Large Files - Filewrite performance Windows Server 2003
by Guest Peter- 0 replies

Filewrite Performance decreases heavily over time when writing large files (100gb+). we experienced that when dumping large files out from a database. For testing this issue we simply created a small script that generates a file and logs the i/o writing performance. The performance starts at about 125mb/s and then constantly drops over time. after some mins it is down to 20mb/s. The curious thing is if i start a 2nd process while the other is still running the same thing happens again in nearly the same time. my first assumption would have been that the performance should be low allready when starting the 2nd process but the performance over time is ne…

MI5-Persecution: MI5 are Afraid to Admit Theyre Behind the Persecution (28056)
by Guest MI5-Victim@mi5.gov.uk- 1 reply

MI5 are Afraid to Admit They're Behind the Persecution MI5 have issued a formal denial of any involvement in my life to the Security Service Tribunal, as you might expect them to; but, more importantly, the persecutors have never denied that theyre from the Security Service, despite several years of accusations from my corner on usenet and in faxed articles. I am not surprised that the Security Service Tribunal found "no determination in your favour". I am however a little surprised that the persecutors have refused to confirm my identification of them; by doing so, they implicitly admit that my guess was right. "No determination in your favour" says the Secu…

Hi all, I'm tryng to operate a Tandberg storage library autoloader with rsm. from the technet web site (http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/451394eb-4314-4005-85da-a3c49c00c5041033.mspx?mfr=true) I read that "To inventory the media in a specified automated library" I have to write down this command: rsm /lfTANDBERG /aFULL where TANDBERG is the name I've assigned to my library. Technet says that this command make an inventory (using barcode) of the tapes in my library, but even if the commad completes succesfully (in less than a second) no inventory is performed... by Guest Zeno- 0 replies

Hi..... I have come across something strange performing a Win2k3 Server Ent. Edition repair reinstall. As I'm performing a regular test by doing a DR recovery of our Win2k3 Domain Controllers in our test lab to different hardware. What I've done so far is; 1. Perform standard Win2k3 Ent Edition install from CD 2. Taken the System State backup from our production server and restored to a test lab machine 3. Perfrom a "repair reinstall" because hardware is different and it wouldn't boot up What I've found is during the repair installation it asks for the serial key which I entered and it worked fine, but then after the full repair when I logged into Win…

Unable to change "Enable Remote Desktop On this Computer"
by Guest Peter- 0 replies

We are running a Windows 2003 in a workgroup environment. As advised by consultant, we just disable the "IE Enhanced Security" in Add / Remove Programs. Since then, we find that the checkbox next to "Enable Remote Desktop On This Computer" is greyed out. On the other hand, we are still enable to use RDP with Administrator as Login. Is there any suggestion on how to fix this case ? Thanks

Authentication and KDC Problems
by Guest K- 2 replies

I have a 2k3 native domain with 2 DCs. DC 1 has all FSMO roles and DNS installed DC 2 also has DNS installed DC 2 did have the windows CA installed, although it was never used to issue certificates. When rationalising our services the CA was uninstalled and reinstalled on a member server on the domain. The last week or so users have been experiencing problems with their home drive mapping. Randomly, some users will get the map, where others will get it but will get access denied if they try to open it. If they log off, wait 2 mins and log back on they can access the home drive. Home drives are a share on DC 1. Whilst trawling through the event…

kb831464 and kb884848
by Guest seanmig- 2 replies

Hi, Do you still need to still need to install kb831464 and kb884848 if you're already using Windows Server 2003 SP1? The prerequisite for kb 831464 is IE 6.0 does this mean if you have IE 6.0 SP1 you don't need to install it? KB884848 has no prerequisite. Does this mean we still have to install it. Your response will be much appreciated. Thanks and regards, Charles

MI5-Persecution: Why do you think MI5 are responsible? (4043)
by Guest MI5-Victim@mi5.gov.uk- 1 reply
Why do you think MI5 are responsible? The question of who is ultimately responsible for this eight-year harassment is one which is very difficult to answer, as the persecutors have never clearly made their identities known to the persecutee. However, I believe I am correct in attributing the continuing victimisation to elements of the British Security Service MI5, and in this article, I will try to explain the reasons for this belief. The British internet magazine ".net" featured my website on page 17 of their March 1998 issue (number 42). Their review kindly describes it as an "excellent site" and gives some details of what the net surfer will find there. S…

Checking to see whether an external drive is attached
by Guest Andrew Williams- 2 replies

I have a client who uses an external drive for backup purposes. The backup is scheduled to run every night and backup to drive E: which is the external USB drive. The problem is that he alternates between 2 identical drives and keeps one in a safe in case of disaster. When he unplugs the USB cable and power cable on one drive and swaps it for the other drive, sometimes Windows does not recognise the drive and the backup fails. 80% of the time, the drive is mounted and the backup works. I'm looking for much better availability than this though. My question is, is there a way of notifying the user that the drive is not attached properly? I want a 'ping…

Hi all, I have a folder on a Win 2003 Server (NTFS volume) that I cannot gain access to. This folder has no security tab on it when I right click and go to properties. I cannot take ownership of it, and cannot force it to inherit permissions from above. Server dies with large number of LUNs
by Guest Nick Payne- 0 replies

Server is a Dell 6850 with 16Gb RAM running Win2003 x64 SP2, Emulex LPe11002 HBA with current storport driver. LUNs on an EMC CX380. If I only zone a dozen LUNs to the server, then all is fine. However, if I zone 60 LUNs, then a) server is very slow to boot, showing the splash screen for 15 minutes or more before finally showing the GUI and login dialog, and b) Disk Management on the server has gone gaga and although it sees all the LUNs, it will not allow any of them, including local LUNs as well as those on the SAN, to be either partitioned or formatted. If I unzone the additional LUNs back down to a dozen or so then the problem vanishes. I also tried…

Hi hope someone could help me. We've changed ISP and upgraded our DSL line from 512kbps to 2mbps, our new ISP gave us a username and password then I changed the account information on our Speedtouch 546 router. Now I could surf the internet only when I'm connected to the router directly. My problem now is the computer clients connected to my ISA server which gives them an error: Forbidden you were denied access because: Access denied by access control policy I could ping from webpages from client computers without any problem, and we have 2 NIC's from our ISA server. Is this DNS problem or ISA configuration? Can someone pls. tell me how to solve this issue.…

Hi All Wondered if you could help. I've just added some old Ergo laptops (still WinXP Pro SP2) to our school domain and the off-line setup has really affected the performance of these laptops. FYR, before I joined the laptops to the domain I copied the contents of their My Docs to the user's home drive on the server, deleted the contents of the My Docs on the laptops, joined them to the domain and then waited for the log off process to sync the files on the laptops with the files on the server. I can appreciate that the first time you log off after joining the domain it can take ages for the files to sync between the laptop and the server, but …
