After Losing the LUN's I get Blank Shares
by Guest mvftw- 0 replies
I have a 2003 server attached to a HP SAN. After the SAN comes back to life, I have some mapped drives that will show up, but are blank. Some work right away even thou there are in the root folder... \\servername\public\folderx. After awhile they will appear. My mapping is \\servername\folderx, public is shared. Some users will see it right away and others will not right away. If I map them with the public... \\servername\public\folderx, they will see it. It looks like an 'indexing' problem or something...

Is there a way to make a 'normal' user an administrator (share creation/removal, backups, network config, etc) of a DC? I added the user to the Server Operators group but user can't start/stop print spooler and i don't want to give him domain admin access, i also added the user to the print operator but couldn't also and since the server is a DC i can't add him to the local admin group. please advice, efx

Backup devices (Veritas BackupExec)
by Guest wilscott1st@yahoo.com- 0 replies

Hello folks, I apologize (of course) if this isn't the correct group but I think some of you will be able to point me in the right direction. Problem: for 3 days now, Veritas reports "No media in Drive", "IO error occured" Possible solutions: Update driver, Check cable, turn on and off tape machine. Setup: DLT VS80 (Benchmark1) on SCSI cable (terminated via plug), Server 2003 SP1 Std., Veritas 10.0 Observations: Server recognizes Benchmark1 in Device manager. In Computer mngmnt/Removable storage/Libraries, the media is initialized and catalogued (this tells me Server 2003 can "see" the tape?) This has been in place for over 2 years and not been a problem…

Netbios/Smb shares
by Guest mmark751969- 0 replies

Wondering if anyone has seen erratic behavior with mapping smb/netbios shares on win2k3 server. I have a situation where one of my servers(the AD role holder)sometimes does not allow mapping to it's shares. There are 4 shares on the server that are advertised. When this happens, usually only 1 share of the 4 is showing in net hood and the other 3 aren't. When trying to map from explorer, a network share not found type message appears. This is a segmented network and lately, the few machines that report this are on another segment from the servers(although all segments are routed at the core switch). Thanks

Hi folks, Just wondering if anyone can offer any advice to solve this problem we are having with setting up network load balacing between two win 2003 r2 standard servers. We have two existing NLB clusters up and running behind the firewall in our datacentre. I have created the new cluster with the new IP addresses the same way as the other two servers. The cluster is set to use multicast with the port rules set to use single host. The problem we are getting is that when any ip address is hit in the new cluster i am getting an error in the browser. In firefox i get a 'connection reset' error message. When i referesh the page a few times the page event…

by Guest Mike- 2 replies

I want to run a scheduled task on a Windows 2003 server. I want to run the task using the local System account therefore I need to use AT as the Scheduled Tasks Wizard does not allow use of the local System account. I have used the WinAT.exe resource kit utility on NT4 and W2K servers but it is not included in the Windows 2003 resource kit tools. Is the 'WinAT.exe' utility approved on Windows Server 2003?

Server 2003 64 bit File Sharing with Mac
by Guest ryanmhuc@yahoo.com- 0 replies

On Windows 2003 Server 32 bit i can share fine with the Mac by 1. Local Security Policy - Disalbling "Digital Sign Communications" 2. Computer Management - Share Folders - Configure File Server For Macintosh - and set it to "Apple Clear Text" But on 64 bit there is no option to "Configure File Server For Macintosh". When i try to connect from a mac i get * If using afp it just times out and says there is no server * If using smb (samba) i get "Could not connect to the server because the name of password is incorrect". But the authentication box never comes up I have properly set the Local Security policy and i can share files with PC's. Anyone have any …

R2 Anonymous Security Issue
by Guest confusedr2@yahoo.com- 4 replies

I installed a 2003 R2 file server. I setup some folders and applied NTFS security permissions to them. I tested using a test domain logon w/ no rights to make sure that the standard user couldn't access the secured folders. Everything worked as expected. Jump forward a couple of weeks and I have discovered that if you are not logged into the domain - you can access the server with more rights than a standard user. For example - you can access the administrative shares, you can access folders that have NTFS security applied, etc. At first I thought it was a share rights issue, but you can't even edit the share rights for the admin shares. After doing some…

Renaming workstation after WDS image?
by Guest Nutzer- 1 reply
All, Just finished setting up my WDS server to image XP workstations. I created a sysprep.inf unattended file, syspreped the machine and captured, then imaged the machine. Everything worked out fine, except to rename the machine to "mycompany-XXX". I set the properties in WDS to set the format of the renaming to the correct syntax "mycompany-%03#" but every time I image up a workstation, it would give me "mycompa-ANXB" or something like that. Is my sysprep.inf incorrect? I set the "ComputerName=*" Shouldn't WDS be doing this correctly? Also, I set in WDS to join the workstation to a certain folder object in AD but it still puts it in the "Computers" object b…

E-mail when performance alert triggers
by Guest Paul-Henri Lampe- 4 replies

Hello All ! I would like to get an e-mail when an alert is triggered by the performance monitor on a Windows 2003 SBS system. The alert I want to get like that is when I'm running low on disk space on one of my logical drives. To do that, I configured an alert by following this technical note: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324752 . I followed these steps (sorry if the options aren't exactly the ones displayed by Windows: I'm translating them from French): .. Server Management -> System Tools -> Performance Logs and Alerts -> Alerts : I created one there monitoring the "Disk Full" counter ... General tab: added "Disk Full counter", with a l…
