Networked shared printer becoming "unshared" daily?
by Guest Rob Gordon- 3 replies
Here's an odd one. I have a Windows 2003 R2 server acting as a corporate print server. We have three networked printers feeding off it, and all three printers are the exact same make/model and they all use the same driver. All three printers are also on the same subnet as the print server. At least once a day, ONE of these three printers becomes "unshared" and I have to manually reshare it so end users can spool to it. It's always the same printer so that's where my troubleshooting has been targeting. Any ideas why a single device would be getting knocked off the shared print server? If it was network connectivity, wouldn't that simply cause …

Print server issue
by Guest UselessUser- 1 reply
Hi sorry for posting lots of questions... This one is going to sound left field... We have a print server set up with 150 printers attached to it... Currently if any one single printer jams up (ie wont delete a job etc) I have to stop and restart the entire print server for everyone... Needless to say when this occurs it is causing me a lot of grief... Is there anyway that you can instantiate a print spooler service per printer (So that if you have to restart it, it affects on that printer)??

Richard Mueller - Auditing group membership??
by Guest UselessUser- 0 replies
Hi all, I recent posted a question which Richard Mueller helped with so I am posting my next question that follows on in attempt to get some more help... I currently have a need to enumerate various groups for reporting/security/auditing purposes and basically populate Excel spreadsheets with the details. For example recently I had to find out which users with mailboxes had allow dial in access on their accounts for which I did the following: dsquery -filter "(&(objectCategory=user)(msExchHomeServerName=*)(userAccountControl:1.2.840.113556.1.4.803:=2))" > c:\result.txt Which I then imported into Excel... Is there any other/better way of d…

Hi all, I am having trouble using the Find users section on ADUC... If I go to advanced for example, and put in the field... User -> Member Of Condition -> Is exactly Value -> Group Name I get no results back?? I have had other examples of this... like trying to find who has a certain SMTP address on their account which has not worked either? Any ideas? Also just a quick query to see if anyone can point me to some good free documentation about SQL server (MSDE and full) and also what are the differences (Besides cost?!)

Fix a Slow Computer - There's No Need to Endure Such Computer Pain
by Guest jeremiah wright- 1 reply

Is your computer slow? Do you have problems with it freezing up completely? Do you sometimes get the dreaded "Blue Screen of Death"? That one can be especially troubling, as I'm sure you can attest to if you've ever had the misfortune of witnessing it. Thankfully, with the advent of Windows XP, and now Windows Vista, computer problems such as slow computers and crashing computers have been reduced dramatically. However, for many computer users they are still an expensive and vexing problem. Do want to fix a slow computer? If these computer crashes happen to you on a regular basis you know how frustrating they ca be. In addition they can cost you vital time and m…

IIS problems with 3rd Party Web App Setup (ER Mapper) on Windows 2
by Guest softengine- 0 replies
My team is experiencing a problem installing a 3rd party web application on our Windows 2003 Server (ER MAPPER). The installation just fails towards the end of the install without any errors, logs, or messages in the Event Viewer. The vendor has been no help either. I suspect this is being caused by some lame security policy or patch that's preventing the setup program from finishing. The setup program is able to copy some files to the inetpub and program files directory but seems to fail when it needs to setup vitrual directories on the website. Anyone have a strategy for troubleshooting? Is there another logging mechanism I can use. The setup …

Dual Port SATA Cards
by Guest Will- 0 replies
Has anyone found a SATA JBOD adapter with two or more *external* ESATA ports that works well with Windows 2003 Server 64 bit? The few SATA cards I have found online with two external SATA ports have been blue screening Windows. The single port versions of the same card work very well with Windows, so apparently dual port is a trickier product to write drivers for, and I need the benefit of someone with a positive product experience. All recommendations are appreciated. -- Will

sell domain name "yonata.com"

Dear Sir/Madam$B!$(B We are an IT company who own the above domain name. We think your company may be interested to use this domain name for promotion of your own brand $B!H(BYONATA$B!I(B. We understand that you are using obleasyonata.com for your website, but it would be more desirable to use YONATA.COM Studies show that there are many advantages using this shorter and more direct domain name: 1. $B!H(BYONATA$B!I(B itself is the brand name of your products. There will be direct connection between the website and your brand name. Successful examples are http://www.ibm.com, http://www.bmw.com, http://www.sony.com, etc. 2. Easy to memorize the…

Hi All, I manage a Microsoft SBS 2003 server. I swapped out routers and since then when I attempt to connect to the server via Remote Desktop Connection, I can sign in, however, the connection will hang, it will start to paint the server desktop and then just stop. I click 'x' on the connection, it will exit out with no problem. All of the ports I normally open for Remote Desktop are open like 3389, 4125, etc. Any help would be appreciated, thanks! Hopefully this is the right group! Jaison

?? Newbie Book Recommendations, Two Simple Questions ??
by Guest Tom Baxter- 1 reply

Hello all, I was hoping to get some recommendations on very good Server 2003 beginner books (or online resources). I'm hoping to find material that is especially strong in explaining Accounts, Permissions and Policy Settings, from a BEGINNER'S perspective. I'm banging my head against the wall trying to understand these concepts. I would also like to ask a couple newbie questions, if you don't mind. I am using Server 2008, RC1. In "Computer Management | Local Users and Groups | Users" I see the local user accounts, Administrator and Guest. I know there are several additional built in accounts that Windows creates as well: NT AUTHORITY\LocalService, …

Startup Troubleshooting
by Guest Benedikte- 0 replies

My copy of Server 2003 will not boot this morning. It may have downloaded an update yesterday that is causing the problem as it does that automatically. On Tuesday I had a corrupt system32/config/system file which I replaced using System Recovery and the system started. Now, it will not go through the entire boot process, last known good copy does nothing, and even in Safe Mode, I get to the Windows Starting screen (and once to the login screen) but then the system automatically reboots. Since it continuously reboots, I don't know how to get anywhere to even start finding out what is wrong. Any ideas or thoughts(since I am IT in name ONLY), would be w…

VSS not working correctly on 2003?
by Guest Jerome- 10 replies
Hi, I've enabled the Volume Shadow Copy Service on my Windows 2003 servers and I've scheduled them to make copies every day but they don't do them!? If I click on previous versions I only get the first day I've installed the VSS as an option to restore from (and yes, this file has changed a few times over the last days!). On the other hand if I MANUALLY click 'create now' in the Shadow Copies panel on my server then it makes a shadow copy and this is also reflected in the 'previous versions' on my client PCs. Any ideas why it's not making the copies according to the schedule?? Any help is appreciated, thanks a lot! Jerome
