How Powerful A Server To Purchase
by Guest DHamer- 0 replies

Firstly: We are quite a new MS Server 2003 network, comprising of around 10k users, and 40 ish servers. We urgently need to look at virtualisation, and I have noticed that Microsoft Systems Centre 2007 comprises a few products which we are very eager to use; Softgrid (For virtual applications) System Centre Virtual Machine Manager (for virtual servers) Systems Centre Operations Manager (for monitoring server health) Im totally unable to identify what server requirments are for the actualy System Centre installation. Would I be correct in thinking that I need a dedicated server for System Centre 2007 with operations manager, vm manager and softgrid…

by Guest John Holt- 3 replies

Hi guys, Got a good one for ya. :) I have a couple of users that are in a domain and I want to move them to another domain. I want to do it as painless as possible to them. Would be nice if they could use the same profile on their workstation. That's the kicker. How can I move them and use the same profile under Documents and Settings as they always have, preserving all their register entries for the various programs they use??? Thanks, John

NTP warning
by Guest Canuck geoff- 2 replies
Hi: I have a series of Win2000 servers that were formerly connecting for NTP to my client's site via a backend connection. A security finding meant they had to be redirected internally to our UNIX server as an NTP source. The machines are all stand alone machines, and they are regularly giving the warning below. When I try a manual update using w32tm -once everthing appears to work just fine as shown. The documentation (and even the options) seem to be conflicting, and from what I read net time is deprecated. Any assistance would be appreciated. Event Type: Warning Event Source: w32time Event Category: None Event ID: 11 Date: 4/7/2008 Time:…

We noticed there are lot of "Application Data" folder showing up in our user's Home folder. When I double-click on the "Application Data" folder, it will shows the user's name as "F:\home\john" and displaying all of my user's files. When I double-click on another "Application Data" folder it will show the next user's files. When I rename the "Application Data" folder to the user's name it will change the username to all of the "Application Data" folder. Could you tell me how to fix it?

I just set up W2K8 Std Server and started setting up IIS7... I created a site with a host header called bugs (this is in an AD Domain environement, Domain is on another server that is W2K3 SP2) but when I go to http://bugs it shows me the default site on iis! which has host headers set to *... ok so I changed that * to the name of the server (development) and now when I go to bugs it says 404... wierd I thought... so I disabled the default site and changed the host header of bugs to a catch all * and it works... bug no other sites with host headers work... what in the world is going on? help!!!!!! thanks!

Schedule system state backups on W2K8?
by Guest Augusto Alvarez- 0 replies
Hello everyone, (re-posting this question) Is there anyway to schedule the system state backups on a Windows Server 2008? I found out that the only way to accomplish that backup is using the WBADMIN cmd tool and there's no graphic option. I cannot use a .bat file with the task scheduler because the command line requires for confirmation when it runs. Anyone with a solution for this??? Thanks! -- augusto alvarez | it pro | southworks http://staff.southworks.net/aalvarez
