i have added username into Users folder I have right clicked folder on server and added user on security tab with write and modify permissions. I have right clicked folder and shared folder with share name and given user share permissions of change and read. User still cannot access folder/files or map to share. The folder we are mapping to is actually about 3 folders down from the root. I did not give user access to root folder. Do I need to?

Converting Dynamic Disk back to a basic disk
by Guest Saral6978- 5 replies

This is my situation - I have an old HP storageworks attached via SCSI cable to an HP Proliant DL380, Windows 2003 SP2. When the storageworks got migrated to this server, I accidentally converted the array to a Dynamic disk. I have since removed all data from this volume, and the only thing left is the System Volume Info and Recycler folders (hidden folders). I understand the first step in converting back to basic is to delete the volume itself (using Disk Mgmt). I attempt this step and I get the following warning: "The volume storage (E:) Simple volume is currently in use. To force the deletion of this volume, click Yes. Warning, forcing a deleti…

Eventlog size and GPO's
by Guest avallk- 1 reply

We currently have a GPO set for our eventlog sizes. We would like to remove the GPO, but in testing have seen that the event log drops back to the setting(s) that were in place prior to the GPO. Is there a location in the registry that 'saves' these old settings? Thanks Ken

We were previously capturing stats from our phone system via a serial port using HyperAccess. This is not available for WS2008. Is anyone aware of a way to easily capture this data to a text file on SW2008?

Configuring multiple outgoing fax printers, W2K2003
by Guest thundergod255- 0 replies

We have installed a four port modem in our Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller. This server is also used for file/print sharing. The goal was to have four printers that connect to each of the four ports on the modem so that users can decide what the outgoing number/line will be and print to the respective one. After installing the modem I can see all of the ports configured under fax services, but I can't seem to figure out how to make multiple fax printers. Is this possible? Thanks!

PXE windows install
by Guest freedom rock- 2 replies

Hi All, I’m tying to find a good package to manage PXE installs of Windows 2K3 systems on multiple hardware platforms. I used a package a couple of years ago that allowed for multiple driver packages and options for scripted installs, but I can’t seem to remember what the name of the package was. The plan is to set up something simple enough that the junior admins can rapidly build out servers that come will out consistent, and do it without adult supervision. (You’re basic DUH mode) Has anyone had any experience in this area? Thanks Dan H

Win2k3 Packet Size
by Guest brycejlowe- 0 replies

I am not really sure where to go with this. I am currently at a loss. I am trying to optimize communications between our iSCSI SAN and Windows Server 2003 boxes. Right now I am doing test copies between two Server boxes but the issue exists when I copy between a host and the SAN. Basically my servers are transmitting packets with a maximum size of 61K. My test switch can only handle 1.5K. We are going to be using jumbo packets but the 61K is still over the amount that switch can handle. Now I do not experience this on file transfers between Windows Vista boxes. Can someone tell me if this is normal? Let me know if you need clarification. -- bry…

After security update Office XP keeps asking for accepting end userlicense
by Guest yaro137@googlemail.com- 1 reply

After installing a security update for Office XP I'm getting a pop up message asking to accept end user license before I can use Word or Excel. All would be fine if it wasn't the terminal server where users connect to access Office applications. They can't accept the license as you need administrative privileges to do that so basically they get stuck till they contact me so I can log in as admin and accept the license for them. How do I set them up so they can accept that license themselves when it pops up again? yaro

Backwards compatibility Server 2008 product key
by Guest Herman- 1 reply

Hi All! I've run into a bit of a conundrum: we recently purchased 3 2003 Server Licences, with OEM Media Kits, however when it was delivered we discovered that the supplier had sent us 2008 OEM Media kits (and licences). From what I understand there is a way in which you can obtain 2003 Product Keys, based on the purchase of the 2008 edition - I've actually done this through the Eopen website, but for non-oem kits, please see Q2. All are standard editions, we wanted 2003 R2 64bit. Q1: Is this true? Q2: If so, how do we go about it? I've logged into the eopen website, where we normally register our non-oem server software, however this time round the …

We get about 22 users on Terminal Server 2003 SP2 and the "Processor Queue Length" goes wacky. We have an errant application somewhere, but don't know how to determine what application is causing this to happen. Any suggestions on where to look?
