We have a Windows 2003 server. The server is running IIS. The server joined the workgroup. We would like to join this server to a different workgroup. Will anything affect IIS if we join this server to a different workgroup? Does it affect the server in anyway if we join this server to a different workgroup. Thanks. Diane

DEP shuts down Microsoft MDB Store
by Guest Adam V.- 1 reply

I am running Exchange Server 2003 on a Windows Server 2003 machine. When I reboot the server, I get a Data Execution Prevention message that says "to help protect my computer, Windows has closed this program: Microsoft MDB Store" I went into the DEP settings and checked the box next to MDB Store, so that it would stop closing the program, however I'm still having a problem with Exchange in that the information store keeps shutting down. Any idea why the Data Execution Prevention tool would be shutting down the Microsoft MDB Store. It never did this before. Thanks for any help you can provide. Adam V.

Mutliple Domains for Web and Email
by Guest celticmcse- 2 replies
I have never had to manage more than one domain in any version of Windows Server, so please forgive my ignorance... I have a client who wants to create multiple web domains with multiple corresponding email domains. e.g. abc.com 123.com xyz.net 789.net These are subsidiaries of the parent company. Each will have its own web site and employees will login remotely to OWA for email. If this can be done easilly using Windows Server, can you point me in the direction of the best docs? Also, why would I use Windows Server to do all this rather than a product like CPanel? http://www.cpanel.net/index.html Thanks in advance for your input!

Error Code 8: 0x8007000e Windows Product Activation
by Guest thrombotic@gmail.com- 7 replies
For the past week I started getting the following error. Event ID 1000 Error occurred while wizard was checking the current windows product license. Error Code: 8 0x8007000e. This server has been going strong for 4 years, it currently hosts our website. It has not lost functionality. I have noticed that the page file is up to 2.1 GB and winlogon.exe is running at 491mb. I'm worried that if I reboot the server, it will not be operational because it can't check the product license. We have a hosted web application that we cannot afford to go down for several days. Any thoughts, one way or the other whether I should just reboot? Thx RG

LSASS.exe Issues
by Guest Lee Croucher- 1 reply

When booting Windows 2003 just **BEFORE** the login screen you get the error.. LSASS.EXE: When trying to update a password the return status indicates that the value provided as the current password is not correct. I think this is related to the registry being corrupt however none of the support articles are for Server 2003, I have tried to follow the support articles but the server does not boot up if you follow the Windows XP guides... Any ideas....? Many thanks in advanced Lee Croucher

Shared Printer Driver
by Guest TVITBRIAN- 1 reply

Okay here's a run down of the situation. Got a Server 2003 domain. Got 3 servers, 2 are domain controllers. One of the domain controllers runs Server 2003 Standard SP2 the other R2. The one running Standard lets call "labserver" the one running r2 lets call "server2003". labserver shares out all the printers. Server2003 pushes the printers to the machines via group policy and print management(feature of R2). This is a school. There are several labs. All the students use a mandatory profile. All the lab machines are cloned exactly alike. Here's my problem. Sometimes when the students try to print it says that the printers aren't installed correctly. Basical…

Possible mail server switch
by Guest Gretchen Hembree- 3 replies

I know this isn't the right board for this question, but I wasn't sure where else to go! I am looking for an expert opinion. I have a company of about 30 users who each have two email addresses. For the last several years we have hosted our own internal email with an MDeamon mail server software. That is currently on a Windows Server 2003 OS. Once the mail is checked it is moved and stored on another server that is running Windows Server 2000 and Exchange 2000. Due to a variety of reasons including occasional MDaemon anti-virus file corruption and the desire to check email remotely, I am considering a switch to an external hosting service with POP …

too strict on min disk free alarm? (5%/300GB drive)
by Guest Name withheld by request- 4 replies

This is a filesystem question, but I could not find an appropriate newsgroup - pls suggest one, thx. We have an appliaction owner that claims our corporate standard of telephoning them at all hours day or night, when the disk is more that 95% full is out-dated for any drive that is over 100GB or so. He argues that the filesystem (NTFS) on his server's 300GB drive can still operate efficiently when it is 97 or 98% full. Is this correct? Can someone give a good argument for keeping at least 5% or more free disk space, even when 5% may be many GB, or is this out of date thinking? This is on a SAN, so we never defrag it, the EMC SAN has it's own approach…

Hi We're setting up wireless and using a RADIUS server. We've come to the thorny issue of trying to automatically push out a certificate. I've created the certificate which is a duplicate of the user template, but when I go into the certification authority snap in, it doesn't appear in the last to add for enrollment? Anyone shed any light on this or need more information? Thanks

Help with Server recover
by Guest edg- 4 replies

I got a new computer and I used the backup feature in Server 2008 to backup the server to a USB portable hard drive, but when I try to restore it would not allow me to use the USB drive so I transferred the backup file to the computer and I still don't have the option of selecting the backup file and I've tried everything; it's only giving me 2 options, the CD drive and Remote shared folder. I would like to know if there is a way around this problem and if not can I just extract what I really need from the backup file? Any help much appreciated. Thanks

Server 2008: Shared or concurrent remote desktop access
by Guest Tech_vs_Life- 10 replies

I see that the -console tag has no effect any more, with Server 2008. Is there any way at all with Windows Server 2008's remote desktop (or other bundled program) to get a shared session, i.e. for the remote user and the local user to both be able to see and share the same session? (as with most "remote control" programs, like pcanywhere). If not, what remote programs are compatible with Server 2008. thanks.

Server fails repeatedly after 2003 SP2 installation
by Guest Veijalainen Juha- 0 replies

After installing SP2 on Windows Server 2003 standard SP1, server fails every five days. I have not found out why. I'd like to hear any suggestions you have on solving this problem. Visible effect is that new applications/processes cannot be started (Application failed to initialize properly). Applications already running work usually fine. Server is sluggish, and usually cannot be restarted or shut down normally (power off is required). Event log shows that problems have started earlier. Latest failure shows first an event id 1501 from SNMP (System Log), id 2012 PerfOs "Unable to get process info from system" (Appl Log), id 10010 DCOM "..did not regis…

by Guest Mark D- 0 replies

Hello, I have dual honed windows server 2003 Standard SP2. The server is joined to a Domain, there is a DNS server in the domain, and DHCP is configured on the server with an active scope. I have installed WDS, but when I try to start the WDS server I get the following error: "The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion". I then checked to see if Trivial FTP Daemon was running... and of course it isn't. So I tried starting the service manually, and I get the following error: "Could not start the Trivial FTP Daemon service on Local Computer. Error 11004: The requested name is invalid, but no data of the requested typ…
