On W2K Server you had to configure the registry to allow null sessions in order for a program or local service account on another computer in to access a shared folder. How is this accomplished on Windoes 2003 server? Do you configure the share to allow anonymous logins?

255 character path
by Guest mich- 1 reply

With the 255 character path plus file name limit is there any plug in or software that will allow a network admin. to search for all files that violate the limit? The server will allow you to create a file that violates the limit, but then you cannot rename the file, or access it without renaming the above folders to a shorter name to get under the limit. I'd like to smoke out all of these violations and address them at once instead of stumbling across them one at a time. I have made the users aware of the limit, but we all know that doesn't stop them from doing it again and again. Thanks!

Hi all I've got over the initial problem ... sort of I used the Dell Server Install CD to load the OS and accidentally chose PerUser licencing Now I have reinstalled with Per Server The buttons are NOT greyed out to add a new licences BUT when I click Add Licences is says it cannot find the licence server ? How does a user simply add some more licences to a standalone server ? Why is there a need for a licence server ? what does it do in this context ? Thanks in advance Andrew

by Guest Kappa- 2 replies

This might be a very novice question, but I'm just saving myself buying a new machine to do some learning on my own where I have Windows Server 2003 and some clients. Problem is I have only one PC at the moment. I plan to install Windows Server 2003 on VMWare Server on my PC which is running XP Pro. Can XP Pro serve as a client of Server 2003 (which is running on VMWare)?

Can Disk Quota Warning Reports Include Different Definitions
by Guest Scott- 0 replies
Using R2 SP2 with disk quotas, when reports of large files and least accessed files are sent to users who hit the warning threshold, can the defaults of 5.00 MB and 90 days be changed? I would like to use 20 MB and 365 days. If so, how. They don't appear to be configurable within the File Server Resource Manager interface.

Cannot connect to domain
by Guest Wabos- 3 replies
Wierd problem. Had a power failure, after which one on the workstations gets the message "Cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable, or because the computer account was not found". Have rebooted server, router, hubs, etc with no success. Obviously no settings were changed and the computer in question is still listed in the domain so not sure where to look. The computer can access the internet so feel that the issue is not 'network' related but am at a loss. Thanks!

Server failing and rebooting
by Guest Jamie- 3 replies

I made a post already about this problem but it will not allow me to post replies on the updated situation so I will start again: I have a windows small business sever 2003 service pack 2 that is rebooting almost daily. It reboots around 5-6am almost every morning. There is no backups or scheduled tasks running at this time or user activity. The server would be at its least active time. The UPS logs show nothing strange but the problem has only been occuring the last month or so. All that is recorded in the event viewer is: Event ID: 1076 The reason supplied by user DOMAIN\Administrator for the last unexpected shutdown of this computer is: Syste…
