Bonjour! I have a service that I want to delay because it needs to be up before end. So I created a Windows service (Delay Service) and my application will start after that service has started but it doesn't work. In the OnStart of the service I loop for one minute, but when I install the service and start, it automatically say's it is started even if I have that loop. Does someone had a similar and how did you solved it?? Regards Joel :)

Need Help with Win 2008 Network Access Protection
by Guest Rob- 0 replies

I'm following Microsoft's "Step By Step Guide: Demonstrate DHCP NAP Enforcement in a Test Lab" but am having difficult. I have the 2 servers and 1 client set up per the directions, but am having 2 problems: 1. In the 1st test where the only SHV requirement is to have the Windows Firewall on, despite having it turned on in my Vista SP1 client, the machine is still being shunted to the restricted.contoso.com domain through DHCP. If I turn off NAP for the DHCP scope, then the client goes into the default contoso.com domain. Is there a way to see what's failing in the validation? I can't see anything in the NPS server event logs. 2. Despite having a router o…

by Guest Aamir- 0 replies

Hi, Initially we had single Windows 2003 domain Controller with Per server license mode (server1). After sometimes we changed the name of this server to Server2 by using NETDOM. We changed server license mode to Per Device Mode and have bought 30 CALs for per device. Problem is that license manager is still showing both old and new name in Server View window. When I click on old name ‘Server1’ I got message box ‘ access denied.’ How can I remove completely old license information? We later added two more servers and setup as Per Device mode and install DFS root on all three server and make all server Global catalog server. 2nd problem is tha…

Replacing a DC
by Guest SeriousSam- 2 replies

I need to replace a DC. I would like to get some feedback, before I get started. Currently the network has a SBS2003 as DC with no othe rmember servers. I need to replace that with a machine running Windows Server 2003 R2. I am considering the following: 1. Join the new server to the network and promote it to BDC. (Im still not sure this is possible with SBS, since SBS wants to be the only DC on a network.) 2. Decommision the SBS, and allow it to transfer the all the roles and Global Catalog to the new server. ....Will this work? If not whats the best path for this when SBS is part of the picture? Thanks! Issues Configuring SMTP for 1st Time
by Guest tuned- 1 reply

We're doing some testing w/ a W2k3 SE vm and would like to test the ability for mail to be sent directly from the server without using Exchange. The VM currently has an internal address on our network but I can give it an external one if that helps in the matter. IIS has been added as well as a Default SMTP server. Authentication has been configured to "anonymous access" and relay has been set to allow "all except the list below" with the list empty. This is a stand-alone server not part of a domain so under the domain name for the SMTP settings all that's listed is the server name. I've tried opening a telnet session to the mail server and sendin…

Wacky Backup
by Guest Anteaus- 0 replies

I'm beginning to wonder just what this 2003 R2 server has been smoking? http://iwrconsultancy.co.uk/img/wacky.gif Backup using NTBackup applet, batch (top left) file clearly defines tape name, yet the program requests last Friday's tape to be inserted instead of the one stated. What's even stranger is that if the job is cancelled then manually relaunched via the exact-same batch file, second time around it runs normally. I guess one answer would be Backup Exec, but for small sites it's a tad costly.

by Guest addygill@hotmail.com- 5 replies

Hi, We have two subnets linked together and two seperate routers that pipe out to the Internet, with another router joining the two subnets together. We need one subnet to use one Internet connection and the other subnet to use the other Internet connection. At the moment, it is set up as follows: Internet Connection (External IP) -> Router A (192.168.0.31) -> Subnet A -> Router B (Subnet A,192.168.0.42), (Subnet B, 192.168.1.1) -> Subnet B -> Router C (192.168.1.31) -> Internet Connection (External IP) I've managed to set it up so Subnet A and B can talk to each other, and one of the subnet can get out onto their Internet, but I'm unable …

Hi, I have a domain called 'company.local' which uses Windows SBS 2003. Here I have 30 client systems, which use IP 192.168.62.X. Now, I have a branch office network which is 20KM far away which use 192.168.63.X. This network is connected to my head office domain with Cisco 2811 router. Win2003 SBS - Can't Sop Services
by Guest Chris- 12 replies

Using Win 2003 Small Business Server with 14 clients. When logged on to the server box as the admin, I cannot stop/restart services. Each time I try, it appears that it works (I get the messages "Stopping Service..." and the progress bar, but it then fails sto stop the service. I searched on-line but couldn't find any reference to this behavior. Is this a known issue with Win2003 SBS ? I thought that logged on as the Admin, I should be able to do that. Do I have to do something special to gain that privilege? Chris... -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com

Server 2008 KMS - Error code 0xC004F038
by Guest Matt Carter- 1 reply

I am TRYING to go from Server 2003 to Server 2008, however it is frustrating. We have 12 KMS licenses, and I installed it on a brand new, formatted HP ProLiant system, x64. Standard Server 2008 X64 and it worked fine, it wanted to register with Microsoft to authenticate, no problem, KMS key entered, wait... wait.. bam, done! Excellent! Happy camper. THEN! I tried to do the same for ANOTHER system, which is NOT our KMS server, but a "client." It's the exact same hardware, it's exact in almost every way, but it's AD03 instead of AD04 (KMS) and it doesn't like the license when I try to find it. I get: Error code 0xC004F038 I went to: http://support.…

We are currently using robocopy to do a DR synch of files from one location to another (since its free). However users are complaining that file are inaccessible (locked). Is there another free tool that can be used to synch files that will cause file locks? Would FRS/DFS work? Any thought would be appreciated.

How do I restrict settings on only 1 TS server?
by Guest Noob- 0 replies
I need to remove the ability to create VPN connections off of only 1 terminal server. I know that I can create a new OU and move the TS server to there. Create a new GPO and make the change to "Network/Network Connections" section and apply it to that OU. But this is a "User Configuration" and will not apply to that server because there is no users under that OU (correct me if I am wrong on that). I can't apply the new GPO to the users OU because they make other VPN connection. So, how do I remove the ability to create VPN connections off of 1 Terminal Server? I have looked under the Local Security Settings but I am not able to find anything there. …
