Delay Restart for scheduled installations Not Working
by Guest Mike- 5 replies
Hi, I have a GPO that sets "Delay Restart for scheduled installations" to enabled with a value of 15 minutes. Our Windows 2003 SP3 servers automatically download and install the updates at 6:00am after they are approved from WSUS. I want to delay the reboot by 15 mins to give our SQL server a chance to come online first. I set this policy but it is not working. I did run an RSOP and it is being applied. Any thoughts? Mike

Windows 2003 login scripts are empty
by Guest Callypso- 4 replies
Hi whoever reads this, I am a system administrator of a network of 30+ Windows 2003 servers wich I manage together with my other colleagues. Occasionally we have this problem that loginscripts suddenly stop working. When I check the \\localhost\netlogon share I find that several login scripts are 0KB and when I open them they turn out to be empty. This happens every once in a while and to several (changed) login scripts. Has anyone ever encountered this problem before or know what to do about it. It's a really annoying problem and neither me or my colleagues knows why. We have the same problem with GPO's so it would seem to be a replication problem…

POSSIBLE BUG - SCHTASKS command and Letter "D" on 64-bit Server 20
by Guest SteveJHU- 0 replies

Hi, I think I've come accross a bug in the SCHTASKS command on 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2003 (standard and enterprise) R2 SP2. When I try to use SCHTASKS to create a scheduled task, and the task name contains the letter "D", the command fails with an error message that states: "Reason: The Task Name may not contain the characters: <, >, :, /, \,|." If I remove the letter "D" from the task name, the task is created fine. Has anyone else experienced this or can verify this? I've only seen this on at least two 64-bit servers, but not on any 32-bit servers. ===== Here was the syntax of my command: This one did not work- SCHTASKS …

domain controller time service
by Guest Tigger- 3 replies

On our first domain controller, I did the "net time /querysntp" command and it came back with "time.windows.com,0x1". Does it mean that it syncs with that external time source? Or does it mean it does not sync at all with an external time source? I haven't done anything in the past so that was the default setting.

A customer I receive information from via web requests, will accept a self-signed certificate. However, I could never get this to work from their site. How do I setup the cert when I run Certificate Authority in Windows 2003 server? I have created a web cert with the entire name (somename.nnn.org), but when I import the server cert into IIS, the details show up as: somename.nnn.org Default Web Site The customer site rejects it. They do accept one from Verisign on a production server. What am I doing wrong? thanks jh

Win2k3 Srv - Localized language version in English?
by Guest Jeremy Phillips- 0 replies
I work for a company that develops a software suite that is supported on both English and Japanese OS. However, since I don't understand Japanese, it can be quite difficult to maintain/troubleshoot servers where the entire interface is in a language I don't understand. Most of the time I can fumble my way along by either knowing by memory where to click, or opening a connection to a 2nd server that's running in English and mimic mouse clicks. However, this is still a pain, and sometimes lists are sorted differently, so I can't always fall back on this method. I've scoured the internet and Microsoft for any options that would allow me to use an Engl…
