PROXY SETTINGS PER MACHINE rather than User
by Guest Avil- 1 reply

I have a Windows 2000 domain and all the client PC's are accessing internet thru a valid proxy which was configured thru group policy. On a particular pc I want to put a dummy proxy so that whoever login into this pc does not have internet access. How do I do this? I tried the following 2 links which does not work. http://windowsitpro.com/article/articleid/85089/jsi-tip-10097-how-do-i-override-the-users-proxy-entries-on-a-specific-computer.html http://centraal.uk.knowledgebox.com/kbase/idx/0/045/article/

Strange error message
by Guest TJ- 4 replies

Hi I have noticed that I there is a user in Documents and Settings on my DC that is no longer with the company. I tried to delete the folder but some files were in use - ntuser.dat.LOG and NTUSER.dat. I tried opening ntuser.dat.LOG and got the following error. 'Unable to open the file C:\Documents and Settings\joanm\ntuser.dat.LOG Cannot open file "C:\Documents and Settings\joanm\ntuser.dat.LOG". The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process' There is a button at the bottom that has a red cross and the word Bummer. I don't think this is a Microsoft message and the icons look as if they come from Borland Delphi. …

Kerberos error event ID:4
by Guest Adam Raff- 6 replies

Good Day, We have a computer Windows XP SP2 that I just put onto our network which replaces an older computer. The old computer name was flexprintserver and the new computer is called hpprintcut. I created hpprintcut about three weeks ago and added it to domain (Windows 2003 SP1). Yesterday I replaced the systems, turned off the old system removed it from the network and then put the new one in the same location and turned it on. I have not seen any errors in the new computers event logs but noticed the following errors on our servers which are both DC's. Since the other computer is not even plugged in I am confused on what it's saying as these tw…

Hello, Occassionally I'll find a file that I can't delete even from the server console - even after I've rebooted and no one else is on the server. They aren't dll's or executables or anything being used - sometimes they are pictures, sometimes sounds - but I can't delete them. This is on a Win2k3 Server R2 SP2 Thanks

Primary Domain Controller
by Guest Calvin- 2 replies

Hello, Do Windows Server 2003 still have the concept of Primary Domain Controller (PDC) and Backup Domain Controller (BDC)? If I shutoff the PDC, do I need to promote the BDC to a PDC? I would like to reinstall my PDC, but not sure what to do to let the BDC pickup all the roles of the PDC. Thanks

NTFS on SAN
by Guest dcastelino- 4 replies

I know NTFS is not a Cluster File System. But this is what we are trying to acheive by implementing NTFS on SAN: We have 2TB of NTFS Partition on SAN.We also have VMware Server running on Windows Server 2003.VMware has capabilties to create linked-clones (delta disks). Our objective is to have the base disk (say 60 GB) on NTFS on SAN and create linked-clones (delta disks) on local storage on the server. Here is the question: Can we make NTFS Partition Read-only on SAN.We do not want anyone to make changes to that base disk on NTFS on SAN.Is there any way or any other technology other than MIcrosoft Cluster Services to help make this happen. Because …

Brooktrout Shared Fax
by Guest Brandon Molletti- 0 replies

I purchased a brooktrout 2 port analog board (TR1034+P2-2L-R MSF). It is supposed to be the best. However, I am having trouble sending faxes with v.34 enabled on the board. I get "Fax transmission Error" every time after the first page. With v.34 disabled, the same fax goes through without error. Dialogic (brooktrout support) has sent me a new card, no different. Dialogic claims that this is a software problem with Microsoft. They claim MSF doesnt support v.34. I think they are full of crap. At&t says there is nothing wrong with the phone lines. I can send a fax to the same server with v.34 enabled without error. (This seems to prove dialogic wrong)…

Robocopy and the /Z and /B flag
by Guest rwvoss- 3 replies

I was wondering if anyone could better explain the /Z and /B flags and how they work exactly? I understand that they help robocopy restart where it left off in case of a networking issue, but I guess I'm looking to see if it is causing the issue I am seeing. I am robocopying file shares from one server to another. While doing these copies, I always use the /ZB flag. I have had issues from time to time that require that I get folders copied over before robocopy gets to them. So, I will start a second robocopy that copies the files that the first hasn't got to yet. However, I have seen that once the first robocopy does get there, it copies the files again li…
