Folder Redirection
by Guest Julian- 2 replies
Hi I've managed to do something a bit silly! Basically I redirected everyone's folders (My Documents, Appplication Data, etc) to a new location based on the user profile (i.e. \\server\%username%\My Documents, etc). Unfortunately the administrator account (which is renamed) was also included and I am having trouble logging on (it takes an age and gives an error). How can I exclude the administrator account from the re-direction without too much disruption? Cheers, Julian

NetBIOS name doesn't work when joining a workstation to domain
by Guest Umma Gumma- 8 replies

I've done a few searches in the past on this and have found the opposite of the problem I'm having: When I attempt to join an XP SP2 workstation to our domain using its NetBIOS name, the process times out and a message comes up. Something to the effect of the domain cannot be located. If I use the FQDN instead, the domain can be contacted and I get prompted for the credentials to join the workstation. This is also a FQDN for a child domain: child.parent.com Not sure if it makes a difference or not but I'm throwing in as many details as possible. If anyone has run into this problem and has found a solution or suggestions, I would greatly appreciate i…

Plug and Play and Server Service Error
by Guest E2 Services- 1 reply

2 new errors have started appearing on my server the last couple of days. Nothing has changed but the 2 errors are: 1) Event ID: 2510 Server Service (The server service was unable to map error code 998) - on restart 2) Event ID: 257 PlugPlayManager Service (Timed out sending notification of target device change to window of "C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE") - occurs once a day and requires a restart to clear. This is on a Windows 2003 R2 Standard SP2. Internet searches seem to indicate a Symantec product causing problem and there is Symantec Endpoint client installed. Anyone else run across this kind of problem?

Remote Logon
by Guest Laura- 1 reply

I created a user in AD and made them a member of the "Remote Desktop Users" and also added them into the servers remote admin tab. I ran secpol.msc and added the user and remote desktop users group into the security policy to allow remote logons and allow remote logon using terminal services. Now the user can logon but as soon as I hit enter I receive a message about the user needing administrative rights/privileges???? Does a user have to be admin?? I just want them to run a program on the server and logoff, I don't want to give them admin rights, I gave them backup operators and account operators because all they are doing is running a ghostcast serve…

Attempted to open LSA policy...?
by Guest Brock Hensley- 0 replies

I am curious as to what exactly this event means. It seems every server I log into that has experienced unexpected shutdowns for one reason or another there is a good chance the following error is logged: ================================= Source: LsaSrv Event ID: 6033 An anonymous session connected from DESTRUCTOR has attempted to open an LSA policy handle on this machine. The attempt was rejected with STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED to prevent leaking security sensitive information to the anonymous caller. The application that made this attempt needs to be fixed. Please contact the application vendor. As a temporary workaround, this security measure can be disab…

by Guest JT in VN- 3 replies

A user X on our domain can not rotate a thumbnail from our file server. The user X has full control permission to this file. The owner of the file is user X. The administrator account can successfully rotate. Why can't the user rotate the thumbnail? The message comes up "You cannot rotate this image. The file might be in use or open in another program, or the file or folder might be read-only"

W2K3 WORKGROUP share permissions problem
by Guest dubh@vodafone.ie- 1 reply

I've set up a lab to do some basic testing involving moving shares to AD. On the stand-alone (workgroup) server I've set up some shares with various permissions. The permissions need to satisfy the following criteria: 1. allow only read access to members of certain groups. 2. allow read and write access to members of certain groups. 3. allow full-control to members of certain groups to any files or folders they create within a specified share. Steps 1 and 2 work fine (as they shoud); however, I cannot get a user belonging to the 3rd group to control access etc to any folders he creaes on a share. I've tried every possible combination of Share Permissions an…

Hi I established a new authoritative time server on my network - it is synching with an external source properly Example Previous time server/PDC - DC1 DC2 gets promoted to PDS/authoritative time server DC3 is still looking to DC1 for time even after changing the Windows time service config on the previous PDC emulator Event ID 35 The time service is now synchronizing the system time with the time source dc1.abc.com (ntp.d|192.168.1.37:123->192.168.1.7:123). Any ideas?

Strange printer issue
by Guest Dave- 1 reply

Hello all, We have a Windows Server 2003 print server connected to a Printronix L7032, which is a laser pin feed printer. When a large number of small in size print jobs are sent to it it prints 9 jobs, pauses 13 seconds and then prints the next 9, pauses. This continues until the queue is empty. As a temporary work around we have connected a HP JetDirect between the print server and the printer, with the JetDirect installed the printer behaves as we would expect: printing the entire queue without pausing. Does anyone have an idea on what might be causing this behavior? Thank you very much for any help you can give!!!! Dave Schaeffer

Major help needed
by Guest athos_01- 4 replies

I am the tech person for a small k-12 school. Above average experience, but have gotten myself into a big situation. I have a small domain of windows 2003 servers. One server I have had running for several years, but started flaking out. I removed all of it's roles to another DC, except Global Catalog. I added another machine as GC and just left it that way. Now what has happened is that the original server has had major issues, so far as not even being able to log into it, so I assumed everything was gone, so I took it offline never to be returned. If I couldn't log into it, I couldn't demote it so I tried to go through ASDI Edit and removed the server …
