Laptop UNC nightmare

Hi All Our school has 4 identical Fujitsu laptops running WinXP Pro SP2 / NTFS file sys, but I cannot get one of them to see our server via UNC. This laptop: a) can get to the internet b) gets it's tcp/ip details from the server's dhcp server correctly c) does not have the firewall on d) has no internet security software installed such as Norton e) can ping the server f) the tcp/ip main window tick boxes, eg file&print sharing, are all ticked. but if I do \\servername\ it says it can't find the path found - whaaattt?? The other 3 laptops just found it and I could carry on copying files in seconds. By the way, this server is a Win2k3 server so …

Google Earth 2007 and Vista - Bad Install

Each time I try to open Google Earth after I download it, it just hangs. Sometimes if I wait long enough (more than 5 minutes) the program will open. Once it hangs I often have to do a forced shutdown since Task Manager won't come up for me to exit Google Earth. Can someone tell me what's wrong with this install. I've installed Earth several times to no avail (after uninstalling Earth each time). The last time I turned off my CA firewall before I downloaded the file.

We have some .net web services running on Win2003 Web edition IIS. From time to time we get from a Perl script that is contacting web services on this IIS server some time out. Checking network connectivity and other HW issues we found no problems, so there must be some kind of a problem on IIS that is running this web service. How can we approach to this problem and try to figure it out what could cause this timeouts? Thank you in advance. Regards,Miha

Hi All Authority who supplied us with a Win2k3 R2 Standard Server, don't appear to have installed IIS as there is no inetpub folder in the C drive or IIS admin in the Admin Tools section. Would like to create an intranet based web app using IIS and say MSDE or MySQL, but don't know if there any implications in activating IIS on the server - does anybody have any experience or know of any probs in doing this? ADMT Errors

I have 2 Windows 2003 domains with a 2-way trust established. I am trying to use ADMT to migrate one domain into the other. The domains share the same namespace, however they are not part of the same secuity boundary. I think this is part of the problem. The domains are "abc.local" (#1) and "md.abc.local" (#2). I can make the administrator of #1 a member of #2 but can not make the administrator of #2 a member of #1. As I understand it, this is a requirement. I am considering renaming #2 to "md.local" so they don't share the same namespace. any thoughts?

DFS folders unavailable

Hi, I've just created a DFS name space and a folder within this on a Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition server but when I try to access the folder from a client machine it gives me the following error: '\\server1.domain.com\storage\folder1 is not accessible. you might not have permissions to use this network resource. - The network path was not found.' However I can access \\server1.domain.com\storage\ without problems. I have checked the NTFS permissions and can't see anything wrong (have even tried giving Full Control to Everyone to no avail) Has anyone come across this before? Thanks.

Our office allows wireless access to the internet for visiting clients. This week one of the clients came in with a virus that sent out huge amounts of junk mail from his laptop, the sheer volume crippled everybodys access to email and the internet. It took me ages to identify the cause of the problem. 1) How do I prevent a reocurrence? Internet cafes manage this problem somehow. 2) We presently have 30 computers hooked up to our Windows 2003 Server box, but the company is rapidly expanding, and that number will be 100+ within the next 6 months. We have a Dell server running stand-aloneWin2003 Web Edition with 2 network adapters. One private IP is assigned to first NIC, the other is temporary disabled. We want to achieve that both network adapters are active using one private IP, in case one of them fails. Hi everyone, Our users try to login to the terminal server. They enter their login credentials and click OK to login but the terminal server just takes them back to the term server login. Has anyone seen this behaviour? Thanks!

Cannot logon to server - HELP

I have a 2003 Server running in standalone mode. On reboot, I can no longer login to the server in regular or safe mode. I get a The system cannot log you on now because the domain RFBDREG is not available. RFBDREG is the name of the server - no 'RFBDREG domain exists. I can start up the recovery console with no problems. How do I get my server back to where I can log on? Thanks, Bob

Windows Server 2003 x64: Unwanted sudden reboot of server when Itouch mouse or keyboard of server after being away from server console for 15minutes My Windows server 2003 x64 has some weird behaviour that it suddenly reboots when I touch either the mouse or keyboard after a period of at least 15 minutes of no activity at the server console. I already changed the power options properties to never stop any screen or harddrive and not to use hybernate, but this all does not seem to help. Please give suggestions! Thanks Orfeo

Need help please. I am working for an office that has Small Business Server 2003 with the workstations printing to a HP laserjet 1100 setup on the server. What is happening is that one of the workstations can print from the desktop (word, excel etc) but when they try to print through Meditech you see the print job show up on the server but then the server deletes the job out of the print queue before it is actually printed. The other workstation in the office has no problems printing from the desktop or meditech to the networked printer. I have removed and reistalled the print drivers on the server, workstaiton and have used a different user ID on the …

Simple question when you create an ASR set for a server it wants to create a floppy disk(s). Can you change this so you can have it create it to a usb thumb drive instead? Alot of of hte newer servers dont have floppy drives at all and i want to be able to utilize the ASR features on our new servers. is there an option to create these elsewhere? Everything i have read says you need a floppy disk to create the ASR set.

I'm working on setting up ADS to build HP servers. I have captured an image and can deploy that image to the same hardware platform. What I want to do is use that base image to image other types of HP servers and to do so I need to make other drivers available but I'm unsure as to where to locate the files...should I create some sort of sysprep subfolder and point to it in the sysprep.inf file. Or is there somewhere within the ADS folder tree where drivers can be placed? What's the most efficient way to use the base image to image multiple server models? Hello: I have a customer who had another consultant install Active Directory and Exchange on the same server. They used, as the domain name, BDL.local and the full computer name: bdas01.BDL.local. They've had some issues with Exchange, and I recently noticed they never setup a PTR for reverse DNS. I contacted their ISP to do this, but they need a valid mail server name. As far as I can tell, the mail server (which is the same server as the domain controller) is named bdas01.BDL.local. Unfortunately, their public domain name is bennettdesign.com. I would think the IP address of their mail server would need to resolve to a server name that has bennett…

Windows Server 2003 Enterprise, 5 users I am running a SCSI RAID system with internal 15k U320 hard drives. I recently added an eSata RAID box with mirrored hard drives. At the end of each day, I manually copy the SCSI data to the eSata system. However, I would prefer to have the SCSI data continuously copied to the eSata system Does Windows 2003 have that capability? If not, can anyone suggest a reliable 3rd party software package that will accomplish my objective, hopefully without taking a performance hit?

Allow a network adator to use a non-domain dhcp server

Hi, I am trying to setup two servers for some testing, one to act as a DC the other an Internet gateway. The DC seems to be running fine with all necessary roles installed (including a DHCP server). However the Gateway is unable to connect it to its internet connection when it is logged onto the domain. When logged on with the local account it works fine. I read somewhere that this is to do with the fact that the server is not allowed to get its internet IP address due to the fact that it is from a non-domain DHCP server. Memory Leak-Poolmon/Process Explorer Question

We are using SBS2000 -- not 2003 we know--but thought we would post to this group since the question could be relative to Server 2003. In the last 3 weeks we began to have a memory leak in the non-paged pool in which the server would have to be rebooted after exactly 1 week to the day & within a 3-hour timeframe. We ran poolmon.exe to help pinpoint the culprit and have collected data over a 4 day period. In poolmon three are (2) suspect tags: THre File We now want to run Process Explorer v11.04 to narrow down the offending process(s), etc. Based on the above tags, what do we look for in Process Explorer?
