Can't run MMCs

Hello, I cannot launch any MMCs from the command prompt, run box, or by going into the system32 folder. Everytime I try I get the following error box. "Current policies prevent instances of MMC invoced from scrips from opening in author mode" Does anybody know how I can change this? I cannot even open them as the Administrator account. Thanks

Hi there I can't seem to find how to install internet explorer 7 via OCSetup, on server 2008. OCList doen't bring up anything. I need ie7 for exchange 2007. Is there a offline installer avaliable, I know there is for ie6. Would prefer to install from server 2008 cd if poss. Thanks in advance

Domain change and orphaned digital signatures

Due to a company merger we have to change our domain; all servers, no exceptions. We have been using the Certificate Authority to create digital signature-enabled authorizations on a huge number of change forms (PDFs) for the past year. Our fear is that there will be no way to prove the authenticity of these signatures after the domain change, as the CA will be under the new domain, essencially a different CA. Any creative ideas on how to prove the authentication after the domain change will be very appreaciated.

Permissions required to manage remote computer

When logging onto a server I am able to access computer management and view the event viwer, services etc. however, if I try to connect to another server from the computer management mmc, the computer management 'tree' is displayed but if I try to access any of the branches such as event viwer or services I get an 'Access Denied' error message. The account is not a domain admin (which does work) . This account worked when the servers were windows 2000. Can anybody please advise on a possible cause for this? Does the account need to be a member of domain admins to do this or maybe another group? any suggestions appreciated Karl

I have been trying to get a scheduled task to run that I made using schtasks for the 40 computers on our network. Here's my problem: If I leave the user info blank (let the task assume the credentials of the person logged in) the task doesn't run - and then I don't know if the computer is logged off (which it will be) if this method would allow the task to run. If I use the System account's credentials the task doesn't run If I use the domain admin account's credentials the task doesn't run. The task sets up and configures exactly as I expect. I will then physically go to one of the computers, log in as the user of that PC and right click and Run the…

setting NTP time source for all domain controllers

If I set my PDC operations master to point to an external NTP server will all domain controllers automatically sync their time with the PDC operations master? Is this automatic because I have domain controllers that point to time.windows.com and their type is NT5DS. If I just leave those settings in the registry for the other domain controllers will it just ignore them and sync their time with the operations master?

Hi, I just tried installing Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 from download notifications and the installer looks to get pretty much near the end and then fails with a generic message. I couldn't see anything in the event logs illustrating what the problem was... where can I find the logs? TIA

All, I have a problem with RIS and the built-in Nvidia nForce Network Controller card. I have a 2003 RIS server that had been working great for a few years. Just recently got new CPUs that require a different RIS image. This is where the fun begins.. I am able to initiate the RIS setup and run the text mode setup of WinXP as normal. RIS detectes my Nvidia network controller at this point and allows the file copy + text mode setup to complete. However, once it goes into the GUI mode setup and attempts to join my domain (via the .SIF answer file) it fails. Good Day, We are running Windows 2003 SP1 servers and I am slowly getting ready to upgrade these servers to SP2. After doing a lot of updating to get ready to update firmware and backup software as our current backup software is not supported on SP2 so I had to load .NET 2.0 on the servers to support the new backup software, I came across the read me file that states that if you have installed .Net 2.0 you need to run the update from the windows update site so that it will support the .net 2.0. Is this still true? Are there any other little gotcha that anybody can share Thanks in advance Adam Raff

So, i have a network with 3 PC on windows Vista and 1 server in win 2003 R2 standard. Evrythink was Ok ! I have a server (Windows Server 2003 Standard) and I am trying to run a tool called "poolmon.exe". However it does not seem to exist natively so I went to install the server 2003 admin pack found at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c16ae515-c8f4-47ef-a1e4-a8dcbacff8e3&displaylang=en thinking it might also have that tool. When i go to install that admin pack from the precious link it tells me it can only be installed on XP machines, and Server 2003 machines...... which it is. At this point I am at a bit of a loss as to where this poolmon.exe is supposed to be as well as how to install this admin pack? Any ideas anyone?

Hi All, We recently upgraded a windows 2000 server to Windows 2003 enterprise edition server, it was a fresh installation. We created all the shares which existed and gave permissions, and user started working on it for the last 2 days, yesterday we gave windows update and updated the server using express update, so almost everything got updated. This server is a member server in a AD domain, users are grouped this way. Two groups H1 and H2 were created in "Tai2d/built" OU and all users were placed in respective groups according to their privileges. I upgraded Windows Server 2008 x64 with the RC0 Hyper-V KB949219. After restart it hangs at: Configuring updates: Stage 3 of 3 - 54% complete Do not turn off your computer Have tried two times on two machines and it hangs always at 54% than you can wait for hours and it will not go father. We have Windows 2008 64bit Enterprise running on HP DL380. It run perfectly. We add Hyper-V role, restarted it and after restart we run KB949219 update and than after restart it hangs at 54%.
