CRITICAL - Random BSODs on boot
by Guest Stephen- 6 replies

I have a critical issue - I have a Windows 2003 Server that is experiencing random BSODs on boot. Each time, the machine boots up all the way - and if I'm quick, I can log in. But within seconds or minutes, I get a random BSOD. So far, I've seen: Stop 8E klif.sys Page_fault_in_nonpaged_area Stop 50 tcpip.sys Page_fault_in_nonpaged_area Stop 50 IRQL_not_less_or_equal Stop 0A Bugcode_NDIS_driver Stop 7C Booting in safe mode doesn't help. Neither does it help if I boot up after disconnecting the internet network cable. The server is perhaps a month behind on the Windows Update patches - so I suppose if one of those addressed a…

Users (Vista) Documents Folders
by Guest Peter Morgan- 0 replies

Under Windows XP using Roaming Profiles and Folder redirection for the My Documents folders, Windows creates a folder for each user under the specified share on the server. This folder, together with the appropriate security settings, was simply designated the users' name as per the %username% variable. The result of which was a shared network folder with multiple user's folders inside. As an administrator I could easily navigate to a user's redirected My Documents folder on this share and view/modify files as required. Windows Vista seems to do something a little different; as before it creates the relevant folder inside the share, but (somehow) they a…

Problem on schedule.

Hello. I am using windows schedules. For some reasons one of the schedule stopped running. I was since there was a fix of summer-time (from 12:30am to 1:30am) at the same minute the schedule runs (it runs at each minute). The schedule stopped running and I think it's due the above problem. Does the schedule always write on queue or something simmiliar to queue : what is the next time running ? Is that true ? If it is done so, then when there is a problem, the schedule stops running forever, because there is no schedule to write "what is the next time running". Is there any way to overcome the problem ?

Hi to all, I have a problem with SNMP Service on a Windows 2003 SP2. I have installed the service but this don't start and gives back the following message: The SNMP Service service on local computer started and then stopped. Some service stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example the Performance Logs and Alert Services. Also I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the service through "Add/Remove Application" but does not change nothing. Someone knows what I can control? Thanks! Carlo

Hello I have an issue I need help with. Adding a new XP pro workstation to an existing domain "local" with one DC Windows 2000 server. New workstation is named "consult3" I get an error "A domain controller for the domain local could not be contacted..." replacing an old server with the same name
by Guest Chris- 3 replies

I need to replace the old file server (FS1, windows 2000) with a new server (FS1a, windows 2003). I want the new one to keep the same name and IP from the old one. Also, I need to keep the old one online for a few months. Need someone to verify my steps. 1. on FS1, assign a new IP. Then right-click on My computer, Properties, Computer Name, Change. Type in FS1old as the new name. Verify authentication and reboot. 2. In AD reset the computer account, FS1. 3. On FS1a, assign the IP used by FS1. Then use the same procedure to rename FS1a to FS1. Reboot. I tnink that's all, right? Thanks.

Move user local profiles to roaming profiles
by Guest Namaste- 4 replies

I understand what needs to me done on the domain user account and the shared storage when creating roaming profiles. What I am confused about is if I have to use the Copy To in the user profile management on the local system to copyt the local profile to a roaming profile. I have seen a couple of MS and non-MS articles that say to do the copy or just logon the the system with the roaming profile you want to make roaming and then log out (understanding the first you had to change the user's AD account to use roaming profiles and setup the shared storage). So do ou use Copy To or does a simple logon and logout move the profile? Second question, we woul…

Printer Server and Client Drivers
by Guest Aaron- 4 replies

This might be a shot in the dark, but we recently created a new windows print server running on Server 2003 R2, to take over for our aged server 2000 print server. All the queues seem to work and you can print to the printers on the new server just fine. However, we have a very simple script that runs on various machines to add a default printer. This script has always worked just fine with the old server, but when we change the script to point to the new server (just replacing the server name because the print queue names are the same on both) we sometimes (NOTE I said SOMETIMES) get a script error of "The remote procedure call failed". Also, if the script f…

Defrag with RAID volumes
by Guest caleb- 2 replies

Hello all, I was wondering if the standard Disk Defragmenter that comes with Server2003 will perform a sufficient defrag on a RAID 10 volume (or any RAID volume). If not, what software options do I have to perform the defragmentation? Thanks!
