Internet Zone Default security
by Guest Chris Coates- 1 reply

I am running 2008 Server and need to change the IE7 internet zone security level from high to medium high. I am well aware of the security benefits of the High setting, and the risks of lowering it. That said, how do I change to Medium-High? When I click on default level in the IE internet security option for the internet zone. I am unable to pull the bar down to change the security level. Thanks Chris

by Guest Chris Gibbs- 1 reply

Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has any ideas how to do this please? We are trying to get access to WMI information on a Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003 SP1 box. I have setup a domain user account and added this account to the security permissions for WMI. I have also added this account to the DCOM Security Settings for "Launch and Activation permissions" with full remote control on both. I am still receiving a error when I'm running a script to poll data. "80041003 - Access Denied" There is no problem with the script as I have successfully tested when the domain user is added to the local administrator group. Any help would be g…

Hello I have an application installed on Windows 2003 Server. I can only run the App using "run as" a local account. However when I log in using the same local account, the app does not launch. I get the error "you have to run setup," as if the app is not installed. Should'nt it work when I log on using the same account I run the app as? The app works fine using WinXP Regards MH

shadow copy - only 1 copy appearing
by Guest Sleb- 2 replies
Hi, I have seen this problem a couple of times on windows 2003 servers even though this is not a common issue (different clients). When I look at shadow copies of a drive, I see only 1 copy. It looks like everytime it does a copy, it deletes the old ones. I've checked the schedule, the quota, deactivate/reactivate with default options, all the options, everything is fine and even redoing the shadow copy configuration did nothing. If I do a shadow copy manually, I now see 2 shadow copies. The one made by the schedule and mine (I've done a couple manually and can see all of them). But at the next schedule, I will see only 1 copy which is the last one made…

We now have a need to migrate service from older system, but desired target server already at R2, RIS not installed previosuly, and I can not seem to get around a WDS install in Native mode (which does not support the existing RIS images). Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Bill

SCSI vs SATA for Virtual Machine SAN box

We're getting a SAN to use with our VMs. We understand that SCSI drives are much better for SAN used for VMs. Our price target requires SATA, however. Has anyone seen a study of the performance drawbacks and sacrifices that are inherit with using SATA rather than SCSI drives for VM applications? - Dan

Terminal Server 2008 woes. Unable to print to network share
by Guest YADER.CELL@gmail.com- 0 replies

Hi there, I am testing terminal server 2008 and remote app. However, I ran into an issue with clients being unable to print from a published remoteapp session. If I log into the server with the admin account, I am able to print via the remote session. If I log into the remoteapp via a power user account, I simply cannot print. It will refuse to carry over my local printers to the terminal server. I also understand that the new TS supports a new printing mechanism called easy print. Well, I guess its not too easy at all lol. I temporarily assigned the power user as a temp local admin to see if its a permission issue. same problem persists, It wont …

Longshot
by Guest Glen- 1 reply

I know this is a long shot but... Is there a way to start an application in the same state it exists when you disconnect a remote session on Server 2003? This is what I want to accomplish: I have some critical software of a questionable quality. I have written a Ruby service that will start the app at boot and check periodically to make sure it's still running. I would like to be able to launch this program in such a way that when the account it runs as logs in they can interact with the GUI. Basically I want the same behavior you get when you log-in remotely, start it up, disconnect, then log in again and it's still there and ready to go. If someone…

I haven't used this in a while and can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I am trying to execute a vbs script that will copy files to another pc. The script works fine run by itself, but psexec is giving me an error of "system cannot find the file specified". I'm sure it's a real basic thing, can someone tell me what is wrong?? psexec \\mw_pc20 -u DOMAIN\administrator -p password \\mw_pc21\sharedfolder\file.vbs The pc20 is the target pc and the pc21 is mine in this example. I took notes before but apparently I'm missing something.

Determining what consumes memory on Win2K3 server....
by Guest Noctaire- 1 reply

I have a box that is consuming roughly 50G of memory. It has 64G physical, 32G virtual. I want to determine what is using the memory. Just looking at the "Mem Usage" column in task manager doesn't add up. Where else can I look to get a better break down of memory consumption?
