Hi, we just installed a file server (and print server) with good hardware configurations. However, users experience very poor performance when reading files from folders in that server. Curiously, uploading a file works fine, the problem is when we try to open it. Any tip to start looking for a solution? Regards. Daniel

Hi, We have a Domain Controller in our branch office. Now we want to change the network address of the branch office. For this, it is clear that we have to change the IP of the DC running in that site. So, I want to know whether I change easily the DC 's IP without any problem. Is there anything to be taken into account or any steps to be followed for this operation? Thanks for help in advance. Ali Kemal. Tunca.

Remove Old Mapped Printers via GPO/Script/Something?
by Guest Scott Townsend- 1 reply

We've migrated our Print Server a Few times and now we have several legasy printers mapped to user sessions. The Printers were connected by just double clicking the Printer Share on the Server by the User. So not pushed by GPO. We are now pushing out the New Printers to the users via GPO. Besides having the Users go and Delete the Printers out of the Printer's Control Panel, how can I delete them?? It would be great if there was a Script, GPO, or something that I could run when the user logs in and have it remove all of the old printers. I've tried running these Manually for users and myself. rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /q /dn /n\\server\HB…

Replacing domain controller and exchange box
by Guest infused- 2 replies

Hi All, I was wondering about the best way to replace a domain controller and exchange box while staying live if possible. If not, the shortest down time. I have one box as the domain controller and exchange box. I want to create a secondary domain controller to take over the primary role. I wish to build a seperate box for exchange as well, but the exchange box is normally quite busy. So basically I am splitting one box into two. My main concern is the exchange box. Suggestions? Thanks,

I have a vb app I would like to test running on server 2003 using terminal services to check the performance and reliability, and to see if I need to tweek the app any to allow it to run better using TS. I see where MS provides a trial version of server 2003, but am not clear on how I should download this. That is: - Should I be looking at the Virtual Server option, and am I correct in that this option will allow me to download what I thnk is a pre configured installation of server 2003? - Does this simplify my task of getting a test environment up, or do I just do a standard install of server 2033? - Will this also allow me to run XP on the same ma…

Services fail to start
by Guest John- 3 replies

Hi, I have a Win2k SP4 member server with an odd problem. Any of the services will only start if using the "local system account". If I select any other account e.g. domain admin, I get a time out message when I try to start the service and a message saying the service could not be started. The local security policy "Log on as service" has the domain admins group as well as individual admin accounts listed. The Domain security policy "log on as service" is not defined. The domain controller is windows 2003. Any suggestions please? John

Hello. We have a primary domain and a child domain at my work location. For security reasons we have a group of users in the child domain. They can login fine to the child domain and they should be issolated from our primary domain. For this example I will call the primary domain, acme.com and the child domain, child.acme.com We now have a need for some of these users to have the ability to login to the primary domain. How can I allow a few users from child.acme.com the rights and ability to login to our primary domain, acme.com without moving their accounts in AD from the child to the parent? When I try to login from a client workstation that is join…
