WMI ADAP errors with DotNet 3.5 - KB951683
by Guest Kieran- 0 replies

Hi, We're experiencing symptom 3, Message 2 in the knowledge base article with some of our servers and were wondering if there's a fix that's going to be released. While the text of the KB advises its going to be in the next service pack, the fix wasn't credited as being in 3.5 SP1 as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951847. Can someone from MS please advise if it is included, but not credited otherwise we'll have to work with MS support to get the hotfix talked about in the original KB article. Cheers, Kieran

Hello, Iam trying to create a database in SQLServer by pointing the database files to a UNC location (\\bigserversnas01\sql_use\) which is a SAN. This requires a trace flag as mentioned in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304261. But when trying to create the database, its giving me this error: Msg 1802, Level 16, State 4, Line 1 CREATE DATABASE failed. Some file names listed could not be created. Check related errors. Sever 2008 Backup fails with Virtual Server 2005 R2
by Guest HMike- 4 replies

Full Server backup has failed every time since Virtual Server was installed. The error message received is ... The VSS writer for Virtual Server failed during the PostBackup phase, during the mounting of disk \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy71\Users\Public\Documents\Shared Virtual Machines\Win2k3VPC\Win2k3VPC.vhd for virtual machine Win2k3VPC. The disk was a foreign/offline disk and the writer failed to make it Online, in order to access volumes on the disk. I do not beleive the disk is foreign (standard fixed size VHD) and definitely not offline. If I take the VM offline backup will work OK. However I would prefer for the VM to rema…

Problems Promoting Windows 2008 Core to Domain Controller
by Guest Marks70- 3 replies

Hello, I am not having any success trying to promote my Windows 2008 Core server to a domain controller. Everytime I try to promote it, I get the following error: "You must specify the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the domain in which you want to add this additional domain controller." I'm definitely specifying the domain in the unattend file. Here is the contents of the unattend file I'm pointing to: [DCINSTALL] UserName=test.local\administrator UserDomain=test.local Password=Password SiteName=Default-First-Site-Name ReplicaOrNewDomain=replica DatabasePath="C:\Windows\NTDS" LogPath="C:\Windows\NTDS" SYSVOLPath="C:\Windows\SYSVOL" Instal…

moving file server to new domain
by Guest Mizzleman- 3 replies

Hello, I need to migrate a few file servers from one AD domain to a new AD domain. We will be using a 3rd party tool to set up the user accounts and groups in the new domain based up on the structure of the old domain. How can I easily set up the permissions on the files, folders and shares on the file server in the new domain once I move it over? I would prefer not to have to manually visit each folder and share and set it up with the new domain permissions. Thanks.

Hi all Can anyone tell me if I'm likely to get problems mixing Office versions in a roaming profile environment? To put that in English, we are generally running Office 2003 on our desktops with roaming profiles enabled. I have recently aquired a laptop for one user which has Office 2007 installed. If he shifts between the two platforms with them hooked up to the network, will I get profile conflict issues? TIA Phil

I have 2 sites each running Win 2k3 Server with a common active directory using a VPN tunnel on our firewall to connect the two sites. At site one we have an external VPN server setup to allow our remote locations to log in and access Docs etc. At each site we have the users home folders for that site setup up in a data folder at that location. An example is Site 1 User A, B, and C each have a home folder under \\server1\data\A etc - Site 2 User D, E and F, have a home folder under \\server2\data\D etc. We didn't want to sync all the home folders bwteen the sites to save space on our servers. RIS Error 00004e44 - WePOS Image
by Guest Jeff Clegg- 0 replies

Hi there. I'm trying to get a WePOS (Windows Embedded Point of Service) RiPrep image to deploy via RIS. Unfortunately after I log into the Client Installation Wizard and choose my RiPrep Image I get Error 00004e44 - which leads me to KB262801 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/262801). I do have WePOS RiSetup image on the RIS box. One of the bullet points in KB262801 mentions an NTOSKRNL.exe hotfix, which we have applied since the WePOS 1.1 version does not ship with a version of NTOSKRNL.exe (The step by step guide at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms911830.aspx says to install http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814199 on page 2). I have tr…

Using Windows 2003. I'm trying to remove some files to free up some space. I see a large file called wrapper.log in the windows\ssl\logs folder. Can I remove this file or at least edit it and remove a lot of it? There are also a lot of files with drftpd.log. and the date (i.e. drftpd.log.2008-05-04). Is it safe to remove these? Thanks, -- Dan D.

Hi all, W2K3 Enterprise, SP 2. In the last week or so, my server has been shutting down. There are no errors in the event log prior to shutting down. Upon restart, I get a WINS error and more importantly a DCOM errror. I terminal service into this server to do all my work. WINS isn't a big issue for me, but DCOM is because without DCOM, I can't terminal service into the server. DCOM: Event ID: 10005 DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. by Guest Archi3- 1 reply

We are running Server 2003 R2 SP2 running Active Directory and as one of domain admins on the network, I get the message when I login to this domain controller via Remote Desktop. Windows cannot load the User profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system. Detail - insufficient system resources exist to, Complete the requested services. I've been looking for a solution to this and found KB article 935649 but I don't think this applies since this machine is not used as a Terminal Server. Is there any other possible solution as to why I get this message when I login? Is it AD not properly authenticating me or is it a TS pro…
