Print Server Hangs
by Guest robert.curry- 6 replies

We have a Win 2k3 SP2 R2 server, Dual 1400 Mhz, 2 gb RAM. It is hosting right around 200 Lexmark printers. (Its only purpose in life) Out of the blue, it will hang and nobody can print to it anymore. When you go to the console or RD to it it is basically unresponsive. What we have found is in the task manager "lmabcoms.exe" runs at %99 to %100 usage and is the culprit. A hard reboot and it is peachy again for a couple of days. During normal operation, lmabcoms.exe does not take any CPU cycles, just chugs along in task manager. I am wondering if anyone else has similar problems using Lexmark printers hosted from a print server. We are in constant communi…

HELP! Files trapped in frs-staging folder
by Guest Don B.- 1 reply

Hi All, DFS was incorrectly setup on our primary file server. In so doing, a large number of files were moved to the Frs-staging folder in an encrypted and compressed state. DFS is now working, but the files will not move downstream because their change records in the Change Journal were wiped out. We need to unencrypt and uncompress those files to recover them...desperately. FRS packed up the files to move them, to be sure there is a way to reverse that process? Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas, procedures, etc. are greatly appreciated. -- IT Manager Johnston County Industries http://www.jcindustries.com

File Replication Service - dedicated network link?
by Guest Richard Price- 5 replies
Hi, This morning I suffered what looks to be a full NtFRS resync across my two file servers (about 40GB of data) for no particular reason that I can see. The servers are actually unused at the moment, so none of the data is actually changing so I cant see any reason why a full resync would trigger. Is it possible to force NtFRS to replicate across a dedicated link? Both of the servers have an unused gigabit ethernet port that I can use to put a direct link between the two machines, but is there any way to force NtFRS to use that link rather than the general LAN one? Cheers Richard

RIS to WIM (WDS) image conversion failure
by Guest szilagyic- 3 replies

Hello: Recently we installed SP2 on our Win 2003 Server. We primarily use the server for doing RIS images, so now that SP2 installed WDS we are trying to get our images converted to Native format (WIM files). However, we can only get one RIS image converted. When we try to convert the second image, we get the error "An error occurred trying to Convert RIPrep Image. 0x80360051" at the very end of the conversion progress bar. The log file shows: [1716] 10:51:14: PerformingImageOperation called. [1716] 10:51:14: 99 [1716] 10:51:14: Total Progress is 0x41 [1716] 10:51:14: EndImageOperation called. Dynamic Disk Moves
by Guest Steve099- 0 replies

First of all, it seems like Basic Disks seem to have fewer problems when moving from one server to a different Server, copying data and then moving it back to the original server. I am trying to find a full (fool) proof procedure for people to follow when moving Dynamic disk. Here are the steps I think necessary, please help identify any other issues. (Admin left just drive letter un-assigned and did not shut down server) They ended up with 2 entries in registry with same signature and would not import disk. Said it was a duplicate. Proper steps? My Tasks is to temporally install a new large LUN to the old server to copy many small l…

restore file

Hi, Due to a non profit organization we have limited funds, so at this time I have the resources to backup data every night but it replaces the backup every night it doesn't append to it. I'm using the NT Backup program, with that being said I had a user yesterday delete a file over the network, the file was stored on the server and they where at thier workstation. I came in today and they said they accidently deleted the file yesterday, obviously with the backup running last night it over wrote the file that was there, is there anyway to get that file back? Thanks Craig

DHCP server assigning addresses on remote subnet
by Guest Scott- 6 replies

Stupid Question: I have a remote subnet connected via a WAN link. The DHCP server is installed on the opposite side of the WAN link. The Cisco router is configured with the IP Helper Address command, to point to the DHCP server's IP Address, but does not specify an address range/subnet. The DHCP server is configured for multiple subnets. If the Cisco router is configured only with the address of the DHCP server, and not any details about which range to obtain addresses from, how does the DHCP know from which pool to assign addresses to this remote subnet? Does it use the LAN address from the router as an index?

How to customize the WS 2003 command prompt?
by Guest David Brockus- 3 replies
Hello, I would like to have a command prompt that includes <username>@<computername> <current_drive_letter><current_path> dbrockus@whaterverhost c:\ I am unable to get %USERNAME% and %COMPUTERNAME% to work when I am setting the PROMPT environment variable. The Command Prompt prints the variable name instead of the value. When I do an echo at a prompt for the variable name I get the values back so I know they are correctly defined. Any ideas? Thanks, David

time service mystery
by Guest Blake- 0 replies

I have the time service set on my PDC emulator to point to a router here on the network via http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816043. I can confirm this router is responding to NTP. I run w32tm /resync from a prompt and the clock sets itself correctly. About 3 seconds later, it changes to a time that is about 1.5 minutes off (slow, in this case). It is a consistent behavior.
