Problems with IAS/RADIUS policies Win2003
by Guest BurtReynolds- 0 replies

I'm running IAS on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition and am having some trouble with the Radius Client Access policies. My understanding of IAS policies it will process the policies in order from top to bottom. If all the conditions are not met in the first policy it will then move on to the next policy and so on. I have two policies, the first is to grant access to wireless clients using NAS Port type 802.1x and PEAP and the second policy is for NAS Port type 802.1x and users in a Windows security group called "WirelessAccess". If policy1 (802.1x and PEAP) is listed at the top clients that match it's conditions can connect but the clients who m…

I have a windows 2003 Server running terminal services in a remote sales office. The server is a member of our single domain. One of the users in this office logs into the terminal server and MAPS their user drive back to a 'Home' share on a server in our head office (W2003 fully pathced domain controller). When the user is attempting to open excell spreadsheets they are consistently generating daly write failed error messages on the terminal server. I have checked check permission which is all correct. I have checked time synchronisation and resynchronised I have check the domain for errors and it is clear I have done a dcdiag and it is clear I have conf…

How To Disable USB Removable Disk Using GPO?
by Guest M H Affendi- 4 replies

I am running AD on Windows Server 2003. My company is planning to apply a security policy to block users from copying out data from their PC to their USB flash drive/external drive. The policy is supposedly to block only the USB flash drive/external drive and not the USB mouse/keyboard. Do anybody know how to do this using Group Policy Object or can anybody direct me to the appropriate website? For your info, the client PC is running on Win XP and 2000 Pro. Thanks.

by Guest Mathieu EMERY- 1 reply

Hello, I'm looking for some help please ;) I'm actually migrating a W2K clustered print server to a 2003 clustered print server. I followed the white paper on how to create the 2003 print server cluster and all is working as intended. Now i'm trying to use printmig 3.1 to backup printer informations from the old cluster and restore them on the new one. So from one of the node of the old cluster, I use printmig, I change target to connect the cluster and then backup. AFAIK the backup looks ok. After, from one of the node of the new cluster, I use printmig, I change target to connect the cluster and then I try to restore but I get systematicaly…

(For example, When I am typing a "P", Windows shows me a "M". CHKDSK rerun and rerun
by Guest Tom- 3 replies

Win2K3 SP2 - all MS updates through last week We are continually getting errors upon running CHKDSK /f or CHKDSK /r. We get a fine stage 1 of 5 but stage 2 of 5 ends abnormally. The abnormal terminal provides a different set of indices (total) and indices reviewed. The drive is a 1TB drive that has a lot of zip'd files on it. We've typically used it as an online back drive. Drive is <1 year old. (Maxtor OneTouch - RAID 1) 1) Is there a benefit to continuing on? 2) What's the benefit to stopping? 3) We are unable to delete some directories/files due to a 'bad' recycle file on drive K (the corrupted platter). Any suggestions? TIA!

Hi, Installed Windows Server 2003 sp1 Web Edition from OEM (Dell) CD. Updated to sp2 using MS Update online, and tried to find and run “Configure Your Server and Manage Your Server Wizards”, but the services are not installed by default on the server. At the same time, according Microsoft, these Wizards are a part of OS: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/windowsserver/evaluate/features/compare.mspx Tried to use cys.exe (Standard Edition / R2, v. 5.2.3790.3959), but it doesn’t support Web Edition. Dell tech Support has no clue how to fix the problem. I’m asking the owner of the original Windows Server 2003 sp2 Web Edition CD to check the version of cys.exe…

Recommendations for Server Room KVM Switch?
by Guest Will- 8 replies
Does anyone have recommendations for server room KVM switches that can handle 16 or more Windows boxes at 1600x1200 resolution? The Belkin products for 16 ports are absolutely awful...constantly we have one or two servers that mysteriously stop being controlled by the switch and we have to reboot them. The list of names the Belkin shows on the screen for the systems mysteriously clears itself and you have to spend 10 minutes re establishing that list. This is happening on both older and newer generations of the Belkin product. I also don't want one of the many flimsy IP-based KVM solutions that make a 1600x1200 screen look like a jagged bitmap. …

