Connection Problems

Client is have network connection problems. When they login in the morning, getting the message that "can't connect to all network drives. When they try to select something in the drop down menu, for example, in Word 2003, their computer freezes and they have to reboot, or have to end task in task manager. I did update the driver for the Lan connection on the Server. Internet works fine. I posted this in the networking newsgroup but did not get a reply. It is happening to all users, so seems to be a global thing. Any ideas! Thank you for your help in advance! Candace Sparks

I have a print server on my network, suddenly after reboot I am unable to see it from any machine by going Entire Network -> Microsoft Windows Networking -> Domain Name --> All machines. The see the server in Active Directory...This was in the event log, I downloaded the file microsft recommend per this event log but did not solve the issue -->"Windows saved user WBPRINT\Administrator registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. Windows 2003 Server w/ Service Pack 2 applied. It is currently up-to-date with all post-sp2 patches. Another vendor had installed a program called Scan Router Lite some time ago. It is a free program supplied with Ricoh Copiers that allows "push" scaning from the copier to a network drive. The program failed for whatever reason. The vendor performed a "repair" from add/remove programs. The program that he used was the old version that came with the copier (3 years ?). The "repair" required a re-boot. Have several questions related to login scripts: Does the NetLogon directory need to have the user's name added to it for read & execute permissions or would be be better to grant the Every One object read and execute permission - might be better to include the domain users group? Latter seems better as one may forget to add new user to Netlogon directory. In addition to the NetLogon directory, the login script (GroupMaps.vbs) is also listed/included in a group policy for domain users. Have my ntbackup jobs configured to run twice a day to backup exchange database files and server system state data. Get an error message in the event log: NTBackup error: 'The operation failed. Consult the Backup Report for more details.' Checked the backup log report and it states as follows: Backup Status The operation was not performed because the specified media cannot be found. What concerns me is I know the scheduled task and backup job is configured properly because when I select and run the scheduled task job from the control panel manually (clicking on it to run), it goes smoothly without a hitch. Hey guys i have a problem with one of my network shared folder, this folder contains a software that i want to install across the network. my problem is that, folder has been shared and i have given everyone a full access (i mean really total access to this folder) but i get the access denied problem. what makes me confuse is that i have other shared folders which contains also some softwares and everyone only has read and execute permission but they dont have any problem, they cant install the softwares across the network. But this particular network shared folder keeps on denying everyone who access it and yet everyone has total access on it....:) can anyone pls…

I am receiving this error message on one of my DC's The Group Policy client-side extension Security failed to log RSOP (Resultant Set of Policy) data. Please look for any errors reported earlier by that extension. EventID 1091 This is only occuring on this DC. None of the client machines that authenticate to this DC are having any error messages. None of them are having mapping issues and there are no IPsec settings in the GP. From all that I have read on the Internet, that is usually the suspect, but I cannot seem to find any solution that will fix this problem. If anybody knows what to try, please let me know. Thanks

ok call me stupid, but I need some pointers ; just installed email services (SMPT) and setup a remote domain..how the heck does one go about testing ability to send a simple outbound mail and what are the execution steps ? Have no idea where to start. I am running windows server 2003 enterprise under Computer Management, IIS, you can see that SMTP was installed - it says "default virtual SMTP Server and underneath it says "domains" and also "Current sessions". Hi, I have 2 DC and 2 member servers configured as Terminal Service where user can log on to as they will on an XP station (App mode). All runs Windows 2003 SP2 R2 Note that I am using roaming profile and folder redirection using group policies My question is: why some of the user have their profile created as C:\Documents and Settings\username.domainname and other simply created as C:\Documents and Settings\username? No user with the same name have never been created locally and I don't think there is a profile corruption. Has anyone else experienced a problem with usb devices no longer working? I have had mine for 2/years and around early October it has stopped working on my win/xp machine. It will not work on win/vista either. Sometimes it gets recognized, but, more often than not, it does not. I has worked on my machine for 2/years, now all of a sudden it won't. The typcial efforts w/device manager etc... have not worked. Will work on win/98 w/out fail. If I boot up in safe mode and it recognizes the drive, accessing the info will cause it to get wiped out. ?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

We are seeing instances in our IIS logs where a request to generate a PDF is associated with sc-status = 200 and the sc-win32-status is equal to 64. In this scenario the PDF request is not fulfilled. If i RDP to my server and after a period of inactivity (usually a couple hours, generaly overnight) when i try to remote to it i get to the login screen telling me that the computer is locked. When trying to login it won't let me. I cannot remember the exact error, but it is like I don't have the correct password. This account is the domain administrator and the password is correct. I've tried to login to the local administrator and a domain admin account and they all have the same problem. If i log out instead of closing the session it is okay. Is there a problem with terminal services? or am i missing something really stupid. Thanks for all you help. Mike.

good morning, i have enabled on a win 2003 sbs server the 'shadow copies' of shared folders since the end of september. When i right click on the volume where shadow copies are enabled, in the shadow copy configuration, i can only see the last two copies of the volume (i leaved the default settings : 7am and 12am every weekday for shadow copies). I read I can have as long as 64 shadow copy of the same modified file, and that's what i want: being able to track and retrive an old versioned file that a user overwrited, but at the moment i can only see 1 old version of the file and nothing more. Hi , I am trying to add my application in the windows firewall exception list using coomand prompt . This works fine on windows XP and windows vista but when i am adding my application on windows server 2003 enterprise edition through command prompt,it is not adding my application in firewall exception list. i am adding it through netsh command. but it gives me error that firewall is not recognized as internal command. Hi, We are using Windows 2000 Server in Windows 2000 Exchange server and our domain name is "silvertidesoftware.com". From last night we are unable to receive any mails. The mails we are sending other domains are going but we are not receiving any mail there is no error message while clicking the send/ receive button in the outlook express. I have restarted all the services. We checked the SMTP and the POP3 configuration looks fine. We even tried dismounting and mounting the information store. We even did the integrity check. I asked this question in the SQL forum and haven't received a reply so I thought I'd ask you folks (your probably smarter). Does anyone know why a SQL 2005 Bulk Insert can't read a file (Access Denied) that contains a CName in the UNC but can read the same file when the UNC contains the server's NetBOIS name? If you do, do you know a way around the CName issue? Could it have something to do with the LoopbackCheck in SP1? BTW, other than this SQL issue, the UNC works just fine with the CName. Hi, I'm running into file ownership and permission problems especially as it pertains to users redirected folders. I'm finding that if a user should become a member of the domain Administrators security group, any files created or modified during that time will be owned by the Administrators group and the permissions will not include the user. Once the user is removed from the Administrators group, they will no longer have access to these files. Examples of the problems this causes: 1) The user opens Outlook while a member of the Administrators group.
