logon banner
by Guest Phil McNeill- 4 replies

Hi, We're looking to implement a logon banner for the usual legal reasons. Basically, anytime someone sits down at a corporate PC and hits CTRL-ALT-DEL to log on we want them to be presented with a dialogue box of legal text, and be forced to click on an OK button before they can input their username and password. Important notes: 1. The text we've been provided with is 35 lines with 1561 characters including spaces. 2. We have a mix of Windows 2000 and Windows XP clients this will need to work on. The domain is a Windows Server 2003 domain in mixed mode. 3. We'd like the message to be easily updateable. I seem to see a few different ways to …

DHCP Problem - I think??
by Guest RGA- 9 replies

I am running SBS 2003 SP1 and have recently noticed in the logs that I am getting event ID 1020 that states I have 0 IP addresses left to hand out from my scope. I run a network with only about 20 clients and had the scope set to give out 100 IPs. I have extended the scope and I don't get that error anymore, but upon further investigation I have realized that the "type" of ip addresses taking up all the leases are DHCP/BOOTP. Has anyone seen this or know what may be causing it as I can't seem to figure why all my ips keep getting leased. Thank in advance!

Windows Server 2008 and RAID Storage Managers
by Guest Dominick- 1 reply

Hi all, I am having trouble getting RAID Storage Managers to see any controllers on two different RAID servers. Both are Dell machines, both running 4 physical drives as two RAID 1 drives. For RAID controllers, is an Adaptec CERC SATA 1.5/6ch on an older Dell Precision 650, the second is a Dell SAS 6/IR Host Bus Adapter. So each uses different RAID Storage Manager Software under Windows, one uses the older Adaptec version, the other the newer Dell RAID Storage Manager by LSILogic. I verified controllers are on latest firmware, drivers are current. Both sets of RAID are optimal, no errors being reported. Both are running Windows Server 2008 with l…

2008 server>>setting permissions stops, freezes
by Guest Mike Bonvie- 0 replies

I have a folder (w/around 30 subfolders) which I need to add a user to & give full access to. On the root folder, I go to: properties\security\advanced\edit\add - add the account, check full control, apply it displays the progress of setting the permissions for around 30 seconds, some of the files have no spaces, spaces under_scores in the file name...then all of a sudden it stops - usually on a file with spaces in the name..BUT, looking at the progress before it freezes, it sets the permissions on several files with spaces in its name How can I get past this & have the permissions apply to all? any ideas would be appreciated! Thansk

NTBackup fails, Insufficient memory available
by Guest Kenact- 2 replies

I've got a Windows Server 2003 sp2 DC, patched completely up to date. Over the past few months I've been having an intermittant problem with it failing with the message "Insufficient memory available". It writes an 8017 message into the Event Log. The server only has 512mb, but the only function it servers is backup, and typically the is over 150mb available. I've checked out kb828402. I have a later version of NTBackup, so the hotfix won't install. NTBackup version 5.2.3790.3959, which includes the hooks for backing up Exchange. I've also tried the jsiinc.com tip to deallocate the tape. The job still fails every three or four days. Any ideas?

I have a question regarding Mozilla and Explorer. However I can't seem to find the right group where to post. I can see my web page fine using Internet Explorer, but for those who use Mozilla they can't see it with that server. Neither can I with Mozilla. Can someone tell me what may be blocking it? Thank you

by Guest Ryan Newington- 6 replies

Hi, We have installed WDS on several Windows Server 2008 machines, and each instance has the same fault. When booting a PXE client, the PXE boot fails with a TFTP: Access Violation error. Further testing by running TFTP manually from a command line returns the same result. C:\Users\Administrator>tftp -i 192.168.0.222 GET /boot/x86/pxeboot.com Error on server : Access violation. turning on advanced logging reveals the following information in the \windows\tracing log folder [4064] 12:02:08: [uDPPorts] Allocated dynamic port 64401. Hello, This one is driving me completely insane. 1 domain\site I have a 2008 x64 SP1 server running as a Hyper-V host - the host also hosts all the user\corp data shares the 2 DCs are 2008 x64, no 2003 DCs Fresh install of XP SP3 on a physical machine (not a VM), fully updated - (this behavior also is replicated on a XP SP3 VM) heres the situation: from my vista sp1 client I can browse the root \\server & all shares \\server\shares whether logged in as a user, or a domain admin from the xp box i cannot do either above, even using \\ip-address\ - I get this error: "the network name is no longer available" i went as far to install wins i…

I have a Server 2003 SP2 file server that has worked flawlessly for months on end. This morning I attempted to install the IIS components from the "add / remove windows component" interface, it asked for the standard the 'IIS_iis_switch.bat' file on Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition CDRom under i386 folder. Huh? I have searched high and low but have been unable to locate this file anywhere. So, my actual question is: Does this file really exist? Has anyone ever seen this file? Did I do something to deserve this trouble, or is this simply a problem with the sequence of installation events? I have looked everywhere, and tried everything I can thin…

Installing IIS on a domain controller?
by Guest pez- 1 reply

I know best practices state you should avoid installing IIS on a DC if at all possible. We just purchase Symantec Endpoint protection. Originally I planned on installing the management console on my XP Pro PC, but have run into the problem that XP only supports 10 concurrent connections. I would like to install the console on one of my DCs (because these are my only servers that have enough RAM to support this application). The problem is in order for the console to work it requires IIS. I understand the one of the reasons you don't want IIS installed on a DC is because of the security concerns. But if I am the only person accessing the management website is…
