Disabling Group Policy all together
by Guest Jim in Cleveland- 2 replies

I know this sounds pretty drastic but is there a way of disabling all group policies with one click of the mouse?! I'm troubleshooting a problem and for the life of me and I cannot find the GP that is holding this setting that is affecting a user configuration. I thought if I could stop all the group policies all at once, there would be no guess work in it. I would disable a global setting, make the necessary changes I need to make, then turn everything back on. The change would be on an XP computer in a 2003 domain environment. The issue I'm working on is I need to make a desktop change on a user profile. I've opened up the profile (.man to a .dat) …

Hi, We have installed our client application on Windows server 2003 R2 SP2 product. The client application service stop due to unknown reasons. We receive errors for the event id 7031 (the application name service has terminated unexpectedly. This has done this x times. The following action will be taken), 1000 and 1004 (Faulting application x.exe, faulting version ....., faulting module) in the event log. I am unable to understand its actual cause and resolution? Is it only because of the client appliction (it is compatible with the product) or with the product? Please help me know. Thanks, Naaz.

Net Time problems. Daylight Savings etc
by Guest Salvador Manaois III- 2 replies

Hi, You may want to give the steps outlined here a spin: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;914387 Basically you need to create a .reg file and merge this with the registry of all your machines. You will then need to create a .vbs script to reload the TimeZoneInformation registry key. -- Salvador Manaois III MCSE MCSA CEH MCITP | Enterprise/Server Admin Bytes & Badz : http://badzmanaois.blogspot.com "NewsPig" wrote: > Hello, > My DC is 2000 SBS > Workstations are XP SP3 different ages and configurations > Client software requires users to have local admin rights (Uggh) > I am in Aus GM…

Hi, We are having a problem for our application which runs on Windows 2003 server and .Net Framework 2.0 SP1. Our program crashes randomly and when we look at the event log the error is "Fatal Execution Engine Error" We have reinstalled framework and we applied the hotfix (63) but it didn't solve the problem. Our program serves for disaster and it is very important and urgent for us. Is there a fix or a solution for this "fatal error"?

COM+ Event System hangs on startup
by Guest Paul Goldman- 1 reply

I installed 3 ShoreTel voicemail servers, each running Windows 2003 Server Appliance Edition. I upgraded each server to SP2, then installed the ShoreTel voicemail server code. Everything was working fine until we added the servers into the domain. I noticed that many of the automatic services no longer started. Assuming that there was a problem with some Group Policy, I dropped the server out of the domain and returned them to their original workgroup. The problem, though, persists. The first sign of a problem is the fact that the COM+ Event System does not start, but gets hung in the "Starting" mode. In the Event Log is the following message: "The COM+ Ev…

Low Sound Volume on my computer
by Guest Leo- 2 replies

I noticed that I have a rather low sound volume on my Dell Computer. I it was better than that in the past. I have to jack up the volume on the speakers to the highest levels to achieve normal sound level which leads to me hearing static and noise. That is true for web videos as well as sound files playback on my computer. I made sure all the volume sliders are at the Max on the Windows Volume Control box (including Wave). I checked the Control Panel- >Sound And Audio Devices Properties. Device volume and Speaker volumes are at High. Sound Playback is set to "SoundMAX Digial Audio" - the only other option is Model Line Playback. I have Dell Dimension 4…

Server2003: Replace SCSI Controller Question
by Guest SteveJHU- 1 reply

Hi, We have a 2003 Enterprise R2 SP2 installation. We had a controller fail and needed to replace it. The failed controller was an HP SmartArray 5300. We tried to replace it with a SmartArray 6400. After we installed the new controller, we received a Stop Error 0x0000007B. We could not boot to safe mode. What is the procedure to change the boot controller to a different controller in Server 2003? I was not able to find documentation on this. Thanks, Steve

Force SMB v1 on Windows 2008 Server
by Guest Christophe CHESNEAU- 2 replies

Hello, Is it possible to force SMB v1 in 2008 Server ? I have 1 W2K8 Data server and 2 W2K8 TS with an old Windev application which use indexed file for it database and I have a lot of corruption in these file due to Opportunistic Lock. My problem is that in 2008 Server, the opportunistic locking couldn't be disable because of the version 2 of SMB. Could we limitate the Lanmanserver service to emulate uniquely SMB V1 ? Thanks in advance. Regards Christophe CHESNEAU

Offline Files Synchronization Failure
by Guest Jim- 0 replies

Hello all, I have a client who is experiencing problems synchronizing a large amount of data (approx 60GB) from a network share using offline files (on Windows XP clients) - effectively the synchronization looks like it has completed, but when disconnecting the PC from the network the majority of the files are not there (and the files are indeed shown as not being synch'd in the Offline Files Folder). The files in question are predominantly word / excel Office documents (i.e. supported file types) so the problem appears to be size related. We have implemented a GPO on the Server (SBS 2003 Std) to ensure that both the 'Default Cache Size' on t…
