I'm running windows server 2003 and trying to create a one-way external trust to another domain as described here: http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/2dcc40a8-1781-427a-b806-ea10d16ffac81033.mspx?mfr=true I'm able to get almost all the way through the trust creation wizard, I even make it right up to the completing the trust page, but I receive this error: The trust relationship cannot be created because the following error occurred. The operation failed. The error is: The domain was in the wrong state to perform the security operation. Can anyone help me figure out what we might be missing? Thanks! Joel

Using SBS 2003 Standard and I would like to copy a dir from each of my clients once a week to my server for file storage purposes. I don't want them to be encrypted so they can be viewed anytime from server operator. Anyone know of a good piece of free software that would do this? I was thinking about writing an old type .bat file, but figured someone must have written something for this by now. Thanks in advance!

Easy Question Re: Server Deployment
by Guest Bazooka-Joe- 0 replies

So, my (albeit limited) understanding of the future of Microsoft's server deployment strategy is a little sketchy. There's been so many tools and methodologies from Microsoft in the last few years what with ADS, APF, ADT, BOIS, BDD 2007, that perhaps I'm just confused. But specifically, with regards to Windows Server 2008, tell me if I've got this right: Windows Deployment Services (WDS) is available as an option for Windows Server 2003 SP2, and comes standard with Windows Server 2008. And apparently, additional functionality will be available within System Center Configuration Manager 2007 (SCCM), which is the successor to SMS, correct? And in addition …

utility needed to max out page file use
by Guest RossB- 1 reply

I am looking to test multiple servers accessing SAN storage, while maximising page file use. Are there any utilities out there to maximise page file use? I wish to ensure we can use multiple servers both, booting from and accessing SAN at the same time. Essentially, I have read that there are issues doing this, and wish to verify the stability of using SANs to replace internal hard disks, as we have significant performance advantages doing this(around 20 times faster on read and write access).

MS Windows 2003 IIS 6.0 Our network is split and we in fact have two networks. Our web server is able to see both networks (1 connection to the internal network and 1 connection to the external network) At this point, joining the networks is not a viable solution. We are experiencing intermittent problems connecting to the internet from the server. It maintains connectivity since all traffic coming to the server is fine and responds fine. The issue we are experiencing is that when we try to connect to a web page external to our network, we get a page cannot be displayed error. As the subject states, this is intermittent. Sometimes it works, sometimes i…

However, I am unable to install the Certificate Services. The installation fails with "The service is not started 0x80070842 (WIN32: 2114)". In the event log I am presented with two log entries relating to the Certificate services: Event Type: Error Event Source: CertSvc Event Category: None Event ID: 44 Date: 12/4/2007 Time: 2:29:31 PM Description: The "Windows default" Policy Module "Initialize" method returned an error. The handle is invalid. The returned status code …

I am having trouble syncing my DC's with an outside time source and an inside time source. I have used the following command with no luck: w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:NTP_server_IP_Address,0x08 /syncfromflags:MANUAL For NTP_server_IP_Address I used the following entries: time.windows.com, pool.ntp.org, & time.nist.gov. After restarting the time service, I would run the command, w32tm /resync and I get the following the error message: "The computer did not resync because no time data was available." I then wen to a member server and ran the same commands except they work on the member server. So I then tried to sync the DC's with the member server …

"Printer cannot be removed. Access is denied"
by Guest Alan Truism- 2 replies

I have a problem with a printer on a Windows 2003 server, running terminal services. Whenever anyone tries to print to it, they get an "access denied" error. Whenever I log on administratively to the server, and try to view the properties of that installed printer I get an access denied error. I can't even delete, rename, or remove the share on that printer. No matter what I try to do I get that error. Even if I logon to the local administrator account. I've restarted the print spooler service and the same thing happens. The printer is called "Plain". I created a new installation on the same server, pointing to the same printer, using the same print driv…

Guys, can anyone tell me if it is possible to redirect the Microsoft Update files? I have a Windows SBS 2003 server and wish to point the automatic updates to a different location other than C:\Windows simply for easier disk management but can find no way of doing this. Thought I could use mounting but you can only mount empty directories so that didn't help much. Any suggestions?

Server error messages every 30 hours
by Guest samizza- 7 replies
This problem started two weeks ago and occurs after the server has run approx. 30 hours. The errors seem related and all seem to occur with a couple of minutes of each error. Once the errors occur, Event Viewer messages repeat every few minutes (for hours) until I reboot the server. After rebooting the server, it will run fine with no errors, Event Viewer, for another 30 hours or so, before repeating the same errors. The server is about 3 yrs. old. and up until now, I've never had any type of problem with this server. I haven't installed any new software on the server and its scans clean (AV and Spyware). The errors that occur, in Event Viewer, are Applic…

Hi guys, I am unable to access a mapped network shared folder after mapping it. I tried to mapped to another folder, it works. I had checked security settings and also permissions, gave it a full access, but still it doesn't work. The strangest thing is, when I mapped from the "Run" box, it works! Same folder, same server, everything same. Just that when I mapped it under right click "My Computer", map network drive, i still can mapped, but have message " Access is denied". Anybody have any solutions? Thanks in advance!

Performance counter: The average values always take the no activitysampling interval into account?

Performance counter: The average values always take the no activitysampling interval into account? Hi, I was checking my performance counters recorded on my server, and found something unexpected. say my sampling interval is 15 seconds, and the time I record the performance counter is 60 seconds. For example, Avg. Disk Bytes/Transfer the first interval (15 seconds): 200 the second interval (30 seconds): 0 the third interval (45 seconds) : 400 the fourth interval (60 seconds): 0 There are only two transfers during 60 seconds, and the average disk bytes/transfer should be calculated as: (200+400)/2 = 300 But the perfmon give…
