SNMP stops responding
by Guest Daveyji- 0 replies
Hi I have an ongoing problem which makes no sense to me. SNMP group policy updates occur every 90 minutes on a particular OU containing a number of servers. After a number of days have passed, usually a week or more SNMP security no longer allows access from a particular IP Address which is the machine we use for monitoring. Restarting the SNMP service fixes the problem for another week or two. I cannot find any changes that have been made by the update and do not understand why it works most of the time. Does anyone have any ideas?

FTP file permission issue
by Guest John- 1 reply
Hi, I download a text file daily from the Weather Bureau using a small batch file and FTP. The file is saved in the same folder as the batch file. Unfortunately, the file is not inheriting the security details from the folder which means users don't have access to it. If I manually change the security on the file by selecting "Allow inheritable permissions from the parent etc." then users have access. But as soon as the file is refreshed, that option is unselected and users no longer have access. Is there a way to either ensure a new file with the same name as the original will inherit the security settings from the folder? Alternatively, can I use m…

How to shorten timeout for connection to a non-existing IP
by Guest Yong Huang- 0 replies

[Posted to the server.networking group with no response] This command C:\>telnet 123.45.67.89 1521 Connecting To 123.45.67.89...Could not open connection to the host, on port 1521: Connect failed comes back with Connect failed error in about 20 or 21 seconds. What can be done to shorten this time? I tried these registry settings at HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: KeepAliveTime 120000 TcpTimedWaitDelay 120000 TcpWindowSize 64512 TCPMaxRetransmissions 1 The telnet still hangs for about 20 seconds. What am I missing? Thanks. Yong Huang

Who/What is sft@loader.com in our IIS Logs? MSFTPSVC Event 10
by Guest Charles Law- 5 replies

I have noticed that the system log on our Windows 2003 server contains several event 10 warnings: User sft@loader.com at host 89.246.42.91 has timed-out after 120 seconds of inactivity. Day-by-day the IP address changes, but the message is the same. Does anyone know what this is and, more to the point, how to stop it? TIA Charles

Hi, I have a question about ntbackup. I have a NEO2000 with one HP LTO3 drive and a barcode reader. From now, ntbackup is not recognizing most of tapes' barcodes (just 3 of 30!) but I can record/recover data. My question is if after this issue is fixed I will be able to recover the data from the tapes that the barcoed were initially unrecognized. Thanks for you help. kim_2381

explorer.exe issue
by Guest Dave B.- 0 replies
Hello, I am running 2K3 server and Citrix presentation server over it. I have one user who, for reason I cannot find, will have massive spikes in server side CPU/RAM utilization from explorer.exe. Explorer's resource usage goes to 25-35% of CPU and 40+ mb of RAM, when hardly anything is open. Only way to clear it is to cancell her connection, which at times causes profile corruption. There is no corresponding event in the event viewer either. All users normal usage for explorer is 0-2% and 10-12mb, and at this point in time, this seems to be attached to one user. Any idea on what I missed? Thanks for the help.

2003 DC reboots on preparing network connections
by Guest cptkirkh- 0 replies

One of my DCs reboots itself on "perparing network settings". When i try to go into safe mdoe it locks up on the Advanced Windows Optiosn screen and I can't choose safe mode. I have booted in Wininternals ERD to read the event viewer to see what has happened and it tells me nothing. Is there anyway to fix this or to at least see what happens? I even went in and diabed the NICs in the bios but it still reboots on the server.

DiskPart and Exdending
by Guest rcir88- 4 replies

I just changed my array to a RAID 5 from RAID 1+0 by adding two more hard drives to the two I already had. I am using one hard drive as a spare in the array. I expanded, migrated and extended the array on the physical drives successfully, and now I have to extend the virtual partition I have on the Microsoft Server 2003 OS. Disk Management shows C drive with 33.91 GB capacity with only 2.88 GB free space; E drive (data) with 4 MB capacity and 2 MB free space; and unallocated space of 33.91 GB. I want to extend my small E drive to include most of the 33.91 GB of unallocated space by using DiskPart. Below are the commands I entered to do this, but it ob…

RDP Access Hung after reboot
by Guest News Group- 14 replies

This has been happening more and more ever since the release of SP1 and SP2. After a system reboot through scheduled tasks (tsshutdn /REBOOT), we are not able to RDP into the server but the server is up and running (no other issues). This doesn't happen every time but it seems to be more frequent. The only way to fix it is to plug-in at the console and reboot the server again. Restarting any RPC related services never helps. We have a mixture of Windows 2003 Standard/Enterprise servers with all updates applied and running the latest RDC console on servers and workstations. Does anyone else run into this problem and if so, any suggestion on how to …

Win2k3 R2 FSRM Quota For Users Home Folders - Advice
by Guest Simon- 3 replies

Hi All, In a test lab, I have implemented Win2k3 R2, mainly for the Quota management software. On this Server, will be users Home Drives. These will be on the E: Volume and I created a folder called "Home Folders". Under this folder the Users Home Folders are stored in alphabetical folders A-Z (In other words, users Surname that start with the letter "A" will be in the root folder A, and so forth. I have around 2,500 Home Users Folders that need a quota enabled for 800MB I wanted to enquire on the best method of doing this. Ideally, I was trying to avoid doing it on a "per folder" basis for each user, seeing as there is alot to do. If anyone has …

I have a folder redirection policy currently applying to my entire domain. My documents is currently pointing to \\server1\redirected\ %USERNAME% I have created a new OU, blocked inheritance and created a new redirection policy with my docs pointing to \\server2\redirected\ %USERNAME% and moved the account in question into the new OU But, when I login as the user in question, my docs still points to \ \server1 and not to the new location of \\server2. Have tried rebooting, gpupdate /force. Do I need to delete the docs & settings folder on the workstation for the new location to take effect?

Redirected desktop access
by Guest Shieldfire- 6 replies

We have an installation with redirected desktop on our file server. However, from time to time users get the annoying error \\fsyd-ad02\users\USER\desktop is not available This happens for some users once every 4 logins or so. Sometimes less often. What should I be looking for in the logs? Another error which may be related, is that some logins are broken in that nothing is displayed, just the background image. Not even the error message and basic explorer is displayed, just nothing at all. Anyone seen this before? Martin S
