-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -=. why the security services? -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= You may ask, why do. I think the "they" referred to are the security services? Is there any evidence that there is. a single source, as opposed to a loosely based "whispering campaign" amongst many people? Even. if there is a single source, is there. any evidence that "they" are professional "buggers" as opposed to amateurs, or perhaps people. working for a privately funded. organization? a) As to the question of a single source. versus something more fragmented; it is quite obvious that there is a single source from the way the. campaign has been carried out…

I have a Windows 2003 R2 x64 (all current SPs and updates installed) and 3 Windows Vista machines (also al X64 versions). When trying to copy a (large - maybe 50MB +) file from the Windows 2003 Server to the Vista Machines (the Server Shared folder is mapped to a drive in Vista) - I will get an error like "There is a problem access I:\bigfile.txt - make sure you are connected to the Network and try again" Once in a while I will see "Error 0x8007003A" I can copy those files just fine from Windows 2003 to another Windows 2003 machine or Windows XP machines... The Windows Server 2003 install is a fresh install on a new hardware; the Vista machines were able to c…

Hello, I am having problem with my Windows Storage Server 2003 R2. Currently there is one id (user A) that is logged in at the server console. The account has locked the console and I am unable to unlock it because when I press Ctrl - Alt - Del and nothing happens at the login screen. The weird thing is the mouse is moving and I am able to press the NumLock key without any problem. To logoff user A, I remote desktop to the server and tried logging off user A using tsadmin. However I encounter error "Session (id 0) reset failed (error 31 - a device attached to the system is not functioning)". I tried to reset user A using Reset command also and that doesn…

Slow printing Windows Server 2003
by Guest getfuzed@gmail.com- 4 replies
Server: Windows Server 2003 R2 Workstations: Windows XP Pro SP2 The server is set up as a print server and for file sharing. Two printers are shared, one is an old HP600 DesignJet, the other is an HP CP1700. The HP600 responds normally. The CP1700 is very slow to respond. Opening up the properties window and/or printing (very small files) can take between 8-12 seconds. I don't know if this matters, but most of our printing is done through AutoCAD 2004 and 2007. Thanks

I have a small network running 2k3 with 4 machines for a while. I have not changed any DNS or IP settings. All of a sudden the server can't see any computers and vice versa. All the computers can ping each other with both name and IP and internet is running on all. I have checked all the connections and even turned the router off and restarted. What could be the problem?

Custom Default User Profile
by Guest Rick- 5 replies
I've created a custom default user profile as described in KB # 325364. It works well except... EVERYONE gets the same "My Documents" name -- that of the local user account I created (i.e., "Joe Blow" was the user so now every new user that gets this "custom default user profile" has a "Joe Blows Documents" folder under their user account name). I'm not able to rename these to the actual user's name. Any ideas? Note that I am NOT running AD. Would that "fix" things or is this an issue that's beyond that? Thanks, Rick -- Thank you for taking the time to respond to my questions.

Fast User Swithing workaround in Windows 2003?
by Guest rumbum- 6 replies

Hello, I have read that XP feature of Fast User Switching is not available on Windows 2003 Enterprise. Is there any workaround for this, or 3rd party software that would provide similar functionality of Fast User Switching on Windows 2003 machines? I would greatly appreciate your opinions, especially from users who "patched" somehow this limitation in Windows 2003 or made up another soulution to provide similar functionality on 2003 machines. Thank you, rumbum

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -= my response to the. harassment -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- My first reaction in 1990/91 was to assume that if I broke contact. then they would not be able to follow. and would lose interest. So I did the things that have. been suggested by other people; I sold my television, stopped listening to the radio and tried. to withdraw away from the sources of abuse as much as possible. I reasoned. that they must have more important things to deal with and that normal people would simply leave. me alone if it were made difficult for them to continue their. harassment. I reckoned without the sheer vindictiveness. of t…

