I hope someone can direct me to a good article or how to handle digital certificates. I have a client that wants to go paperless and do not want to spend money on third party for 10 users to have a certificate to digitally sign the infopath forms. Its a small company with moss 2007 and latest windows server 2005. What are the steps should I take and can it run on the same server with Moss 2007? Thank you for your time.

Hello, I am having an issue with configuring NTFS permissions and Im struggling to find an appropriate solution.. My issue is regarding the management of top-level folder permissions. My goal is to prevent end-users from deleting, moving and/or renaming "top-level" folders while still allowing them to traverse, create, delete and modify the files and folders below the top-level folder. Example Structure: Drive: X -> TL-Folder-A -> 2ND-Level-Folder-A -> 3RD-Level-Folder-A -> FileX -> FileY -> 3RD-Level-Folder-B -> 3RD-Level-Folder-C -> 3RD-Level-Folder-D -> 2ND-Level-Folde…

USB Port Issue Breaks Network?
by Guest Jody- 9 replies

I have two NEW Windows 2003 SBS R2 Servers. Both are exhibiting the same issue after a recent Windows Update where all the USB ports stopped working and now there is a popup in task bar that keeps displaying the message “USB Device Not Recognized.” I first noticed a problem when the previously working USB keyboard and mouse locked up. After rebooting they were not recognized and the system hung after the Windows Splash page until I unplugged ALL USB devices. I could only get back I into the server by switching to a PS/2 mouse and keyboard. This issue just developed recently and appears to have also broken network communications between the server(s…

Hi, I have a windows 2003 server on a domain. The server has a share and I want to have scheduled tasks run on windows xp computer that right to the share. The windows xp computers are also joined to the same domain. So I have: c:\myshare shared as \\server\myshare What I want to be able to do is setup the security and share permissions so that scheduled tasks on client1 can write to that the share. The scheduled tasks on client1 run as "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" and have to run whether someone is logged in or not. I thought I could just assign write permissions to client1$ in both the share and security permissions and then the system account on clie…

Active Desktop/Roaming Profiles/GPO Woes
by Guest Lincoln- 0 replies

Hello all, We have a Windows 2003 Domain (non R2) with about 250 end users. The users all have roaming profiles. We use Group Policy to provide a consistent desktop accross all machines. Every once in a while we will have a random user who recieves an Active Desktop Recovery error and the wall paper we push is replaced with the white background and annoy text stating that there has been an Active Desktop Error. If you push the button to attempt to recover the desktop, you receive a scripting error. In the past, I would correct this by disabling the GPO, connect to the user's computer and delete the desktop.htt file from C:\documents and settings\…

Vmware product vs Virtual Server R2 sp1 (in hindsight of 2008hypervisor and VMM 2007)? I dont want to start any sort of flame wars here.. but looking for any technical info anyone can point me too.. perhaps benchmarks or independent reviews of each... We are starting to virtualize our servers.. some of them will be sql based.. ie: Dynamics 9.0/10.0, Systems Center Config Manager, Live Comm Server 2007 etc.. into 1 role per VS (which i believe is the general rule here).. The hardware is xeon 2.5 (dual cpu, quad cores).. with sata2 harddrive system (32mb cache drives, enterprise) with raid5 array and raid10 array. (for 40 users, usually 10 simulanteous sql…

Quota Management
by Guest Nalgene- 3 replies
Hi, I would like to enable quota management on a Windows server 2003. I want to activate it on user's home folder and not on the user itself. I know that Windows Server 2003 R2 allows it but my problem is (like many ohter person) that I have a Windows server 2003 SP1... We have a license of Windows server 2003 R2 that is used for another server and what I find curious is that the R2 version has been released in March 2006 and my Windows server 2003 SP1 has been released in July 2006 (4 months later) and I don't have this option... So, Is it possible to have this option (Folder quota management) on Windows Server 2003 Sp1? Thanks!

Hello all, I have a Windows 2003 DNS which cannot load images from amazon.com. It works perfectly ok in a Windows 2000 DNS setup. It looks like the images are hosted at ecx.images-amazon.com, g-ecx.images-amazon.com etc. This post is duplicated as I can't get any answers from MS DNS forum. I see some posts with similar cause but can't get a right answer. Please advice. Thanks all

Install Application for all users
by Guest Rune Bakken- 2 replies

Hi! When i install an application on a terminal server, I get an error message when I try to launch it with a different user from the one who installed it. Run-time error 713: Application-defined or Object-defined error. It doesn't matter which user tries to run it. Even if the launching user is an administrator. We used "Change user /install" during the installation. The software manufacturer doesn't know what the problem might be. They suggested to set the terminal services configuration to "Relaxed security". We tried this without any luck. Does anybody have any idea of where the problem might be? Regards Rune

by Guest Dave Alessi- 0 replies

I have windows 2003 web edition and have setup the mail server. I added a domain, and added a user to it. I setup the IIS server to anonymous authendication. I setup my router to allow traffic on port 110 and 25. I have followed the proceedures that I have found for setting up the srver. I cannot make the thing work. It produces no log files or event log entries. When I try and sign on it doesn't work. I tried using telnet and walking through the login process but it failes when i provide a password. Same thing when I try and log on using outlook. Where do I go for answers on this. -- Dave Alessi
