Hi Guys, something is really confusing me here, so please could someone step in and explain this to me in laymans terms, if possible.... 1) When I look at the size of the user profile (right my computer, properties, advanced tab, user profiles settings button) i see a number of accounts listed... all with the sizes of their profiles... all good 2) When I explore to the users profile (c:\documents&Settings\%username%).. which I understood is the users profile location in the file system and do properties on that usernames folder... I get an even bigger size than that in part 1 above.... So for example for a particular user, in Part 1 the size is…

Memory Calculations Not Making Sence To Me
by Guest Bishop- 0 replies
I'm sure I'm just being dumb but I can't seem to make this calculate. We just put in a new server with 32 Gigs or RAM running W2K3 with the /PAE option in the Boot.ini. In Task Manager under Physical Memory it says: Total: 33,553,060 Available: 15,000,000 (about) This tells me that I should be using about 18.5 Gigs When i go into Processes and select "show processes from all users" I can only add up a couple Gigs worth of memory being used. How do I account for the other memory that's being used but not showing up in the processes?

Best Backup Software?
by Guest supersonic_oasis- 1 reply

Hi All, I was just wondering what were some of the better backup software programs out there to backup servers. I have an Exchange server that I am having trouble backing up and I'm pretty sure it is because the software I'm using (Yosemite) is no good. What are the best ones? I head Backup Exec is good, but I believe Veritas is about to get sold to someone else again. Let me know, thanks.

Print jobs remain in the queue after printing
by Guest Gus- 3 replies

I have Server 2003 and I am seeing all print jobs originated at the server remaining in the print queue after printing. .. Print jobs originating from the server remain in the printer queue after printing regardless of which printer I use. The status of the jobs shows "Sent to printer". Each time the server is restarted these queued jobs all reprint. As a test I shared the printer using the print server port and sent a test page from my workstation. It also remained in the queue after printing. Can anyone shed any light on what is going on?

I have a 2003 server with all updates, AD, DNS and DHCP running. I created 3 scopes in dhcp that are 192.168.1.0, 2.0 and 3.0. I am using 1 nic with 3 linksys routers. I am able to ping any of the linksys routers and any of the workstations. The linksys routers all get a dhcp address on the internet side, but the workstations (xp pro) cannot find the server. All computers can get on the net, some need to be IP set. server 192.168.2.225 DGateway 192.168.2.1 192.168.2.1 local router "1" hosts internet w/ nat router "2" 192.168.2.101 intenet side (dhcp) 192.168.1.1 local router "3" 192.168.2.102 internet side (dhcp) 192.168.3.1 local Only the serve…

Server Upgrade
by Guest KenM- 8 replies

I'm replacing a Dell poweredge sc420 that I have used for a server for the past year and a half. I don't have a lot of experience with servers, the SC420 was my first attempt at running SBS2003. I want to make sure that I'm purchasing something that will give me much better performance as well as reliability. My old machine has 2 80gb sata drives on a raid 1. Here is a description of the new machine. It's a poweredge 2900 with a Quad Core Xeon Processor E53352x4MB Cache, 2.0GHz, 1333MHz FSB, I chose 4GB 667MHz (4X1GB), Dual Ranked Fully Buffered DIMMs vs 8x512. I don't know if I was better off with the single ranked 512 or the dual ranked 1gb. I ch…

User profiles appearing on file server.
by Guest Graham- 2 replies

A file server has minimal- user profiles appearing in its "Documents and Settings". I have tried researching this but cannot see why it is occuring. This also happened on the same server before I rebuilt (and not upgraded) it as W2K3Standard with the same NetBIOS name (though different SID presumeably). Anyone got any ideas why this would be happening?

MS DHCP ( IP-HELPER) and Superscope

Hi All, I am in trouble due to DHCP Superscope. I am planing to using the 6 VLANS for our new network and cat 4500 as a Layer 3 switch Our VLAN routing will be done by L3 switch and on the Vlan i mentions the Ip-Helper address. I set up the test scenerio to simulate our new scenerio. now i am coming to my problem When i use superscope , DHCP diserver did not give the appropriate VLAN Ip address to the clients ( Although i mentioned the Ip-Helper address in Switch). for example pcs on vlan3 get the ip address from Vlan 4 and hence cannot communicate with any one. If i removed the Superscope then may be problem resolved as i read from many posts. C…

Problem with offline files in Vista and OpportunisticLocking
by Guest Matt Colliver- 0 replies
For those who have not come across this – any (Windows) SBS 2003 server where opportunistic locking is disabled will prevent Vista from syncing offline files. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/296264/en-us for more info. Windows XP pro etc will however work fine. The problem is that if you need to disable Opportunistic locking – and there are quite valid reasons for doing this, then well, you can’t sell Vista if the client wants offline files. One workaround is to host the application requiring OppLock disabled on one server, and do the offline files from another server. But this is not the theory behind a “Small” business Server – i.e. Small business which can’t a…

hello all, i got a big problem, i get a 0x0000006F Session3_initialization_failed error on my server. the server was working fine till the DNS service stopt, after looking in logs i could`nt find anything so i rebooted the server. after reboot i got the error. after googeling i find a solution to fixmbr and chkdsk the harddrive in the recovery console from windows 2003 server setup, butt you have to enter a administrator password. i have enterd the password about 25 times and still it says it`s the wrong password. so is there a other way to get in to the recovery console or is there a better solution to fix this problem. regards reugebrink

upgrade to 2003
by Guest mtler- 1 reply

I need to upgrade Windows 2000 Standard SP4 to Windows 2003 R2 SP2 Enterprise. C: drive contains OS and it is size of 15GB. E: drive (960 GB) contains data - 15 million tiff images (5kb - 25kb). Is the fact that E: drive is so big and has high number of small files going to slow down the upgrade? I have a limited time frame (few hours) for the upgrade and I want to make sure that the upgrade completes within my time frame. What potentially might be other factors that may slow down the upgrade process? Thank you.

Slow File Access on Windows Server 2000 Network
by Guest metahugh@yahoo.com- 2 replies

Hey everyone, I have a client that has two sites: Their main site and one remote site. The remote site is experiencing slow network performance opening files across the WAN connection. It's a Metro LAN setup utilizing Cisco 1800 series routers and Cisco 3400 ME Series Metro Ethernet switches. The ISP is telling me that part of the problem is there are no WINS servers configured on the DHCP scope installed on the 1800 router at the remote site. I can't see how not configuring a WINS server would cause this problem; name resolution performs properly through DNS. Any possibility that they are correct? Thanks, Hugh

Sorry, but I am supposted to just fix it... This is a single domain server (Win 2003 Server) with file shareing. The logon id being used is Domain admin. Direct Server (host name) is not available. I have tried to search, but desktop issues with Remote Desktop Connections (which this is NOT) are about the only thing that show up. Assumed activities. Installed software for wireless connection (forced as it did not support this OS) After install the system continued to reboot. Rebooted to last known good configuration. Know actvities. Reboots stopped, but the desktop appears on logon then disappears. I am left with only C…

Frontpage publishing / FTP
by Guest Lisa- 0 replies

Last year I published a file that allowed the user of the site to enter information and then submit, then a confirmation was displayed letting them know it was received and exactly what they had typed. We are on a new server now and our website changed from .com to .net. Frontpage extension were installed on the new server. I have been using FTP instead of publishing since last year and now when I need to re-publish the confirmation page (I'm not knowledgeable to understand why this page must be published and not ftp) it will not allow me to go beyond the username and password though I know that they are correct. I'm sure it's a easy fix but I'm very c…
