Does Windows Server 2003 R2 Natively Support the Subject Alternate Name (SAN) Certificate extensions or do you still need to add the command line to enable those like in Windows Server 2003? Thank you! - Mike

Dynamic DNS, DNS Resource Records & Scavenging
by Guest David- 0 replies

Hello Peeps, We have an issue whereby we want external clients to register there VPN IP addresses in DNS. The VPN connections are handled by a RAS server which gets the IP addresses from DHCP. There are two DHCP Servers; DC01 DHCP,DNS, Domain Controller Server01 DHCP,DNS, Domain Controller Server02 RAS Both the servers are set to update A and PTR records for clients. In DNS however this doesn't seem to be the case. I then added DC01 to the DNSUpdateProxy and when i did this i saw my test laptop register its ip in dns. I then disconnected and reconnected and got a different IP address. the ip address i got then was one which was alre…

Workstation loses default printer
by Guest Edward- 0 replies

Our environment: 200 users, 50 printers (I know that ratio is ridiculous but I am stuck with it) I am using Server 2003 R2's Print Manager and I am pushing printers to users in security groups through the console and pushing the "pushprinterconnections.exe" file as a logon policy in a GPO. All of that works wonderfully. All users are XP Pro with SP2 and are updated weekly through WSUS Problem: Users get a random error when they go to print to their default printer: "Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup." This will be to a printer that they successfully printed to before. If they click print again they can usually print…

I have a domain, with a PDC emulator, and a BDC. The PDC gets time from an external source, and the BDC gets its time from the PDC. Then BDC is then the server for all of the member servers and clients on the network. One of the member servers w32time service is reporting an even ID 38: Event Type: Information Event Source: W32Time Event Category: None Event ID: 38 Date: 04-16-2008 Time: 11:52:42 User: N/A Computer: TITAN Description: The time provider NtpClient cannot reach or is currently receiving invalid time data from dc02.domain.lan (ntp.d|172.18.1.15:123->172.18.1.5:123). DCOM and WMI remote permission denied
by Guest fixitchris- 3 replies

I have a problem where DCOM and WMI work fine locally , but they do not work remotely. this is on Server 2003 SP2. I feel like I've given permission from Everyone to Anonymous to every part of DCOM and WMI! WMIDIAG does not give any errors except that everyone has too many ACEs. I'm stumped this is the only error that I can find... and wireshark only responds with a nca_s_access_denied to spnego CreateRemoteInstance request packet. Event Type: Error Event Source: DCOM Event Category: None Event ID: 10027 Date: 2/28/2008 Time: 4:12:03 PM User: DOMAIN\fixitchris Computer: LIBRARY Description: The machine wide limit s…

Using group policies to restrict desktop aspects
by Guest CryptiniteDemon- 3 replies

Can anyone give me a step by step guide or link me to some place that will show me how to set up group policies properly? I want to make it to where 20 users have restricted desktop access when they log on. For the purpose of this, let's just say that the recycling bin won't be visible to these users. How would I go about doing this? I've tried a few things and I can't get it to work when I have those users log into the domain. Thanks

problem with Printer Server (Windows 2003 R2)
by Guest Fran Vázquez- 5 replies

Hi, we've just installed a new printer server (Windows 2003 R2 Stdandard English). We installed all the needed drivers, and added all the printers (TCPIP ports). Everything seems OK. Then we've told our users to add the printers by adding 'network printers' in their computers. Everuthing is fine excepting one thing: the user can apparently change the 'printer setttings', but when he clicks OK on his changed printer settings and print, we see that they are not saved. In fact if we just save the printer settings and re-openn it, we see that they are the same, the default ones. This shouldnt be the behaviour of this print server, users should be able…

Poor Performance Sharing iSCSI Attached Drive
by Guest SteveR- 0 replies

I have an Equallogic iSCSI SAN attached to a HP DL360 G5 Server via MS iSCSI initiator 2.06 and a Foundry FLS624 switch dedicated to the iSCSI traffic. When I copy data to/from the iSCSI attached SAN to the local C:\ drive on the server it performs very well. When I share the iSCSI attached SAN then do the same read/write test from a XP workstation on a GB network, I get great performance when writing to the share however when reading from the server is really slow. Looking at the network performance under task manager, I see 54% when writing and only 20% when reading. Test Server = HP DL360 G5 Test workstation is a Dell Precision 390 attached …
