by Guest JB- 0 replies

Issue with my network: I have windows 2003 server running as a virtual PC on my regular windows XP box. Its running as a development web server, but only for internal network access (not yet available to the outside world). Anyway the issue I am having, I was looking at out Win 2k3 domain controller at the address leases shown under DHCP. As soon as this virtual sevrer is booted it takes up 10 internal IP Addresses on the network (all with a unique ID of RAS). My own PCrunning the virtual PC software has 2 RAS IP addresses (in addition to its regular IP address). Since we are starting to run short of free IP's on our current subnet this isn't a good thing.…

We're having a problem on one of my servers. Basically, what I need to do is if the server is logged in with the administrator account, I want to force a logoff and auto log-in with another account. I know how to force a logoff but I can't figure out a way to login with the other account automatically. Any suggestions?

hi! we are using the faxclientconsole with no problems. there are two questions: in the sent fax window we have only the last two month. nobody is deleting older faxes . what happens to them? where can we change, that older faxes are not deleted? the strange thing is, that there are deleted from the harddrive as well - all faxes are saved in folders on the harddrive, one for incoming, one for outgoing faxes. in the folder of the incoming faxes we have only the last two month as well. the difference is, that the files on the harddrive are not deleted. any suggestions?? thanks

Windows Home Server and Pentium M "Speedstep" function
by Guest Lorenzo Sandini- 0 replies

Hello, I used to have a winXP pro machine as a file/ftp/web server in my home and it worked quite. It is based on an Asus P4P800-SE motherboard, a CT-479 adapter for Pentium M CPUs, and a Pentium M 770 (2.13GHz), 2 x 512MB DDR. Under XP, the CPU throttled down to 800MHz when idle, and went up to max frequency when under load (RARing archives for example). Problem is the CPU won't automatically throttle up or down anymore in WHS. I can manually adjust the frequency with utilities like NHC (Notebook Hardware Controller) or Speedswitch, and this seems to work as the current CPU speed is reported in the system properties tab, and the CPU temp also goe…

(systemroot) ServicePackFiles folder
by Guest E-Double- 2 replies
On a Win2003 Enterprise Server sp2 and under the %system root% folder there is a subfolder called ServicePackFiles which is close to 1GB in size. Under that folder there is an i386 folder and a ServicePackCache folder. What are these folders for and/or how are they used? And also can they be safely deleted? I am guessing its a source location for service pack files (hence the name), but is this just optional in case these service pack files are needed again or are these files actually used in a production environment from this location? TIA ...

Hi to all pros out there, i have read through the article you gave, but in the article, it doesn't shows how windows 2000 clear cache. i will try to clarify the problem i am facing, previously this company have a PDC (windows NT 4.0) with domain name (WORLDGROUP) with a few Server (windows 2000) connected to the domain network as member of the domain. Now they want to replace the old NT 4.0 machine to new machine with (windows server 2003) so firstly, i install the windows server 2003 with domain name (WORLDGROUPC) then link it to the network. after that, i have migrated from the NT 4.0 (WORLDGROUP) to WIN2003 (WORLDGROUPC) then after that, they said th…

Kerberos Errors When Remotely Managing From another 2003 Server
by Guest W2k3 Remote Manage Causes Kerberos Error- 2 replies
- 239 views
When I remotely manage the server from XP SP2 no error event is generated. (Right-click My Computer | Manage | Connect to Another Computer <MyServer>) When I remotely manage the server from another Windows 2003 SP2 server, I receive the following Kerberos Logon Failure Event. It may not matter, but it's filling my logs and become a source of irritation. It's Windows patches are up-to-date, so I expect this is related to an unexpected security "feature". Anyone understand the root cause, and know of a fix? Event Type: Failure Audit Event Source: Security Event Category: Logon/Logoff Event ID: 537 Date: 2/12/2008 Time: 2:23:07 PM User: N…

WSUS 3.0
by Guest lir- 1 reply
Hi everyone, I have just installed WSUS 3.0 in an stand alone server. I configured the group policy for WSUS pointing to http://servername. The GPO is linked to two different OUs. One of them only have a Windows XP computer. The other has a Windows Server 2003. The Windows XP is not able to see the WSUS's policy. When I run a gpresult, the report only shows the Default Group Policy, not the WSUS policy like the Windows Server 2003 computer shows. So the policy is working, but not for XP client. What should I check? Thank in advanced Best regards

by Guest Jack- 4 replies

Server 2008 File Properties: Created: Saturday, ?January ?12, ?2008, ??5:01:24 PM The same file in Windows XP has time stamp: Created: Saturday, January 12, 2008, 5:01:22 PM Why there is a 2 seconds difference? The file was created in XP and copied to the Server next day. It does happen to almost all copied files. Sometimes there is a difference of 1 second: Created: Monday, ?January ?28, ?2008, ??3:28:16 PM ===>server Created: Monday, January 28, 2008, 3:28:15 PM ===>XP Jack

patching win2k3 and reboot
by Guest Jeff- 3 replies
Hey I'm about to start installing some patches from microsoft on our win2k3 server today. There is a yellow icon in the sytem tray saying that updates are ready to be installed on this server. I wonder if there is a way I can find out if the server needs reboot because of these patches. Maybe I somehow can view what patches will be installed and in this window it display info regarding if reboot is needed of the server... , I don't know how to get this information - I ask because if a reboot isn't needed then the patching of the server will not affect the users so much any suggestions?

by Guest Cateyed- 5 replies

Hi there, One of my servers is doing the oddest thing. I think I've set RAS up wrong. My server has1 network card, with a manual settings as follows: IP: 192.168.100.2 Subnet: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.100.1 DNS: 127.0.0.1, 192.168.100.1 I'm running Windows Server 2003 with SP2. It is running as DNS server, DHCP server and VPN server for the network, and its all been working fine for well over 12 months. In fact, it is still working fine. I'm running my normal tests, and discover that pinging the server's name from any workstation returns 192.168.100.116, even though its static IP is 192.168.100.2. Investigating, I discover that this is …

One site - manual subnet
by Guest Marc S- 3 replies

I am an IT Director that inherited a network from consultants: I have One site, listed as the default "Default-First-Site-Name" with 3 Domain Controllers. 2 DCs are at local, 1 DC is remotely connected to a Disaster Recovery Site by a BOVPN. (Branch Office. No users at remote site, just 1 DC as a ready-hot site). We use subnet at the main office 192.168.10.0 and a subnet at the remote 192.168.11.0 that communicate thru the BOVPN. No connection issues. (1) Currently there are NO subnets listed in AD Sites and Services, and all communication and replication seem fine? Is this normal for a One Site shop??? (2) Is there a reason I should add either of …

Hi All I update a user's desktop with a specific picture when they log onto a standard Win2k3 server AD setup so that pupils have a blue background pic and teachers have a green background. A sort of IE scripting error message appears when I click the restore active desktop button. How do I correct this? Thanks
