Server 2003 fails to boot, "load needed DLLs"
by Guest Oranuf- 0 replies

System worked great for over 4 months. Rebooted a Windows 2003 Server instance inside XenExpress today, and instead of booting up as it should, all we get is the following error: "Windows could not start because of an error in the software. Please report this problem as : load needed DLLs for kernel. Please contact your support person to report this problem." Two other test instances in the VM also booted up with this error. That's three instances that are hosed. The OS has all the latest service packs and patches that I know of (SP2 plus all subsequent hotfixes/etc.), and had been rebooted since those updates without issue. Have tried all MS a…

Server Upgrade
by Guest Dellboy- 3 replies

Hi, don't know what happened to last Q. I reckon it got posted before I could ask my questions properly... I have two servers to upgrade (80 user network) and my query revolves around processors and windows version. It is a 3-server network, currently one 2003 Terminal Server (staying on domain, Member server) and two Win2000 (one an Exch 2000) servers. One server will be simple file and print, the other primarily an Exchange server. I intend using Windows Standard Edition, either 32 or 64-bit. Both servers will be AD controllers and will do other bits like DNS and DHCP. Q1. Will Windows 2003 standard edition take advantage of quad-core processors fo…

Server 2003: program installation problem
by Guest Jack- 4 replies

Hello, I do not have Windows Sever 2003, neither have an access to one. I am the software developer, and my application does not want to get installed in Server 2003. There is an apparent problem when running setup.exe (the installation file created by vbasic Setup Wizard) in Server 2003. The error is: "Invalid command-line parameters. Unable to continue" I know from the experience that that error appears always when trying to run Setup1.exe alone, which is a part of whole installation package. However, the user do not have access to that Setup1.exe file because it is a compressed file, and the only executable file in installation package…

Hi, I'd like to use any "smart" program to discover my computers on the network and get some reports. Everest Professional is very nice product but I need to run it on EVERY computer. I've checked LOGinventory and similar products... Well, my idea is: I have 200 computers on my network and I need to run once per month network discovery tool and collect hardware and software details from computer. Report must include like following: computer name, disk, memory and CPU characteristics, operating system, and all other settings are optional... Please advice what to use for this. p.s. any Microsoft products, like System Center Essentials maybe or...? …

Server 2003 Blue Screen at Logon
by Guest Rick Clapp- 9 replies

I have a Dell 700 Server running Windows 2003 SP1 and acting as a domain control on the other side of the world. The server works fine unless you attempt to logon remotely (RPD) or locally. If you do it crashes and creates a memory.dmp file. When you attempt to logon in again you get the crash message. System Failure: Stop Error 0x00000008 (0xc0000005, 0x809413c4, 0xf29098dc, 0x00000000) No module or process is shown. The system doesn't have symbols loaded so the crash analyser I have doesn't help. The right thing to do is contact MS to get assistance. My manager won't let me use one of our MS incidents because then she has to explain to her …

Interoperability between SFU 3.5 and R2
by Guest Jinbo- 0 replies

Hi, I know it is a weird request. But it has been giving me major headaches... My goal is to provide NFS service to my Linux clients from our main file sharing server, which is running 2003 R1 with SFU 3.5 installed. This main file server is also a domain controller. I have another domain controller running Windows R2. Presently, I have all my Linux clients using Active Directory LDAP Authentication provided by this R2 DC. I have no NIS service running anywhere. My question is, in this environment, how do I make the main file server (SFU 3.5 on R1) provide NFS service to our Linux client? Without having to maintain a manual mapping list? I tried…

Hi there, I have just installed 2003 Server Standard on a hard disk. It sits on a partition which is a basic volume and occupies 100% of the disk space. Is it possible to split that down so I can create new partitions? Do I have to use a 3rd party util or can I use the OS itself. Cheers, Simon

by Guest Richard Thompson- 1 reply

Windows Server 2008 is literally around the corner! I believe the launch is next week sometime! One of my colleagues has been punting that this is a stop gap operating system and Microsoft is going to be rushing to get the next server os out as soon as possible. I`ve already read rumours of the next client os which is supposedly going to replace Vista is already well in development and people believe it will be out next year. True or not, I dont really care! I am worried about the server os. Now, I dont expect any Microsoft employees or MVP`s to respond because I know you guys sign NDA`s and things like that which do not allow you to share such infor…

Data Backup options
by Guest Sher- 5 replies

Hi all, I know this is not really a microsoft question, but I wanted to ask about backup options. We are a non-profit mid sized business currently using tape backup on four different servers. I was wondering if there is a more relible method of backup up data in case of a disaster. Currently I take the friday backup tapes across town to a safe deposit box. (putting us a week behind in case of a disaster). Also I do not get Saturday or Sunday backups if users work on the weekend. I know there are option for backup appliances but that would mean they are in the same building as the servers. Are there any new options to cover auto backups, disaster re…

EFS File recovery
by Guest S Sainsbury- 1 reply

I have setup a PKI on a windows 2003 domain. I am testing the key recovery before rolling out PKI to users but am having difficulty. I encrypted a file called test.txt which was located on a network share (delegation setup) After encrypting the file I checked the details and it showed as "Administrator" being set as the recovery agent. I then logged onto the file server where the file resides and attempted to access it, my assumption being that as I was logging on as administrator who has been set as the recovery agent I would be able to decrypt the file, unfortunatly it failed with "access denied". Am I missing something simple here? Any helps …
