New SBS 2003 R2 server does not respond to ping
by Guest PJ- 3 replies

I have just added a new SBS 2003 premium server to my exisiting 2003 server and have assigned the new server the DC role. Eveything seemed to be ok apart from GPO that doesn't work the old server and the clients are all expecting it to come from the old DC, so I ran dcdiag and it reported that the new SBS DC does not respond to ping and gave Win32 error 11010. I have checked and I cannot ping from the command line on any client. Everything else works fine on the new DC all help appreciated. Regards PJ

IP settings disappear
by Guest Kirk Lashbrook- 1 reply

Greetings, Freshly deployed server (Win2003-SP2 x64 Std). I'm having an issue where I set static IP settings for a NIC, hit OK and they are set correctly. Later when I re-open the NIC's properties, the IP settings are all showing as back to the default DHCP settings. IPConfig, registry and any WMI query or script all show the static IP information I entered is indeed being used by the NIC. Even after a reboot... static IP is in-use on the NIC, but open the network properties window of the NIC and it shows all set to DHCP. This post below describes the same issue, however their fix didn't apply. My path and system variables are correct. http://www.te…

Shared Fax
by Guest peerless- 6 replies

I am running the shared fax service on Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard. The environment includes 1 Windows 2003 Terminal Server and also about 50 Windows XP clients. When the clients fax from the desktop it ignores all dialing rules and uses whatever they enter. If they use an Outlook contact it too ignores the dialing rules set on the server. Is there a way to apply dialing rules to any fax sent through the server? I only ask because I need 9 to dial for a line and then 1 for any number dialed.

OS: Windows Server 2003 w/SP2 latest Hotfixes Mode: Running Terminal Servers in Application Mode Users: average about 40-50 users per server. Is there any documentation or tool that can take an access mask listed in an entry in the security.log and translated into meaningful informatation? We have enabled auditing for Files,Folders and subfolders starting at the root directory on down. We are seeing failures on access to files that users have read and execute access to. Below is a sample of entries we are seeing. Event Type: Failure Audit Event Source: Security Event Category: Object Access Event ID: 560 Date: 12/28/2007 Time: 6:36:04 AM U…

Hello, I am running a scheduled NT backup nightly job on two data partitions. I am getting a very intermittent error that has become increasingly more apparent. I am backing up to a USB 2.0 external drive on a file share attached to another server on our network. I get this error in the NT backup log: Error: E: is not a valid drive, or you do not have access. Error: An inconsistency was encountered in the requested backup file. Error: F: is not a valid drive, or you do not have access. ---------------------- The operation did not successfully complete. ---------------------- Can someone please advise me what I can do to fix this issue? -- …

Any network performance impact by MSMQ
by Guest Bobson- 0 replies

hi all, THank you for your help in advance. I am not familliar with MSMQ. But I just found out there was a MSMQ with AD Integration installed by a third party program product support. In fact, before finding this happen, there have been some strange things happening. Some of the PCs were freezing (or slow) for couple minutes some times a week. Besides, when the only a promary DC rebooted, the client lost the domain connection (but we have a secondary one running), which this never happened before. Any ideas or inputs? Thank you for your help!

SysLog Server

Could someone please recommend a SysLog Server application? We are in need of capturing logs from Cisco PiX firewall and a few other Windows Hosts for Auditing purposes (no daily monitoring). I understand there are some good freeware Linux based solutions but I am looking for a decent Windows based solution. Even if it is not free (inexpensive is good). Thank you.

Staggering Difference in Network Performance??
by Guest Bryan L- 3 replies

I just tried to transfer a 500MB file from a server to my workstation. Since I was already TS'd into my server I mapped a drive on the server to my workstation (since I do this sort of thing fairly often) and started the copy operation to "push" the file down to my worksation. Performance seemed very slow to me -- after chugging away for a couple of minutes, the transfer was still only 1/2 done -- so I decided to try "pulling" the file to my workstation rather than pushing it from the server. The whole transfer took less than 10 seconds. Why should there be such a performance difference in transfer speed? Would the drive mapping have anything to do wi…
