Installing Vista printer drivers on Windows Server 2003 R2
by Guest majorg- 3 replies

My organisation has a Windows Server 2003 R2 print server, and mainly XP clients, but are introducing some Vista clients. When you go to add a printer driver on the server, there is no option to install one for Vista, which isn’t surprising because Server 2003 R2 was released before Vista, but is a patch available to resolve this problem?

Fax printer connection error, please help
by Guest amerdsp- 0 replies

I posted this on the SBS newsgroup and was advised to post here We have Windows Server 2003 as a domain controller and some of the pc's have windows xp media center 2005. I am unable to join the domain using xp media center, however, I was able to add the windows server 2003 shared fax printer. All seems to be going well except that when I open the Fax Console on any of the pc's I get "all fax printers are inaccessible" in the status bar. I am able to use shared folders but the fax problem I am unable to solve. I tried tinkering with the fax printer permissions and security settings, but nothing seems to help. Thank you for any insight you may give.…

Printer Directory
by Guest Zachary Dundore- 3 replies

We are running a Windows 2003 server domain controller that also acts as our printer server. Within the past week here our printer directory no longer displayed printers that were being shared on this server. I went on to the server and found that the list printer in directory box was still checked though the printers wouldn't display. Print functions to the server were fine. The only solution to our problem so far is to open each individual printer property box, uncheck the list in directory option, wait for a couple minutes for that change to take effect and then recheck it. After this the printer reappears. We have too many printers on this server…

Recently I patched one of our W2K3 R2 to SP2, and now I can't install Admin Pack. Keeps telling me the OS is not compatible? I recall some security updates in R2 SP2 may affect this, but how do I get around it? Thanks for your help.

Windows 2003 Remote Desktop Connection Any Changes?
by Guest Robert- 1 reply

Until about a month ago we were able to connect to our server with Remote Desktop Connection outside our network. Now we can only connect if we are on the network. We use the full domain name of the server. We have not change our firewall settings. Did they change the port that RDC with a security update? Any ideas where to look for this would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, This is an odd one.. My PDCe is showing a local user profile for almost every user on my network. They appear both within the System Properties ->Advanced->User Profiles as well as each has a folder within the C:\Documents and Setting\ . I know for a fact that these users have never logged into the server locally. We are redirecting the user's My Documents folder (to D:\Home\%username%) via GPO but are not using roaming profiles. These odd local profiles have a folder structure containing at the root "Application Data", "Cookies", "Local Settings", as well as "NTUser.dat" and "NTUser.dat.log". the size of each profile is approx 220KB. …

I am getting the above error when I create a Virtual Directory that points to the root of a volume on a remote Windows Server 2003 Box (member server). The config is as follows: 1: Using a custom application pool with a domain account that has read access (NTFS and Shared) permissions on the remote server. 2: The domain account is a member of the local IIS_WPG group on the web server. 3: I can see the folders from the IIS admin console within the Virt. Directory. 4: The UNC share on the remote server is not an admin share (such as F$). - I created my own. 5: My Permissions on the VIrt Dir are READ and BROWSE. If I share out a sub folder on the …

by Guest Ryanzome- 2 replies

Thanks in advance for any help. Almost everyday on a large corporate network, the network drives will drop. The drives are mapped via vb login script. What happens is the entire network (all network drives) at certain times will fail on transfers or any exe's will terminate or lock up if run from the network. Any idea why this could be happening? Thanks again. Ryan

For some reason I cannot load Windows 2003 Server SP2 on my exchange 2003 server. It fails either with the disk or from Windows Update site. From the windows Update site how can I bypass installing SP2 so that I can continue to install other updates? Right now it will only give SP2 as the only choice and it will not install.

by Guest mwebb- 0 replies

I like to run counter logs on my Win2003 servers. On two of my servers when I save the log settings and try to see the data using IE I get a security stop and IE will not open the htm file. It tells me to added the "site" to trusted sites. When I try that I get another error that tells me the site must be https. My other servers just give me a yellow bar warning but allow me to continue. How do I fix the servers that will not allow me to open the htm file with IE?

machines not correctly deleted from domain
by Guest paulreims@gmail.com- 4 replies

Hello, I have the problem that, after moving machines on client side from the domain back to a workgroup, they still appear in the Active Directory; so they seem not to be correctly taken of the domain. First I thought that it would be a problem of access rights on a given container, but even when using the domain-admin account on the client machine to configure the machine to be part of a workgroup, it is still not correctly deleted from the domain... In the event-log, I do not see any error. Any idea what could be the problem? Thank you very much in advance Best regards Paul reims

Print Server Driver Uprade and Workstation upgrade
by Guest Jeff Ku- 0 replies
I am in need of upgrading the printer drivers for one of my HP printers. This printer is also deployed on workstations. If I change the printer driver on the server, it appears to disconnect the printers from the users. Is there a way to push the print driver updates down. I can delete the printer manually and re attach but this is not a realistic approach to go to each user and interrupt them to delete and create a printer. Thank you to anyone who can help.

Switching Client to New Domain - How to retain settings?
by Guest Mike- 5 replies
I am creating a new domain on a new server. Not doing a migration. Going from WK2003 Server to SBS 2003 R2. The users will all be the same. When I remove from old domain and add to new domain, all settings are lost on client like Outlook, Desktop, etc. I realize all the shortcuts and navs will be broke but is there a way to rename the user under Doc and Sets to look at the new domain and retain some of these settings? Thanks

I'm setting up an ADAM instance on a 2003 server. I've set it to synch with AD, but I'm wondering how to limit what attributes are transfered from AD to ADAM? This ADAM instance will be in a DMZ, and I'd rather not copy all AD attributes to it.

Windows Server 2003 Crash, No BSOD, No Event Log, No Minidump
by Guest Steve Dowling- 0 replies

I have an HP Proliant server running Windows 2003 Enterprise and SQL Server 2005 which is crashing occasionally and leaving no trace of the crash other than an event log entry saying that the previous system shutdown was unexpected. The only way I have found to trigger the crash is by running a full scandisk on the secondary partition which is a RAID 5 array made up of 4 300GB drives. This makes me think that it may be a problem with the SCSI controller but I'm not sure how to diagnose this. I've managed to run scandisk in DOS mode without any problems being found and the HP diagnostics tools report that there are no issues with the RAID array. Do…

EFS over network
by Guest James Davies- 0 replies

I've created a folder which I've encrypted using the EFS on Windows Server 2003 and I'm trying to access it from a mapped drive on a standalone PC (the drive was mapped using the credentials of the account that was used for the encryption) but I'm getting an access denied message. Is it not possible to access encrypted files over the network in a non-domain environment? If not can anyone recommend software that can do this? I've tried TrueCrypt but that has problems over the network. thanks.
