Anyone have any suggestions for an MSI Repackager. I want to start pushing applications out via GP and some of them are old exe setups and I want to be able to make them into MSIs. Also, how does it work if you assign an MSI that requires some input information? I need to find some information on creating transforms or whatever it is.

Clients sync to wrong NTP DC
by Guest johnisccp- 3 replies

I have three W2K DCs. One is in the remote site and the other two DCs are in the Corp office. I setup the FSMO DC at corp office to get its time from the router. For some reason all the clients are getting its time from the remote DC. I compare the two DCs registry entry for W32Time. Everything looks the same except the registry entry "type". The remote DC has a the "type REG_SZ Nt5DS" and the FSMO DC has a "type REG_SZ NTP". Does it matter what the type is in the registry? I am trying to make sure the clients are sync their time to the FSMO DC and not the remote DC. I ran net time on my machine and it is show: C:\>net time Current time at \\A…

BINLSVC error in System event log
by Guest mu1980- 0 replies
"An error occurred during the parsing of an INF file netclass.inf in the given section Manufacturer." This warning message is repeatedly logged in the System log when I attempt to install an RIS image of a workstation to another workstation (same type). I've done everything Microsoft and Intel indicate for integrating the Intel PRO/1000 drivers into the RIS image and the KB article that talks about this error (823658) doesn't apply because the RIS server already contains the hotfix because it's at SP2 for Server 2003 R2. I'm not sure what to try next and I'm about out of options. Any suggestions? Thanks :)

hi guru, Just found that I have to install ADAM SP1 before installing W2K3 SP2, then I have the SP2 uninstalled as below, http://blogs.technet.com/isablog/archive/2007/03/27/isa-server-and-windows-server-2003-service-pack-2.aspx However, during the uninstallation process, it failed in the first place and saying "Cannot locate specific files"... then I have it run again, the wizard passed " Inspecting current configuration", " Checking Necessary Space"and " Stopping Services". And it stayed at the "Restoring Catalogs" for half an hour already. This is a Proxy server I have disabled the real-time scanning from my Symantec What should I do next? Any he…

Modem port forwarding rules get cleared
by Guest Gordouxx- 0 replies
using server 2003 R2 with single nic. We have a recurring problem with our modem/server setup. Its a Dlink 504T (gen2). I've opened ports (in the modem) for SMTP, web server, secure server, and remote web access (25,80,443 ,444) But they keep clearing, every 24 hours. So I have to reinstate them, then reboot modem. Have replaced original modem (504T gen1)... same problem. i have also encountered similar issue on 2003 R2 evaluation test bed server also using 504T. It seems to me that the server is doing it somehow, any thoughts folks ?

Can someone please tell me what this mean.
by Guest Ivor van der Merwe- 3 replies

Can someone please tell me what this mean and give me tips on how to resolve it. It is an event log writeup. The kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server GBRPC6712$. The target name used was cifs/NP0017A4CE8677.gbr.ad.fremantlemedia.net. This indicates that the password used to encrypt the kerberos service ticket is different than that on the target server. Commonly, this is due to identically named machine accounts in the target realm (GBR.AD.FREMANTLEMEDIA.NET), and the client realm. Please contact your system administrator. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.…

Mount behavior on W2K3 Standard and Enterprise hosts
by Guest Ralf Kastl- 2 replies
Hi experts, I'm looking for an official MS document reference (KB, Technet...) where I could find an explanation about the different NTFS mount behavior on STD and ENT hosts. STD behavior: The system will automatically assign the next available drive letter to a new disk with a NTFS partition on it. ENT behavior: The system will NOT assign the next available drive letter to such a drive. Instead, manual intervention to mount that disk is required. I do need this link to explain why the seen behavior is normal. Best regards Ralf

Enhanced Internet Security Configuration & Sophos
by Guest Steve- 0 replies

Hi All, Just a puzzling problem that I have run into. Currently we are using Sophos Enterprise Edition with On Access Scanning enabled. After a while, it seams to be that Sophos will lock down the network shares and not allow any user access to it. It seams to be that the on access scanner is scanning each particular file requested by a client, and is somehow being crippled. That being said, one of the proposed solutions that apparently worked was to disable Enhanced Internet Security Configuration. I am not sure what correlation there is between the two, but if anyone is kind enough to share any insights, experiences or similar situations that they ha…

LDAP/AD Query
by Guest swu30@hotmail.com- 0 replies
We have AD running on two W2k boxes and we have a couple of applications that need testing. The apps can make use of AD to allow users to authenticate with their network logins. One less password for users to keep track of. But, I need to be able to supply some of the LDAP attributes - O=xxx, CN=xxx, DC=xxx, etc. How can I query our AD to see what our schema is? To see what attributes are setup and can be passed onto the applications? Many thanks! - Steve

Best practice / method for finding general memory leaks
by Guest Thee Chicago Wolf- 2 replies
Trying to figure out if the server or our print control app is leaking and resulting in oddball behavior with print jobs. I have applied post-SP2 print related patches already and they've helped tremendously but there are still some niggling behaviors that I suspect are attributable to leaky app behavior (i.e., works fine for 2-3 weeks then problems begin to happen. Reboot of the server gives us 2-3 weeks of uneventful behavior and then odd behavior again). I've got no less than 19 KB articles that deal with and do patch existing and known memory leak issues. Rather than just install all the known hotfixes for memory leaks and cross my fingers, I'd rather take…

Server Upgrade Issues
by Guest bcifox- 0 replies

I recently upgraded a terminal server from Standard to Enterprise and am looking at the following issues. Users still get Profile cannot load...insufficient resources errors (1500, 1508) When I create a new user their default netuser.dat file is now 7,936 KB rather than 512 KB. Those are the two big deals for the moment. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve

server : HP ML370 G3 with Dual processors I have issue with Windows Server 2003 Ent with SP2, when try connect usb hdd. It is not detected. After applying w2k3 service pack 2 I noticed that the USB drive was not always being detected. I was advised to apply the hotfix KB931317 (Windows Server 2003 - KB931317 -x86-ENU.exe) but this has not solved the problem. I first noticed problems with the usb disk being detected while still on SP1. And thought SP2 would cure the problem. The hard drive is a toshiba MK4025GAS sold as a branded mobile hard disk called "flight case". - The usb HHD works fine on my w2k3 SP1 machine and on my XP SP2 machine - I…
