circumvent this?

about Hyper-V
by Guest Synapse Syndrome- 2 replies

When using Hyper-V, is it right that the 'host' Windows 2008 OS has no more direct access to the hardware as any of the 'guest' OSs, as they all go through the HyperVisor? In that case, there is not chance of using other PCIe cards, even with the main 'host', as it were? Or does Hyper-V allow this someway? I'll have to experiment, but some experienced input would be appreciated. ss.

I posted this question some time back and it was never resolved. I trying to move my DHCP service from a W2K server to a W2K3 server. Here are the dteps I have done in order; 1. net stop dhcpserver (on W2K) 2. jetpack dhcp.mdb temp.mdb (on W2K) 3. Dhcpexim.exe (export configuration to c:\dhcpdatabase.txt and disable selected scope on local machine) (on W2K) 4. Disable dhcp service (on W2K) 5. copy dhcpdatabase.txt from W2K to W2K3 6. netsh dhcp server import c:\dhcpdatabase.txt all This is where I get an error. The error is; Error while importing option "5." This option conflicts with the existing option"" Is there any way of modifying the text f…

Imaging Boot Partition
by Guest mcp6453- 4 replies

Today I tried to use BootIt NG 1.83b to create an image of the boot partition of a Windows 2003 Server. The server has a hardware RAID. BING was able to see the boot partition and the USB drive with no problem. After I selected the boot partition (Image) and then pasted it to the USB drive (Paste), nothing happened. BING works with this hardware setup normally because I previously successfully used it to resize the boot partition. My objective is to create an image that can be used to restore the operating system in the event of a catastrophic failure. Other than BING, what software will work? Acronis? Whatever it is, it needs to work from DOS so that I ca…

All, I have a server that uses an automatic login at startup. We are having a problem when the server starts the auto login can not login because it is prompting us for a reason for an unexpected reboot. Is there a way to disable this prompt for a reason? I know this is not an ideal way to handle it, but this is what the customer wants. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Craig
