Okay so I'm setting up a mail server using 2003 server and I can't get it to work properly Every time I set up to get my mail from the server in outlook I get the following error after hitting the "send/receive" button: Task 'THETEST - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC92): Your em-mail server resjected your login. Verify your user nae and password in your account properties under Tools, click email accounts. The server responded: ERR Logon Failure" I know I'm not typing in the password wrong so what could the problem be? I can see in the pop3 manager that the mail accounts are getting messages. I just wanna know why I keep gettig errors …

MS File Server Migration Wizard question
by Guest AllenK- 0 replies
Hello all, I am going to be installing a W2K3 Server in an existing W2K domain and I would like to use the FS Migration Wizard to copy shared folders to the W2K3 machine. One thing I have noticed is the old server has shared subfolders under shared folders. Example: \\oldserver\apps\users. I would like to maintain the same shared names on the new server as the old server. By default the new shares are created with a _oldservername at the end of the share name. I know I can change the root share before copying the shares, but have not figured out how to change the subfolders sharing so the _oldservername is not part of the new share. I'm not…

PATH environment variable hosed, and all normal files need Administrator access (??!)
by Guest Jon Davis- 1 reply

Using Windows Server 2008 as a developer workstation, with all recent updates installed. If I open a command prompt (cmd.exe) as myself, the global PATH variable is populated. But it doesn't do much good because, as a developer and power user, I cannot do anything I'd normally do, like "defrag" because you must run cmd.exe as Administrator. If I open a command prompt "as Administrator", the global PATH variable is NOT populated; only my profile PATH that normally gets prepended to the global PATH is populated. I had to create a setpath.bat file and paste my global PATH variable. But that was a kludge and I'm finding normal, non-console apps not fu…

I would like to share my whole hard drive but the security policy only allows sharing folders and not drivers. Is there any registry "tweak" for this?

I have a W2K3 Enterprise Print Server. It has about 120 printers on it. Most are HP Printing Devices. As of recent we are having many of the HP printer queue's freeze. The only way to gets jobs flowing thru them is to restart the Printer Spooler Service then delete all the jobs then it starts working again. This does not affect any of the other Printer's. We are having to do this about 3 times a week with different printer's. Any suggestions on why we keep having to do this?

by Guest gwc42- 2 replies

Hello, Any software or windows update related installs take FOREVER on our 2003 server. During installs, I will see the msiexec.exe windows installer process in the task manager taking on average 13% of the CPU. There are no other users on the server, antivirus is disabled, etc. This server has been in operation for over a year. This issuse started a few months ago. I have not been able to tie it to any changes made to the server. Applications run fine it is just installs that take forever. server 2003 SP2 terminal services mode Dell PowerEdge 6800 2 2.66GHz dual core Xeon processors w/4 GB RAM windows installer version is 3.1.4000.4042. …

Cannot log onto DC console
by Guest Thorny- 7 replies

Hi Guys, I have a customer who is running a windows 2003 domain in mixed mode and has 2 DCs, one is a File server and the other a SQL server. Whenever I try to log onto the console of the File server DC (either physically connecting to the machine or using mstsc /console), I enter the user credentials into the CTRL+ALT+DELETE screen, then it show the 'applying personal settings' then 'saving your settings' before taking you back to the CTRL+ALT+DELETE screen. I can successfully log onto the same machine using RDP (not using the console). There is nothing obvious in the event logs and all services are running. Does anyone have any ideas?

2003 Server R2 SP2 AD problems
by Guest Josh - DSTECH- 1 reply

Good morning all, I have been having issues with a 2003 Server R2 with SP2 for about a month now. It is the lone domain controller in a single-server environment with less than 20 user accounts/client PCs. About once a week AD seems to stop responding completely. After a reboot everything comes back up fine and works again for approximately a week. During the down time I get Event IDs of 4000 and 9999 repeatedly in my DNS Server log as well as Userenv - 1053 repeatedly in the Application log. If I attempt to open ADUC I get an error of "The server is not operational". dcdiag comes back with the following: Domain Controller Diagnosis Performing initia…

Hi First of all my apologies for cross posting, but this covers many issues that I do not think may be possible to cover in a single post. If I have underestimated the skills in the community, again my apologies. I have a major redesign of our network to undertake - without impinging on the business operation. I can't really do a weekend as we are a 24/7 operation. I need to move from 1 scenario to another and am looking for the best way of doing it - these follow. Current Scenario - Externally managed Linux Server with 3 ADSL lines acting as Gateway/DHCP Server/Firewall/VPN Server (OpenVPN)/File Server Windows 2K3 R2 servers managing DNS/Active …