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -= who knows about. it? =- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Many. people know, both in the establishment and media, and among the general public. Despite an absence. of its target from the UK for more than two years, the echoes. of paranoia can still be heard loud and clear from across the water. When. it started in 1990, the only people who knew were those in BBC. television who were spying on my home, and a few radio broadcasters. There were a few cases. of public harassment, but very little compared to the. situation that developed a couple of years later. The list today includes BBC. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-= -= Capital Radio - Chris. Tarrant -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-= Capital Radio DJs have been "in on it" from the start. One. of the first things I heard in the summer of 1990 was from a Capital DJ. who said, "If he listens to Capital then. he can't be all bad" (supportive, you see. We're not bastards). Much of what came over the radio in 1990 is now so far. away the. precise details have been obliterated by time. No diary was kept of the details,. and although archives if they exist may give pointers, the ambiguity of what broadcasters said would leave. that open to re-interpretation. My first reaction was disbelief; nothing of the sort had ever happened before, the idea that such. a thing could occur had not crossed my mind, yet there was. no doubt of what had just taken place. My disbelief eroded as this recurred time after time.. Besides the news, offenders included shows such as Crimewatch (!),. Newsnight, and "entertainment" shows. There seems to.…

Changing DC hardware

I want to upgrade the hardware I'm using for a domain controller in a small network. The new computer I'll be using has a sata hard drive. While the existing DC has a IDE hard drive. I don't want to have to reinstall active directory, or restore system state as I have tried restoring system sate on a different computer before and of cause there are problems with device drivers and such. What I wanted to do was to put the sata drive and the IDE drive in a third computer and copy the complete disk from the IDE drive to the sata drive then put the sata drive in the new computer and boot it up. I'm not really a hardware man would this work? Any one …

adding RAID driver to EBCD to recover 2k3 box
by Guest nahmus- 7 replies

Has anyone added a scsi driver to the EBCD iso and then used it successfully? I was not paying attention and got myself into some trouble. I was moving a 2k3 server box from one domain to another. I removed it from the domain and put in into the workgroup "workgroup" and then I was going to login and then join it to the new domain. My mistake was not verifying what the local machine admin password was. Now I cannot login to the server to continue the move. EBCD does not recognize the card (DEll Perc4 c RAID) when it does the search. I've downloaded the driver from Dell and i have the sys files. I've read the EBCD documentation and I followed the dorecti…

Server 2003 reinstallation
by Guest Joe Auerbach- 2 replies

I have a small 1-server W2k3 domain for a volunteer group that I work with. The original W2k3 CD has been misplaced, and the server has gotten corrupted to the point that it doesn't see itself as a W2k3 machine (when trying to run ADUC, for example, it responds that it can't run on a W2k machine). I can get a W2k3 CD to do a re-install, but I don't have the original authorization code. Is there anyplace in the registry that I can find this, so that I can use the same one to reinstall ? Thanx for any forthcoming help Joe Auerbach Flatlands Volunteer Ambulance Corps

Hi, I am not sure if this is the proper place to post this question. I am not a Network Admin but need some help in that area. We recently hired a new Net Admin who wanted to completely rebuild our network from scratch. We are a medium sized company and have a good sized network making that a completely unjustifiable expense and most likely completely unnecessary. We upgrade whenver necessary. Since then every so often this Net Admin says that he believes that one of the servers on the network is in serious trouble and it needs to be rebuilt. And then two weeks later it blows. We never experienced issues like this...certainly not as frequently until this ind…

MI5 are Afraid. to Admit They're Behind the Persecution MI5 have issued a formal denial. of any involvement in my life to the Security Service Tribunal,. as you might expect them to; but, more importantly, the persecutors have. never denied that theyre from the Security Service, despite several years of accusations from my. corner on usenet and in faxed articles. I am not. surprised that the Security Service Tribunal found "no determination in your favour". I am however a. little surprised. that the persecutors have refused to confirm my identification of them; by doing so, they implicitly. admit that my guess was right. Service startup order

I've got a bit of a headache. Im trying to control the startup order of a few services, but I cant get to actually work. Platform, Windows 2003 SP2 R2 I started with using the "dependency" method, but adding the "DependOnService" for the services in question. The service "lanmanserver" (shares) depends on a SAN-disk and it's service, "Z-SANService". So I added the key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver] "DependOnService"=hex(7):5a,00,2d,00,53,00,41,00,4e,00,53,00,65,00,72,00,76,00,\ 69,00,63,00,65,00,00,00,4e,00,6c,00,61,00,00,00,00,00 No joy - the shares are not created in timely manner enough after the volumes are av…
