Is there a way to connect to an ldap server from client services for unix user name mapping on server 2000. I read that 2003 supports this but was wondering if anyone has found a workaround.

by Guest Eddie- 7 replies

Hello, I am planning to upgrade 2 DC's running 2000 standard to 2003 standard r2. These servers are the PDC and BDC of the domain and the only servers still running windows 2000 left in the domain. I've been running in mixed mode for a couple of years and have upgraded all other servers except for the 2 DC's. I am also running an exchange 2003 server in this environment. I have download the following document http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325379 should these instructions be sufficient for what I want to accomplish? Thanks, Eddie

Upgrade server 2003 hardware
by Guest Dave Hickman- 5 replies

I need to upgrade the lone server, running AD, DNS and DHCP, in the domain to a completely new box. I would like to do it a seemlesly as possible and wanted input regarding suggested steps for doing the migration and any pitfalls I should avoid. Is it as simple as installing Server 2003, making the device a member server, synchronizing the AD and DHCP, demoting the old server, promoting the new server and then copying the file structure? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Dave

Hello, We are trying to monitor whether or not processes are running on the windows 2003 servers that we have. I currently have an odd problem. When I do an snmpwalk (from a unix server running nagios) of the hrSWRunName OID, it is supposed to show me ALL of the running processes but it only shows about 12-15 of them and just like murphy's law, it doesnt show the processes that I need to monitor! Any suggestions? thanks

Cannot rdp into Domain controllers
by Guest Mike Bannister- 3 replies

I had a 2003 domain with a 2003 & 2000 domain controller. I ran dcpromo on the 2000 box and demoted it to a member server. I then ran adprep /forestprep on the 2003 domain controller and then I ran dcpromo on a Windows 2003 R2 box and made it a domain controller. I can no longer rdp into either domain controller with domain administrator credentials. I see a security event 534 when I try and I also get this message interactively: "To log on to this remote computer, you must be granted the Allow log on through Terminal Services right. By default, members of the Remote Desktop Users group have this right. If you are not a member of the Remote Desktop…

.MSI

I am trying to create (which I have done) a GPO to push .Net 2.0 Framework to 24 computers. I have converted the .exe to .msi with freeware (Advcance Installer 6.2), created the GPO and pused it out. Computers see it, shows window after applying security settings and before you login, but my problem is that .Net 2.0 Framework requires user interaction to finish and runs in to the ULLA acceptance. Therefore it may get pushed but not installed How can this be accpomplished, to automate an installation that requires you to choose options? Thanks to those that respond.

NTBackup catalogs question
by Guest Jim- 2 replies
\All Users\application data\microsoft\windows\ntbackup\catalogs51 is the repository of catalogs created by running NTBackup. One of my clients has about 1.5 GB of catalogs in this folder dating from 2006, 2007, and 2008, through today, and all but the last five have no corresponding backup data file (.bkf), because the files have been deleted. Before I go and delete these, is there any reason why I should retain them? Thanks in advance, Jim

Windows Server 2003, VSS and Paged pool bytes exhausted by mmst ta
by Guest Jesse Pastrano- 6 replies

Hi there, we are facing the following problem: On our Windows Server 2003 SP2 Standard Edition File server we are forced to reboot due to low Paged Physical Kernel Memory. Once we reach around 350,000 K, the server stops responding to client requests and we can not access it from the console. (Eventid 2020: The server was unable to allocate from the system paged pool because the pool was empty.) This is a Fileserver with approx 2 TB of data containing AutoCAD files and user home directories. All volumes use Volume Shadow Copies for Folders to give our users the Previous Versions possibility. The target for these Shadow Copies is another Volume f…

Windows Home Server vs Windows Server Enterprise
by Guest hufaunder@yahoo.com- 1 reply

I really like what Windows Home Server has to offer: *Automated daily backups of multiple computers *Remote access *Streaming music *The way storage can be expanded including redundancy Now I have a Windows Server Enterprise license sitting around doing nothing. So rather then shelling out money for Windows Home Server I am wondering if Windows SErver Enterprise can do all of the above as well. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

This seems wrong to me, can someone confirm? …

Pesky Profile Problem
by Guest Frank- 0 replies
Due to some weird things occuring with a user's account, I decided to delete the profile. Of course, that means deleting it from the profile storage location on the server, deleting the profile on the XP PC in profiles and removing the profile path in the user's account. At this point, no trace of a previous profile should exist. Yet, when the user logs in, desktop icons from the previous profile re-appear and a shortcut (that points to a mapped server drive) still has a .dll error. Repeating this process, I had the user login to a computer never used by him previously. I repeated the deletion steps. He logs in. Same problem. It has to be pulling thi…

disk.sys stop 0x00000050 page fault
by Guest Tamarin- 1 reply

I'm running server 2k3 ent x64, 8gig ram. After installing just the OS off the CD, the system is fine. But once I start patching or install the chipset drivers, the system starts bluescreening on an almost clockwork basis. I tried installing hotfix 929161 as it was the only disk.sys related fix I could find. Still no luck. OCA just says driver issue, and doesn't give any specific ideas. Does anyone have any ideas?
