Disk volume indicated "At Risk" with yellow triangle
by Guest Irby- 0 replies

In server 2003, under disk management on one of the volumes there is a little yellow triangle, and the disk states it's 'at risk'. This is a SAN volume attached to the server. What is this and what should we do to resolved this issue? When you right click the volume the options are to re-activate the disk. Any ideas as to what to do? Thanks, David

Windows Server 2003 SP2 Recovery Console Installation Problem
by Guest Robert Lindholm- 0 replies
Hello: When trying to install the Recovery Console from the original Windows Server 2003 [standard Edition] media onto a machine that is now at SP2, I receive the following setup error message: "Setup cannot continue because the current version of Windows on your computer is newer then the version on your CD." While it would have been preferable to have installed the Recovery Console during the initial setup, I would like to have the Recovery Console installed on this machine prior to any future disaster. While I understand that you can envoke the Recovery Console retroactively from the install media, I don't have a high level of confidence that th…

kerbtray.exe shows workstations listed on a DC server.. is thisnormal?
by Guest markm75c@gmail.com- 0 replies

I had had some kerberos errors previously due to DNS having two machine names with the same IP address (i think).. so i deleted those duplicate entries to try to fix things.. Then stumbled onto this tool to look at the kerberos tickets.. But i notice 2-3 workstation names appearing in here.. is there a reason why this would be? I'm not 100% up on kerberos ticketing etc.. Thanks

scheduled task woes
by Guest Thomas R. Hart II- 3 replies

Hello everybody. I'm having an issue with scheduled tasks that I can't seem to put my finger on. I have a task set up (I've set this up both through the gui and the command line btw, just to test) that runs a file C:\pg_backup.bat (right now the file is blank, no commands), with a working directory of C:\. I've tried fixing some of the common pitfalls (not running it from a mapped drive, make sure the runas user has logon as a batch job rights in local security settings) yet every time I try to run this job (right clicking on it and selecting run) it fails and returns an error code of 0x01 (according to a microsoft support article (http://support.microso…

Win 2003 Server, R2, SP1
by Guest Bob in OK- 0 replies

A client of mine tried to apply SP2 and hit a drive space error part way through and had to stop. He didn't screen shot the error so I don't know exactly what it said. If the update process didn't complete shouldn't it have rolled back to the prior state before starting the update? It appears that that ditn't happen as we are having issues with the server being slow and applications won't open and nothing will install - throwing permissions errors - even when logged in as Administrator. Add and Remove programs won't load the list so we can attampt an uninstall of SP2. What are our options - is there another way to remove it?

Feature Request: Print Quotas
by Guest Jeff Patton- 0 replies
We have the ability to quota file usage on a server, which some may recall used to be a separate download, why don't we have the ability to quota print usage? I'm not talking some full-featured, do everything for me type of tool, I'm thinking something that will give me some simple statistics: - # of people printing to a given printer - who prints the most - limit printing based on user account/ownership I've searched Microsoft's site, and it's possible I'm just not seeing it, if that is the case, someone please point me the right way. Thanks,

File locking
by Guest Brendon B- 0 replies

Hi Everyone Over the passed few days I have had weird problems with some of our standard NTBackups running on our Windows 2003 Servers. For some reason the destination file which is meant to be overwritten says it is in use and you are unable to delete it. I have disabled antivirus even though the patch is excluded. How can I find out what is locking the file? I can't keep on rebooting each time to correct this. Your help is much appreciated

Having MAC OSx authenthicate against AD
by Guest Joe- 2 replies
Hey I have a question, there has been some talk here about getting iMACs, so trying to stay one step ahead, and as much as I think Apple does a good job with their OS's, they fall short when it comes to allowing seamless intergration. The growing concern on my part is the Authenthication of users. I know the work around is to change the AD schema so that authenthicatino is not encrypted.. I was hoping to have an easier workaround. Any ideas?

Ping packets during AD domain login?
by Guest Banks1850- 2 replies

I was sniffing some login info because we have a gimpy server that takes forever to log in, and we noticed that it was pinging the login server during the domain login attempt, so I checked with a few other machines, I couldn't confirm though via any documentation online or in print, can someone confirm that windows is suppose to ping the login server during the domain login process in a mixed w2k w2k3 AD environment?

Switching from Roaming Profiles to Folder Redirection
by Guest Zack- 1 reply
Currently most users have a set roaming profile and home folder in Active Directory. We have been having a lot of problems with roaming profiles especially when used with Terminal Services. We're wanting to switch over to just using Folder Redirection for the MyDocuments folder since that is the the only thing that really needs to be available at multiple PC's and also available via Terminal Services. I have GPO set to a test OU that sets folder redirection. This works fine for users who have a local profile and their MyDocuments is stored locally. However for users who are already using Roaming user profiles it doesn't move their MyDocuments folder a…

32 bit print drivers keep updating on every printer access
by Guest Brad Overstreet- 4 replies
We recently installed a 64 bit file and print cluster. On the print spooler I have both 32 bit and 64 bit drivers for each printer loaded. On all of my 32 bit clients (XP SP2), they download drivers causing Event ID 20 to be logged each and every time they access a printer. I have also noticed that if I am looking at the properties for printer A that it will download drivers for printer A, B and C. This is causing quite a bit of lag when accessing the printers and is particularly noticable for our wireless network users. Does anyone have any idea where to begin looking for an answer to this? I have seen several items posted on the web for this but no…

Clients behind win2k3 box can't FTP
by Guest Truppenzwei- 2 replies

Hi I have a system whereby I have a Windows 2003 R2 box which sits behind an ADSL router and in turn has PC's sitting behind it. It has two NIC, one being the WAN which connects to the router and the other being the LAN which the client PC's connect through. Basically while I am able to connect to FTP servers from the server, none of the client PC's are able to connect to any FTP server. They are able to browse the internet, email etc fine, it is just FTP that doesn't seem to work. They are able to connect to the FTP server and then they consistently disconnect after it sends the the username. The client PCs are a blend of Vista Business and XP Pro …

Locally cached profiles deleted after samba to w2k3-server migration
by Guest anonymous- 0 replies
Hi folks, anybody seen the phenomenon, that (after migrating from a samba DC to an Windows 2003 server DC the locally cached roaming profiles are _always_ deleted? The behaviour is not influenced by explicitely disabling the policy to delete locally cached user-profiles. The local GPO is also not configured - and if it experimentally is - it has no influence, too. The idea that it has something to do with our migration came to my mind, when setting up a new PC that hat never seen the old domain but was integrated in the new domain. The only thing that was set that time (when integrating into _old_ domain) was the local GPO under (correspondigly) "compute…
