Window cannot acess the specified device, path, or file. You may not have approtriate permissions to access. Server in a workgroup. User added to Administrator group. Try to double click on a .exe file and get the above error. The Administrator login works fine, it's just the additional users added to the Administrators group that cannot run the .exe files. Any Suggestions?

Error "adprep.exe is not a valid win32 application"...

Hi all, I'm upgrading a Windows Server 2000 DC based network to Windows Server 2003 R2 64 bits. One of the first steps is to prepare the existing Active Directory to contain W2K3 DCs. It is done by adprep /forestprep. I downloaded the ISO images for W2K3 64 bits installation CDs. The first problem is the adprep.exe utility does not is available at \i386 folder of the CD as the documentation says. I found it only at \AMD64 folder. But when running it I get the error "adprep.exe is not a valid win32 application". I suppouse the W2K3 64 bit installation media only comes with the 64 bit version of the adprep utility. It sounds consistent but this utility i…

Fax permissions not allowing users to see what they should?
by Guest Darryl- 3 replies

Hello, I have a Windows 2003 SBS Server, with the Fax Console being used on 10 workstations. Last week, we had an issue in which the Fax system sort-of stopped working (would not automatically answer the fax line). After reinstalling the fax system, everything worked fine. But I have one huge problem. Now, all the non-admins cannot see all items in the inbox/sent items. I have made everyone Fax Operators, and even confirmed the Fax Operators security group has appropriate permissions on the Fax share, but I still cannot seem to get this fixed. If anyone has a suggestion, it would be greatly appreciated. The moment I make an individual Domain…

Sharing and syncing files

All users on our network have their homefolders directed to the 'H' drive on the server. I have two users, one the manager, the other his PA both using Vista. They need to be able to see/update each other's Documents that also need to be available offline and synchronise when back on the network. On the server, all other users have a folder with their username in the Homefolders folder. These two are shown just as Documents. When the manager updates his home folder, his PA does not always see the file on her computer (she has a mapped drive to his home folder with full control). Am I missing something here? If I map a drive to a user's folder, I expec…

Inplace server 2003 upgrade on 2 domain controllers
by Guest Eddie- 0 replies

Hello, I am planning to upgrade 2 DC's running 2000 standard to 2003 standard r2. These servers are the PDC and BDC of the domain and the only servers still running windows 2000 left in the domain. I've been running in mixed mode for a couple of years and have upgraded all other servers except for the 2 DC's. What would be the best approach to upgrade these servers? Also, these servers are running SQL 2000 will this upgrade impact SQL in anyway? Thanks, Eddie

User Profile Template
by Guest JohnB- 2 replies

I posted this once before and never got any replies, so I'm trying it again, hoping it was just a slow day back then ;-) Has anyone tried to setup a user profile template? If yes, did the wallpaper that you used when creating the template show up with subsequent profiles that were set to use the profile template? I've tried this twice, and both times it does not. TIA

Change SBS to Windows Server
by Guest BDZ- 4 replies

I purchased a new server with Windows Server 2003 on it. I currently have a server with "Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server" on it. I am trying to determine if it is possible (or even advisable) to change my current one to a plain Server version. We do not use Exchange. We want to start using Terminal Services. I think it may be best to have Terminal Services on the current box rather than the new one. If it possible, can anyone guide me as to how to accomplish it? Thank you for any help/guidance you may provide. BDZ

I'm running win2k3. Two to three times a day the print service stops and I have to manually reset it. The event log only says that the service has stopped and must be restarted. I can't see what's causing it. Thanks for any help...

Hello, I am having trouble with Backup Exec 11 d and I am wondering if the problem is on my domain controllers instead of with Backup Exec. Here's what's happening: The Backup Exec 11d "restore job properties" window is displaying multiple copies of the same SS backup for domain controllers. For example, I made one system state backup of a domain controller at 11:02 on 4/17/08. When I view the "restore job properties" window, I see three copies listed, for the same backup at the same time. If I select any one of them, all three copies become selected. Could the problem be caused by an issue on the domain controllers, rather than a problem with Backup…

I need to deny 'Domain Users' from logging in.

ok, I have to admit, I'm no expert. But here is what I'm trying to do. I have a 2003 solitary domain. It has a bunch of users. ok, so far so good. Well I now have new XPe machines to add to this domain. the users of the XPe machines are a different class of user than the existing users. I want XPe users to log only into those machines, and the existing Domain Users to not be able to long into the new machines at all. so here is what i thought would work. i created a new OU. Linked a new GPO to it. inside the OU i have the new XPe test units active directory computer and a test user to log into this machine. both the computer and user are me…

Cannot Manage Certificate Services
by Guest jfh777- 0 replies

Hello, I have an online subordinate CA. I requested a certificate from a new Citrix web interface server, and found that my CA is misbehaving. It appears to receive the request and issue a certificate, but it is not really working. On the CA itself, when I launch the management interface, the CA has a yellow warning sign and says " Warning - This CA is currently offline or unavailable". When the CA is double-clicked, this message appears: "Cannot manage certificate services. The network path was not found. 0x80070035 (WIN32: 53)" I read where the file and print sharing option has to be checked in Networking, under the IP settings. That was al…

How to get the publishing point from Authorization plugin?
by Guest Helen- 1 reply

Hello there, I am trying to implement an authorization plugin in Windows Server 2008 by implementing interface IWMSEventAuthorizationPlugin (of course IWMSBasicPlugin too). I need to get the information, say the name, of the corresponding publishing point in function AuthorizeEvent. The snippet of my code (C#) is: public void AuthorizeEvent(ref WMS_EVENT pEvent, IWMSContext pUserCtx, IWMSContext pPresentationCtx, IWMSCommandContext pCommandCtx, IWMSEventAuthorizationCallback pCallback, object Context) { …
