My Documents Redirection
by Guest Jack Holmes- 1 reply

Hi, I've looked on the site but can't find an answer to the following question. Is it possible to change the destination of the redirection of SBS users' documents from the default 'Users' folder to a different place on the network? Ideally, to another drive (with more space) on the server? The reason I ask is because the redirection is currently done to the drive on which SBS is installed, but this doesn't have a lot of space, and I'd like to move the user's docs to a RAID drive with greater capacity. Would I have to re-install the server onto the RAID Drive? Thanks

Hi, On our stand alone 2003 server, our users don't get any kind of notification when their passwords expire, this usualy results in locked out accounts since they do not know why they can't log in. I'm sure it must be a configuration issue but I just can't seem to find it, can anyone help? Thank you Mark

Windows 2003 Std Server boot from SAN and LUN 0
by Guest EH- 0 replies

Hi, I am working on a BladeCenter and configuring a boot from SAN configuration using Windows 2003 Server Standard SP1. I am getting an error saying the LUN Number is greater than 0. I know it is recommended that the boot LUN be 0 but I am wondering if Windows can boot from a LUN Number that is not 0 ? If so, how do I get around this error during installation ? Thanks

HTML Help Image Editor not appearing in Programs on Start Menu
by Guest Chris Douglas- 1 reply

I am using Windows Server 2003. I really like the recently used programs section of the Start Menu, but I notice that certain Microsoft applications do not appear as they should. My understanding is that as the more an application is used, the higher it appears on the list. I use Microsoft Visual Source Safe and Microsoft Visual Source Safe Administrator quite often, but Administrator keeps dropping off the list. I have even removed items from the bottom of the list until it appears again, but then it disappears the next time I look for it. I also have determined that HTML Help Image Editor NEVER appears on the recently used program list. Never. I…

confused about time synchronisation
by Guest Jeroen Wijnands- 2 replies

I've got a small customer domain consisting oft 4 windows 2000 member servers, 1 windows 2000 domain controller and, since a few months 2 windows 2003 domain controllers. 2 of the member servers are running an application that requires these 2 servers to agree on time. Since there was upto a 50 seconds discrepancy I was asked to investigate. I followed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816042 to set the windows 2003 server that was the pdc emulator to use an external timesource. After this I stopped the w32time service on all the servers, did a w32tm -s and started the service again. All the windows 2000 servers now agree on the correct time. The 2003 servers …

I've seen in Microsoft webpage (http://www.microsoft.com/sql/prodinfo/features/compare-features.mspx) that Express Edition it uses only one CPU. But is just one physical CPU or one "virtual" CPU. I mean. If I've one Intel Quad, will it use all CPUs or just one of the 4th CPUs? Thank you in advance, Josep.

by Guest Umesh- 0 replies

Hi: I have Windows Server 2003 sp1. I had installed Certificate Services and it was working fine for me. It suddenly stopped working and not if I try to start the service I get "Certificate Services did not start: Unable to initialize the database connection for <CAserver>. Catastrophic failure Unexpected method call sequence. 0x8000ffff". I tried various tricks mentioned at http://www.derkeiler.com/Newsgroups/microsoft.public.windows.server.security/2005-08/0062.html and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/190059. But I am still getting the same error. When I uninstall and reinstall the certificate services, the service does start bu…

Windows Server Cal license compliance
by Guest headgeek- 1 reply

What is the recommended way to ensure license compliance for Server CALs? In Windows 2003 there was the licensing utility but it looks like in Windows 2008 even that was removed. For the minute I am interested in Windows 2003 but also would like to know how installations ensure comliance in Windows 2008. I have read the Microsoft documentaiton and I think I understand when I need a CAL and when I don't but our installation is complex enough that it will be difficult to accurately estimate this without some software prividing an audit. We are migrating from Novell and will be a fairly large installation - 25,000 workstations/users plus about 4,000 exter…

WIN2003: VPN Clients not getting IP Addresses
by Guest Gary- 0 replies
I need some help with Windows Server 2003 Routing and Remote Access and DHCP. Suddenly, VPN clients no longer get IP Addresses from the server when connecting up. My VPN connection shows an Autoconfiguration IP address instead. I saw some errors in the event log for Remote Access, but when looking at another server that is working, it has the same errors in the event log. Namely, event id: 20192 and 20169. 20169 actually describes kind of what my problem is...but since it still occurs on a working server, I'm assuming these are both unrelated. I'm not even sure where to start looking. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Restrict folder permission to prevent from moving
by Guest Fat Frog- 6 replies
I am trying to set up a folder permission like this: Regular uses are able to modify existing files and subfolders, create new files or subfolders; but they should not be able to move the said folder, because sometimes this folder was accidentally moved to somewhere else, possibly due to a slippery mouse. I had tried to take "modify" out of the permission list, this allows the user to write new files, but will not allow to modify existing files. They cannot even do "Save As". Thanks and regards. TL

Re: 2003 server hangs at Applying Computer Settings - Can't login

Re: 2003 server hangs at Applying Computer Settings - Can't login Hi Thread, I had exactly the same problem. Normal boot activity, IP stack comes up OK, server making all the right noises but hangs at the "Applying Computer Settings". By 'hangs' I mean, the system was obviously still responsive, but would not complete this process, hence no CTRL + ALT + DEL screen. The server was running Windows 2003 SBS server SP2 on a HP ML350 G5 which has known issues with the NIC (HP NC373i). I updated the driver to the latest edition, latest BIOS and latest NIC BIOS firstly and then opened a command prompt and did... C:\>NETSH WINSOCK RESET OK. Reboot to com…
