Remote Desktop Users group is missing on my server 2003 R2 running SP2... Any ideas on how to add it (shouldn't this group be available by default?) or work around the problem. I want to be able to access my server remotely for maintenance. Thanks, /Adde -- fantamejthisisgoodvarjedag

Question about mapping a shared folder
by Guest Marc S- 20 replies

When sharing a folder on a Windows 2003 Server, does the location of the actual folder matter? For example: If the folder called "data" is located on Server named DRSERVER on D:\Disaster Recovery Store\new\Data and has a "shared name" of "Data". So the actual folder is 3 levels down. Then would the mapped drive be just \\DRSERVER\Data ? (1) Does Windows just know to look at a root level to see all "shared folders"? (2) No matter where the folder is actually located, the UNC would always be \\servername\shared folder? Is there documentation on this anywhere? Thanks.

Windows Server 2008 - Service Pack 1 already?!
by Guest Mr. Benjamin Strauss- 4 replies

Having just installed Windows Server 2008 RTM I was surprised to find that the O/S already claims to be at Service Pack 1. A look at System Properties (right-click on Computer, select Properties -or- Control Panel/System) shows the following: Windows Server Standard Copyright 2007 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. Service Pack 1 In addition WMI returns the following O/S info: Caption: Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 Standard CSDVersion: Service Pack 1 I know there are a lot of folks who won't adopt a new O/S until SP1 comes out, but starting off with SP1 would be a pretty nervy marketing move.

Why do clents and my new E2k3 server that exists in the root forestmake requests to child dc's over TCP 3268, 389, & 88?

Why do clents and my new E2k3 server that exists in the root forestmake requests to child dc's over TCP 3268, 389, & 88? I have a root domain 'parent.com'. I have a child domain 'child.parent.com'. Lately I've been noticing on my router syslogs that some of my XP clients on parent.com have been hitting the child ADC over tcp 389 and 88. Also, a new E2k3 server I built on parent.com last week is hitting/receiving traffic over tcp 3268 & 389 to/from the child ADC. Shouldn't this traffic be directed to the parent.com ADC/GC? I've also noticed that the E2k3 server is sending Echo requests to the child ADC about every 10 mins. I've checked my 2 parent…

Problem with connecting to Windows Server 2003
by Guest Ashelon- 0 replies

Hi. I have a server running Win Server 2003, with domain and AD. Occassionally, internal users have been complaining that they cannot access the shared drive on the server. Whenever they try to access it as a mapped network drive (which previously worked) or from Network Neighbourhood, it prompts them for a username and password. Using the same credentials do not work because the login box will say "The username you typed is the same as the username you logged in with..." Logging out of windows and logging in again at the client PCs usually solve the problem, but not always. Whenever they come into the office in the morning, they usually can access the…

Excessive entries in Event Viewer!
by Guest sergei.sheinin@ru.nestle.com- 5 replies

Hi All, Our Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (SP2) logs this message with an interval of several (5-15) minutes: The description for Event ID ( 1 ) in Source ( Heartbeat_Sent ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Heartbeat_Sent. I am not a win admin expert, and (extensive) google research of the above did not turn up much. I was able to get some limited info on the use of AUXSO…

WinServer 2003 - Tired of italic font introduced with SP2

I am tired of *everything* being in italics in Windows Server 2003 SP2. As I access it through Remote Desktop, I cannot even use ClearType, so using apps strains my eyes more than necessary. Is there any way to get rid of it and use a normal font instead? Cheers ss.

Everything is in italics. How do I get all fonts back to normal ??
by Guest Synapse Syndrome- 9 replies

This is actually a problem I am having with Windows Server 2003, but I am sure that the solution is the same as XP. When I applied SP2 for Windows Server 2003, around this time last year, every font turned to italics - the Start Menu, context menus, all text in applications, Event Viewer, Device Manager, IIS Manager, all wizards and dialogue boxes, title bars, icons text, etc. Even the nearly all the text in websites when using IE7 or Firefox is in italics (it does not appear in italics in the rare cases where the CSS calls for 'normal'). The only thing that is not in italics is the Command Prompt. I have been using it for a year thinking that this w…

Hello, I am having a problems copying large files (500M backup file) from one server to another, I get the below messages. I also tried this test with large folders (+500M), sometimes they work and sometimes fail. If I ZIP the backup file it copies OK. Very strange. Error message on screen: "Network name no longer available" The following message appears in the Event Viewer: "Event ID: 3019 Description: The redirector failed to determine the connection type" The servers in question are Windows Server 2003 Std with SP2 and all patches through December 2007. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks Angelo