Hi, I've been getting this event and is ignoring it. I don't know if i have to but here's the situation. The IP address in the netlogon.log are from the computers on our remote branches with w2k3 ad domain with full trust to our w2k3 ad domain with different ip subnet. I did not create any sites for these subnets in the sites and services as they belong to a differnt domain. Should i be creating them to resolve the 5807 events? Thanks, TagaR

Hello Everyone, I am having very frustating problem when trying to install WDS on a 2003 SP2 member server. I have successfully installed WDS on a server in central office and had absolutely no problems. So you would think that the second one would be a peice of cake. 1 large head office and lots of branches!
by Guest UselessUser- 4 replies

Hi all, I got a new job, and it is vastly different to where I was before (Supporting users all in one building), here they have a large head office (600 users), with several 150+ small geographically distant sites, each containing from 3 to 10 PC's... The way this has been managed is simple, HO uses group policies, domain logons etc, whereas all the branches have local user accounts, and use webmail or have outlook configured to our Exchange in HO, and they map network drives manually... I am not sure why it is like this, but obviously it is a pain in the a**e to manage... with any changes needing to be manually made to every computer in every si…

Whose DNS do I use for Win2K3 R2 IIS in DMZ?
by Guest Tankster- 3 replies
I have a newly installed server running IIS that I want to put in a DMZ. My question is whose DNS servers will the machine reference? There will not be a DNS server in the DMZ and I'm pretty sure I don't point to my internal AD/DNS servers (would have to open more holes in firewall), but yet my internal users need to be able to ftp web changes up to the server... how is this normally done? Is it just standard for the traffic to just "loop" through the firewall since if I use the ISP's DNS, I would think that since it would resolve to the public IP(s) of the firewall, that it will hit the outside port and come back through... Am I thinking right on this, or …

Every once in while, a user will try to change/delete a file name. When the folder is refreshed, the changes are not applied. The same old file reappeares or the file isn't deleted. This doesn't happen all the time. This also happens to the users Home drive and their "my Documents folder" that has been relocated to a folder on their home drive and if the "My Docs" isn't synchronized to their PC. 2nd problem. Virus protection on servers?

I have 13 Windows based servers. Many of these were installed over the last 3 months as we made the transition from being primarly a Novell shop to Windows based servers. Here is the breakdown: 2 domain controllers/dns/dhcp 2 Exchange 2007 ISA Server SQL Server IIS 6 Application Servers What is the consensus on whether I should have virus protection installed on these servers? I do not have any file servers since my NetApp SAN takes care of that. I do own McAfee's Enterprise package which includes McAfee's VirusScan plus their add on Spam protection piece. We have this product installed on all of our client machines, I am not sure if it is a good idea to…

Clean Server Harddrive Before Scraping

Need to make sure the harddrive of a server is not readable (without superhuman effort) after a server is scrapped. I've been reading about Low level disk format (not used on modern drives) and zero-fill utilities. Some Zero-fill say you have to get the one from the manufacturer of the drives/server and others say you can use any generic one. Has anyone every done what I need to do? All servers are running Windows 2000 oe 2003.

Folder redirection & slow links ...
by Guest the.bones@gmail.com- 1 reply
All, I know this has been asked/answered before, but wanted to see if anyone had any reasonable workarounds. We just setup a branch office with a "slow link", and naturally, Windows folder redirection becomes unusable for users at that location. However, I like folder redirection because it provides for a centralized backup mechanism for user data. Is there some way to: 1. At logon, sync redirected folders over the network 2. Force the user work off the locally cached copy during the workday 3. At logoff, sync the redirected folders with the server again ? Any help appreciated. Bones
