DC and DNS
by Guest Eric- 6 replies

I am creating a simulated Domain (non-production) in VMS and I need to know since this is the first. Does the DC and DNS need to run on the same server, because I create a serperate VM as a stand alone DNS Server? Because, during the installation of the DC in the diagnostic phase it needs the DNS avaible. But, It say's I can continue, but do manual configuration to complete it successfully. I really don't want to configure it manually and I rather the Wizard do it all, but I am not sure if this is the normal and sercure way to install the DC with the DNS. -- Eric Miller

Windows Mail Enable within Plesk
by Guest Flip- 0 replies

Hello all, I have a windows virtual dedicated server hosted at Godaddy with Plesk 8.1.1. I understand that with the assisted plan with Godaddy, they install Mail Enable which provides various features from the Plesk control panel to set up web access. We have installed mail enable on our server, but Plesk still does not provide that option as an active feature. Navigation within Plesk Client (Clients --> [Client Name] --> [Domain] --> Mail --> Mail Preferences) The Webmail check box is grayed out and says "Component was not installed" (See screen shot here --> http://picasaweb.google.com/fliplewis/General/photo#5157996514157208274). …

HELP: IIS Problems installing 3rd party web application (ER MAPPER
by Guest softengine- 1 reply

My team is experiencing a problem installing a 3rd party web application on our Windows 2003 Server (ER MAPPER). The installation just fails towards the end of the install without any errors, logs, or messages in the Event Viewer. The vendor has been no help either. I suspect this is being caused by some lame security policy or patch that's preventing the setup program from finishing. The setup program is able to copy some files to the inetpub and program files directory but seems to fail when it needs to setup vitrual directories on the website. Anyone have a strategy for troubleshooting? Is there another logging mechanism I can use. The setup …

I have a SBS2003 and I am using the SBS backup. I need the backup results to be viewed from a workstation. The user who will view the backup is not a domain admin and will not be a domain admin. I created a shortcut "http://sbs2003dc/backup/default.htm" on the desktop which works for admins but when a standard user tries I get the message, "You do not have the correct permissions to view this page. For more information contact your system administrator. To view this page, you must be a member of the Domain Admins security group.". I have tried to adjust the permissions on various folders but I cant get it to work. Does anyone know how to make this wo…

Servers need to be rebooted to get Video/keyboard
by Guest Andy- 3 replies

Has anyone ever ran into an issue where if you boot up a Windows 2003 server without a keyboard/monitor attached you must reboot that server after attaching a keyboard/monitor before you can use the recently attached keyboard/monitor? It is like something is not being loaded unless you attach the keyboard/monitor. Does anyone know a way we can force it to load these components? Our linux machines always respond no matter what the status of the PS/2 or VGA port is. thanks, Andy

Win2K3 SP1 A server has a name of \\mycompanynameserver\ but an application needs to have a server name of 8-characters or less. How can I map \\mycompanynameserver\ to, say, \\mycosvr\? The application then needs to map, say drive T, to \\mycosvr\data\data\apps\ in an *.INI file. Thanks!

PushPrinterConnection.exe

We've been pushing out printers using PushPrinterConnection.exe for over a year now and never had any problem. The past 2 weeks, users are calling because printers aren't mapping. When I look at ppcMachine.log I see: .. . . Found Deployed Printer Connection setting \\servername\printername .. . . There are no connections to remove. .. . . Deploying per machine connection \\servername\printername then seeming that same day, because no time stamp is recorded . . .. . . Connection \\servername\printername will be removed .. . . Removing per machine connection \\servername\printername Why does it think it has to remove the printers? tia, RandyH

Service login account password becomes corrupted
by Guest axeman41- 0 replies

We have several services set to login/start using a specific domain administrator account. The service will start fine upon reboot or manual restart of the service. However, after a random period of time the event log fills with an error: 7038 logon failure: unkown user or bad password. When we retype the same password, and nothing else is changed, the service starts up fine. It seems that the password or authentication process is becoming corrupt.

Does anyone know if the setting you set within a word doc regarding which tray it should print from etc, wold be lost due to the printer it was set to being removed from the network? I recently did a server migration and had to recreate all printers and recreate them on the new server and i'm just trying to find out if that was the cause of the loss of settings. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!. JT

Problems to add PCs to domain
by Guest Walter P.- 14 replies

Hi all, I have a Win 2003 Server, with about 50 PCs (XP Pro SP2) into the domain. My problem is when I try to add a couple of PCs to the domain. I normally add them thru My Computer - Computer Name - Change - Member Of... reboot. There, there is no problem, but when a user logs in, with his domain user, you can see that the GPOs are not applied, and that the PC cannot "see" the domain (for instance, to assign rights to domain users) Nevertheless, the PC appears in the Computers OU and its full name includes the domain... I have tried to re-add the PC several times, deleting the PC account from the AD, but it is the same. Any ideas? Thanks! W.

Daylight savings issue

Hello, folks. I've been researching on a script to enable the daylight savings configuration and synchronize the system time of all machines in the domain with one of the DCs (PDC emulator). The .vbs script worked fine on all tests and we finally decided to apply it through a GPO to the domain. First we manually did all the servers and double checked whether the summer times were all correct. Then we applied the GPO. It did enable the daylight option on the stations and also updated the time. Thats when the problems begun. We are normally GMT -3. With daylight savings, we turn to GMT -2. Thing is, the machines can only get GMT -3 from the serv…
