64bit Print server 32 bit Clients
by Guest Dave B- 0 replies

Hi there was wondering if anyone could help me I have a 64bit server running Windows 2003 R2 but all my client workstations are 32bit. After i recieved two Knonica C550 printer/copiers I began installing them on the print server. I of course had to install them on the server with 64 bit drivers that the workstations can not use. I remember that I had some trouble getting the 32 bit driver to install under the "additional drivers" section of the printer, but I did get them to install and everything seemed fine. Now however I realize that I can change the default setting for the printer. I change them on the server in the usual way, but this change isn'…

I'm having some sort of SCSI adapter problems. My server was blue screening about once a month, now it is blue screening every couple days. I reboot and everything is fine. This is running my backup system, I'm using Veritas Netbackup 6.0. I'm running Win2003 Server SP1. When the machine is back up, I'm able to run my backups and restore just fine, but at night every couple days, it is blue screening. I'm seeing as system error: A parity error was detected on \Device\Scsi\adpu160m2, also seeing an application error: TLD (0)[3860] GetTapeParameters for drive 5 (device 17) returned: No media in drive. It's losing it's connection with the scsi drive a…

DC Upgrade causes new accts on clients
by Guest SeriousSam- 4 replies

I recently upgraded a domain controller by reinstalling Windows 2003 Server on biggerbetterfaster hardware. In my ignorance I though that the client workstations (about 20 of them all XP Pro) would maintain the same domain user profiles on the clients as they had before the upgrade (username.domain). I unjoined each machine from the domain, re-installed the DC and rejoined the client stations to the domain. Instead of utilizing the already existing domain profile, each machine created another new profiles called "Username.DomainName.000". This caused me have to go to each client and move user settings around to recreate the users' desktop environments. Is …

Map and rename network drive ?
by Guest chrbar- 0 replies

Hi, I've used a script in the past, but I don't remember it! It was a logon script which maps network drives (to assign a choosen letter) and renames network drives (to assign a choosen name instead of the default name): Mapped drive with default name = temp$ on 'ghost1' (T:\) Mapped drive renamed = Temporary Files (T:\) Do you know the script lines to do that? Thanks, Chris

Windows shutdown/logoff interrupt script
by Guest Wendy- 0 replies

Did you ever find a solution to your wish to cancel a shutdown/logoff request if there are specific processes running? I am trying to implement the same fix on our automation servers and happened onto your discussion. So far, I'm leaning toward loading PSTools on each server and writing a script that utilizes PsList to verify that none of the critical processes are running but I would like to know what options you (or anyone else reading this) came across. Thanks, Wendy

Hi, Can someone recommend me a good tool to recover deleted files/folders from mapped network drive? Fast and recent recovery are important and I do not want to use backup/restore approach. VSS is not an option for us as we don't have the extra space for it. I would like to be able to do that on the server side, especially on the terminal server if it is possible. Thanks Keith

Server 2008 Ent Remote Desktop
by Guest CPickler- 2 replies

The computer is a new Dell Server and a fresh install of Server 2008 Enterprise. I have Remote Desktop enabled on the server utilized by the wizard. Windows Firewall is on as is the public and private firewall. This is an edge server so it has one public IP and a private IP. I get the same results coming from both private and public IP. I will use remote desktop to try to connect to the server, and the page will come up telling me incorrect username or password. I know the password and username are correct, but no matter what I type in I continuously get this error while trying to remote into the machine. I have created a new account with remote p…

We are using Windows Server 2003 and Active Directory. We have a application that needs to authenticate to LDAP using SSL because of the ability to change passwords. I plan on using a self-signed certificate. My question is that, once you have installed the SSL certificate do use always need to authenticate to SSL LDAP or is it just for applications that need it?

Hello, I am using Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 and I would like to mount a network share to a folder on the hard drive. So for instance I would like the content of \\networkshare\folder\ to be accessed through c:\networkshare\. I see that many people online refer to DFSUtil.exe to do this but I cannot figure it out. How do I do this? Thanks, John Chapman

by Guest LeRobert- 2 replies

Hi, for about three weeks I have the following problem with Server 2003 R2 (with SP2 and lather patches applied). The server shuts down at different times at night, three to four times a week. Two event IDs are recorded at each shutdown: * Event ID: 1000, source: Save dump. The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0xc0000415 (0xe1a51040, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). A full dump was not saved. * Event ID: 6008, source EventLog. The previous system shutdown at 2:36:52 on 16.5.2008 was unexpected. The server runs mainly IIS (web site), MySQL and PHP, FileZilla FTP Server. I tried many approaches already: - reinstalled S…

by Guest NexLAN- 3 replies

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the correct forum or not and if I'm not will someone please guide me in the right direction. We have a strange issue going on here. At my desk and at a client's desk when we go to a command prompt and type telnet smtp.domain.com 110 (or even 25) the banner will appear. Whenever I try to input any commands it doesn't matter what I type after I type one letter an automatic carriage return is input after the letter. This same thing happens on the mail server as well. I'm running Windows XP and so is the client. We have Windows 2003 on the server. Our mail server is a POP3 mail server with multiple domains. It does not matter…
