Shadow copy
by Guest Ray234- 0 replies

We have used the shadow copy feature for years, and it is very helpful. Lately, though, it has been failing once or twice a week. I've researched the errors online, but can't find the right fix. The errors I'm getting are: (1) "When preparing a new volume shadow copy for volume D:, the shadow copy storage on D: could not be located in non-critical space. Consider using a shadow copy storage volume that does not have any shadow copies.", (2) "There was insufficient disk space on volume D: to grow the shadow copy storage for shadow copies of D:. As a result of this failure all shadow copies of volume D: are at risk of being deleted." and (3) "The shadow…

Client print driver not installing
by Guest Ken Y.- 1 reply

All, Have a very strange problem. First, we use all HP printers at our locations. A few months back, we udated the drivers for all of our printers for Vista compatibility. After doing this, we are having issues at only 1 of our 10 office locations. The problem is that the printer driver is not being pulled from the server or if it is it isn't being loaded or installed properly on the client. Client printers are mapped via a vbscript. After a user logs in and the script runs, they can't print to either an HP 4200 LJ or a CLJ 4650 both of which are using PCL5 drivers. Instead it prints to the defualt printer. If I then go to the printer and selec…

by Guest Goofylox- 1 reply

Hi all, Can anyone please advise how I can delete a predefined option (global) that I have just created? DHCP server is a windows 2003 box and I created an option for PXEClient but set the value as byte rather than string. I just want to remove this new optiion but I don't know how to. When I go in to delete it, (select dhcpserver\click Action menu\Set predetermined options\Select option 60) the delete button is disabled. The only way I can delete anything is if I change the OPtion class to anything other than 'dhcp standard options' Does anyone know how I can go about deleting this option as I need to reset it from byte to string? Please email m…

"Remote Downlevel Document" on Net Printers
by Guest Groupex1- 0 replies

I'm using Windows 2003 SP2 r2 for a print server hosting about 30 net printers. Recently I noticed a document called "Remote Downlevel Document" in the print queue ramdomly showing up on all printer queues, but it won't print anything it just keeps showing up after a user prints to any of the networked printers. I have search the net to find out what it is and I've found everything from that is virus to printer connected locally on the print server via LPT1. We have antivirus installed on the server and all XP clients and none of them show any virus found, nor we have any of the net printers locally connected to the print server. Could you guys help or p…

RRAS NIC Knocking Out Local Access

I'm running a VPN using Routing and Remote Access on a SBS 2003 Server. It has worked fine for months. Today local users weren't able to access the server unless the RRAS NIC was disabled. Users connected through the VPN could still access the server without any issues. No new software or updates have been installed. I'm kind of puzzled. How do I fix it?

Windows Server 2003 SetForegroundWindow
by Guest chiba1- 0 replies

I'm using Windows Server 2003 as a server and Windows XP as a client. On both of them I'm creating an event to SetForegroundWindow on another machine. It works from Server 2003 to XP but doesn't work from XP to Server 2003. I tried a combination of many functions. Is there a way to SetForegroundWindow on Server 2003 or it is not allowed by design? Thanks.

Vista Profile damaged with Windows 2003 delprof.exe
by Guest Bob- 4 replies

I discovered today that the Windows 2003 Resource Kit Tool "DelProf.exe" will fail to properly delete Vista user profiles and will display message "Failed - Access is denied". The tool will however delete the users profile found at C:\Users, but it fails to delete the corresponding registry key at HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-21 This results in the following message when the Vista user attempts to log on: "Your user profile was not loaded correctly. You have been logged on with a temporary profile". And this of course results in the user loosing access to their Documents and Desktop. I found this out the ha…

Batch file to Safely Remove Hardware and then Log Off
by Guest Conan Kelly- 1 reply

Hello all, I have a co-worker that forgets to run Safely Remove Hardware to stop her iPod before she logs off at the end of the day, so then she logs back on to stop her iPod and then logs off again. I was going to create a 2-line batch file that would first run Safely Remove Hardware and then log her off. I already know the command prompts to accomplish both task, but I have 2 questions concerning this: 1. In this batch file, if I first run Safely Remove Hardware, will Log Off run immediately after that, or will the batch file pause and wait for the user to finish with and close Safely Remove Hardware and then run Log Off? If it will not automati…

we always set our users my document folders to be redirected to a file server (in this case windows 2000 server) and their XP Pro PCs are set to use offline folders. so in theory when the server is unavailable they scan still work on their files. I use this all the time on my laptop so I can take it home and work on my files without having to dial in to work. well the file server crashed, and some users are getting an error when trying to access the files offline, they are getting "document name or path is not valid" they cannot sync with the server, since the server is dead. if you try to view their offline files by clicking on the icon, some users …

Hey guys, I want to share some folders over the network by using the File Sharing utility built-in Windows. However, my Win2K3 doesn't show the 'Sharing' tab in when I right-click on a targeted folder. I know that it can be simple turn off and on in Windows XP by un/checking the 'Use Simple File Sharing...' option in Folder Options but Win2K3 doesn't have the option. Is there anyway for me to enable it (to show it)?

Over the weekend we had 3 servers with non-response behavior. We can ping it, but are unable to make contact using rdp or other management software. When we approach the servers the is only a blank screen and the only solution is to do a hard reset. When we look at the event log the the one thing that is the same on all three servers is this event id: Event Type: Error Event Source: Service Control Manager Event Category: None Event ID: 7011 Date: 19.11.2007 Time: 00:36:44 User: N/A Computer: ERFS01 Description: Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for a transaction response from the NtFrs service.
