Repair RAID5
by Guest Andrew- 0 replies

I have a Server 2003 which had 4 HDDs, 3 of which were in a software RAID5 (no RAID card) and 1 was unallocated spare. The first drive (disk 0) from the RAID 5 failed and had to be disconnected from the system. After disconnecting disk 0 and powering up the server, I would have expected to see (in Comp. Man.) that disk 0 was foreign (and missing), disk 1 & 2 were failed and disk 3 unallocated? Instead I have disk 0 foreign and missing, disk 1 failed and disk 2 unallocated. With a mystery missing disk! Does anyone have any hints on how to repair this? My first thought was to take the spare disk and connected it to the disk 0 position and see what …

A 2003 x64 server provides since last patch tuesday no net functionality anymore. Error: All services run No entries in the event log Ping to the server goes No RDP No "Net View" .... KB948496 patch has been installed. After uninstalling the patch everything was fine again. This patch probably at least for some x64 machines is not recommended. In my case this is a HP385 G2, AMD64

Folder Permissions Changed After Moving to a New Location
by Guest Jason- 2 replies

In the process of purging our file system, my boss recently took an ex-employee's folder and moved it into a subfolder of her protected folder. The folder was initially setup to inherit permissions from the top level of the shared drive and was open to everyone. The folder it was dragged into was created under a folder that is restricted to my boss and the administrator. Somehow, after it was dragged over, we were completely locked out of it. I remedied the problem by taking ownership and adding the correct permissions, but am wondering if anyone knows why this happened and how we can avoid it in the future?

by Guest NETCRAMMMER- 1 reply

I am receiving the following error when trying to extend a dynamic disk. (see attached error) The error reads: The selected volume was originally created on a basic disk and cannot be extended. Only volumes originally created on dynamic disks can be extended. I need to increase the size of 2 (F & G)partitions on this disk. I have 69GB of unallocated disk space at the end. I also have (on another disk ) over 130GB of unallocated drive space. How can I rezise these partitions? TIA!

NT Backup VSS Error
by Guest Michael- 0 replies

Hello, I have two backup scripts that I run throughout the week, one is a nightly and the other a weekly master. The weekly master had been running fine for months and months, but recently has been returning this error: Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy:0x80042306 The odd part is, the nightly script that runs on thr week days runs fine and does the same type of task as the weekly script but just backs up different drives and data. The script files are in .js format. I figure if there was a problem with VSS, then the nightly would not run correctly either. Any suggestions as to what I can try to correct this issue? -- Thank you!

Spanned disk extension failed
by Guest Matt Z.- 1 reply

I was attempting to extend a volume in Server 2003 and received a message that the process had failed. The disks I was attempting to add to the mix are now listed as part of the volume, but the total space has not changed in Disk Manager, but DiskPart shows the volume as having increased. The only error logged in the event viewer is Source: LDM, Event ID: 2, Description: (C000000D) I can't find any information on this type of error. Is it possible to remove the disks from the volume and try again?

don't know which raid to use
by Guest sharonag- 3 replies

Hi, I just got new server which I'm going to use for Microsoft Team Foundation Server. the first one is for the Application server and the Other is for the Data server. each server have 6 HD. I'm trying to figure which RAID to use on each server. I think that the Data server with the SQL is more obvious, I made Raid 1 from 2 HD for the system partition and raid 5 from 4 HD's for all the SQL data. I Don't know which array configuration I should do on the Application Server. In addition, is it possible to change the array configuration after the OS installation? thanks.

I'm not sure if this a server or an application issue.... here is the thing, I'm installing a aspx website on a W 2003 standard SP2, and for some reason, the session of the website is expiring automatically, is there any configuration that we can modify to fix this... or this is entirely a development problem... is there something where I can check this out? Please help

Folder Shares: question about security
by Guest Rob- 1 reply

Hello, When I share a folder, I see two tabs in the properties window: Sharing and Security. In the Sharing tab, there's the Permissions button that allows me to add users to access this shared folder, and then in the Security tab it allows me to do the same with more granular options. What is the difference between these two security models? If I were to simply grant a user in the same domain to access a shared folder, which of these two options should I use. On a side note, what if the user belongs to another (but trusted) domain, would it still be possible for that user to access the share? Thank you.

by Guest Meat- 2 replies

Hi, I installed R2 on some servers and I had issues with the activation of File Server Ressource Manager. On those servers I created registry keys that hold a RPC configuration and this registry key was wiped out by the activation of File Server Ressource Manager. Also, the activation of File Server Ressource Manager install Framework 2.0. I want to know where I can find informations about other Optionnal Components of R2 that could do some modifications like File Server Ressource Manager (Ex. : preliminary to activate an option, registry key that could be changed/deleted/added, etc.) Thank you.

does this number really matter?
by Guest tree leafs- 4 replies

Hi, this might be a silly question for most of you. When installing windows server OS, there is a licensing question, per server or per device/user. If I choose "per server", the default is "5" concurrent connections. Does this number really mean this? If this server is going to be a file server or exchange server do I have to enter a large enough numbmer to meet the concurrent connections requirement? Thanks,

One Certificate
by Guest Sajid- 0 replies

Dear All We are using BizTalk Server 2006 on Windows Server 2003 SP2 box. There are three dimensions to BizTalk (Receive, Send and Processing), on Send and Processing it can load balance automatically, if two BizTalk Servers are in the same group. But since we are talking to an external system that requires messages to be signed before they are sent, and they support only one certificate. Is there any way to install and use one certificate on two Windows 2003 Servers? If not what could be the best solution to our problem? Regards Sajid
