I am running Windows Server 2008, and I have tried to share my desktop, as I use it to drop files etc. from my laptop. When I share it, the system says it is shared. But if I bring up Network, then click on the shares for my Server, Desktop is not shown (other shares are). Why is this? Thanks!

Pinging issue on a couple of windows 2003 servers
by Guest Sara L- 0 replies
Here is the scenario: I have three 3Com 4200G series switches. I have 8 servers. All servers are HP Proliant DL380, 360, or 320 servers. All servers are connected to the same 3COM switch. I have 2 APC Smart-UPS 5000 RM XL. These are plugged into the same 3COM switch. I'm having an issue in which some of the servers can ping both of these APC devices, some can only ping 1 of the APC devices, and some cannot ping either of them. All servers can ping each other. I can't figure out why some of the servers can ping the APC devices and some can't. It doesn't make any sense. The 3COM switches are not specifically configured for anything special. All…

Hello, Is there a script or something that would allow one to change the membership of a number of workstations that are in a workgroup to domain membership? I've been manually joining the domain for workstations in the past but I am finding that may not be possible for a large number of workstations. -- Thank you for your help! JYC

I've got some duplicate, non-usable object itentifiers in my Microsoft Enterprise CA. I'd like to delete them because I need to create a new Application Policy with the same name and don't want any confusion. Does anyone know where to go to delete them? -- Sandy Wood Orange County District Attorney

cygwin problems on 2003 Enterprise, impersonating fails.
by Guest qa4ever- 0 replies

Hi On Win2003 SP2 Enterprise _only_ we have seen an odd thing happening when logging on using telnet. telnet into machine work but inside telnet prompt "switching to user andy failed" cygwin inetd service, who runs the telnet service, is running as "Local System" account and interact with desktop. Identical to other 2k3 Standard Edition Computers , this works (running cygwin on LocalSystem account and login successfully) . In what respect is Windows Enterprise Edition different than Standard Edition in these service and security areas? (I think basically the cygwin inetd NT service tries to impersonate the other user but fails, but why ? ) We have …

Directory services restore loop?
by Guest Transam388- 0 replies
Have run into one of the LSASS.exe errors and Directory services unable to start issues. Now it says to use the F8 and run Directory services restore / repair but now this has gotten the system into sort of a setup loop. It always wants to go into the Setup / Directory services restore but then has the error about lsass.exe with the 2e1 detail so all it will do is restart. I am offsite but have ILO working so can at least work on the server. Anyone have some ideas on how to get into this thing without just doing a system restore / rebuild? Even safe mode command prompt goes right back into the DSR / setup. It was a primary DC but there is a backup so…

by Guest abercrombie07- 2 replies

Is there a way to track the active outbound HTTP connections for Windows 2003 server? The HTTP Connections counter is inbound only (and the register 0) and I know there are connections being made because I can read the response back from the server. -- DJ Baby Anne''s Biggest Fan

Does the NLB Service 'Know' if Something is Listening?
by Guest Charles Law- 5 replies
When the NLB service forwards to the nodes in an NLB cluster, does it know whether something is listening on a given port? Suppose I have a 2-node NLB cluster. I run the same program on both nodes, listening on the same port. I expect that NLB will share incoming sessions/messages between the nodes, depending on how I have configured it. When a node goes down, NLB should just send messages to the remaining node. But what happens if both nodes are running, and I stop my program running on one of the nodes? Is NLB clever enough to see that there is nothing listening to the port on one of the nodes, and therefore just forward to the other node, or does i…

Hello everyone. I could really use some help here. I know the description is long. But I'm trying to give as much info as I can. Please help! I created a logon script for mapping network drives that is in the active directory->domain->group policy->.... logon script. This logon script works fine for all users. I wanted to create a intranet system with using internet explorer so users can simply browse with links to all the various things that they need. I created the web pages and they are working fine. We have a w2k3 sp2 server and lots of xp sp2 pc's. Most of our users have roaming profiles. We have now added a couple of vista machines for testing and wondered if there was a way of setting up a user account to use the alternative roaming profile for vista when the user uses this machine. WINS
by Guest boba- 3 replies

I don't see WINS configured on any of our Servers. Only DNS with backup DNS. LMHosts lookup is enabled. Does it matter if WINS is configured or not. If I have to can I do it on one of the DCs? We have two DCs. We have some virtual servers (5-7) and 4-5 other servers. I am new to the company. Not enough info is present. Mostly users are using Wyse thin clients to connect to Citrix servers (3 of them). Thanks!

2003 server remote access, how to?
by Guest Paul0426- 1 reply

I'm a Novell guy working with my first w2003 server. I'm use to a "rconj" utility which gives me access to the server like I was sitting at the local console. How do I get the same with a 2003 server. What I have read so far seems to point me towards a remote command line console. Am I missing something? -- Paul
