Hi to MCP and the Experience Pros out there, my company have just purchase a HP Proliant ML350 Server G4p - quad 3.2Ghz Xeon, 4GB Ram, 2x725Watts power supply, 5X72GB HDD with RAID hardware. I have to install either Windows Server 2003 with 32 bits or 64 bits, i did some research for 32 and 64 bits, i found out that 64bits can fully utilize the physical memory and so on, but overall, i am still blur about it. 1. can any Pros out there give me some advantage and disadvantage of 32bits and 64bits? 2. this Proliant Server have RAID hardware, from what i heard, it says that RAID 5 can auto backup and recreate data files if one of the harddisk break down, can …

Hi, I have W2K3 SP2 Standard server running SQL 2000 standard. I was trying to specify a non SA account to run SQL Server Agent jobs but when I entered the username and password of the account I got the following error. An I/O operation initiated by the Registry failed unrecoverably. The Registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that contain the system's image of the Registry. The Event ID is 333 On closer examination of the system log I noticed that i was getting this error 60-70 times a minute and had been doing so for several weeks. Can anyone throw any light on this problem? Thanks in advance

by Guest gman- 0 replies

I have a large disk array SATA Perc 5 array Hardware is ok. The drive is only part there. Some folders are empty and the rest I can not copy to or from. The power faild during an update and I think the File table is corrupt. I would like to back up the current file table and the second copy of the file table but I am getting lost in that I am not sure if I need to back up the $MFT and $MFTmirr or if the MBR is also part of the meta data needed to restore the state. Bottom line I need to restore the file system prior to the crash. What tools should I use? C drive is mirrored OS and is OK. E, F, G, are on the Raid array over 10 TB This is a MS NAS s…

by Guest Scott Townsend- 1 reply

So when ever anyone logs into their machine (WInXP SP1, WInXP SP2, Win Vista, Win2003 Server, they all get a Spooler Subsystem Error. This happened after I set up some printers to be deployed via Group Policy. I deployed several Pinters and tested them and they all print fine. So I deleted the Originals that were installed. In some cases the user has to manually restart the spooler service, though most of the time printing continues as normal All of the Printers that are deployed are on a Win2008 32bit server. Below is the info on the Crash. Thanks, szAppName : spoolsv.exe szAppVer : 5.2.3790.3959 szModName : localspl.dll szModVer :…

I'm trying to test creating a Namespace (accounting) on SRV1 with R2 and SRV2 with R2 also they are the only servers with that version currently. I'm creating the namespace on SRV1 but if I select Domain-based namespace I get the following error: \\Domain.com\accounting cannot be added. The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. If I select Stand-alone namespace it creates fine. Can someone help me? We would like to have fault tolerance if SRV1 goes down we can still access the files from SRV2. Thanks

Many Robocopy and cmd processes
by Guest Tmuldoon- 1 reply

Hello, We are using Robocopy on on Windows 2003 servers. We have 8 Robocopy processes - yet 10 show up in task manager. We also find out Robocopy fails occasionally - so we restart it - but then see multiple robocopy and cmd.exe in the the task manager as well. Instead of 8 processes - we found about 50 at one point, an nothing was being copies. So now every day, I check the server. And kill processes and restart. But this is not efficient. Anyone else experience this? Suggestions? Thanks, Tmuld.

by Guest Big Dog- 1 reply

I'm running Server 2008 on an older (P4 1.8gz, 1gig of RAM) PC (used in a lab environment only). I've tried VMWare, which seems to permanently disable autoplay/autorun. The system requirements for Virtual PC 2007 don't include Server 2008. Can anyone recommend an add-on virtualization software to be able to test other OS's?

Network share: What causes " ~ $files" temp files?
by Guest pez- 7 replies

We run 2000 server. We have a network share that all our users have Full Control for. They also have read, write and modify NTFS permissions. Why are temp files constantly being created on this share? It seems that if someone views a file even if they close it properly a temp file is sometimes created. I can not seem to reproduce this "action" on purpose. But if I monitor the folder new ~ $ or temp files are created every day or so. Any ideas?

Getting rid of all of the event ID 1023 errors in my applicationevent log
by Guest Edward Ray- 1 reply

Every 10 seconds my 64-bit Windows 2003 R2 SP2 domain controller logs an event ID 1023 error in the application event log. The error says "Windows cannot load extensible counter DLL xxxxx, the first DWORD in data section is the Windows error code." Where "xxxx" = Ugather, UGTHRSVC or MSSCNTRS Googled this error and found nothing except a blog frustration at not being able to find it. The perflib errors are piling up at the rate of three every 10 seconds. Does anyone know what this is and how to stop the error from appearing?

Moving a Terminal Server Licensing Server
by Guest DroolinDog- 3 replies

Hi all. Looking for a quick answer: I have a client with a Terminal Server with TS licensing installed on the TS itself. Because the TS is malfunctioning, we are replacing it, but before doing so we need to install TS Licensing on the domain controller and migrate the licenses. Can anyone tell me the easiest way to do this so as to ensure we don't lose the previously activated licenses? Thanks in advance! Jamie
