Using Office 2007 with redirected folders
by Guest joeB545- 7 replies

Am using redirected folders and roaming profiles for our Win 2003 domain and Office 2007 running on Win XP SP2 clients. My Documents is redirected to the share \\Server\Users\%username%\My Documents. The Open File dialog opens and immediately closes when I press Ctrl + O in Word and Excel; both crash when I attempt to save a new document. Other programs do not exhibit this behavior and I do not have the problems with Office when I am logged on as Administrator. How can I fix this problem? -- joe B

I'd like to know if Windows Server 2008's TS Gateway functionality can be used to allow a remote user to connect to an XP or Vista client (their desktop) on the internal network? I can only find references to connecting to a Terminal Server. This functionality, for example, is currently available in SBS 2003. Kevin

I'd suggest putting files like this in a folder to which only a small group of users has anything beyond Reviewer access Also, this is a group for SBS2003 - your issue isn't really relevant to SBS specifically, even if this is a server in your SBS2003 domain. I'm setting up my reply to crosspost to microsoft.…

Windows installer error
by Guest Allen- 0 replies

I have a Windows 2003 x64 with SP2 installed that has recently become unable to run the windows installer. So far I have found 2 applications that cause the following error to display: "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance." I have tried to follow the MS KB steps to uninstall and reinstall the installer, but the only Windows Installer download that I can find for x64 Windows is for pre-SP2 and I get an error when I try to run it. What to do?

Administrative priviledge
by Guest topokin- 6 replies

I need to resolve the following administrative priviledges. 1) Group of helpdesk users should have administrative priviledge on members servers in the domain. The priviledge should permit them being able to administer everything on these systems, including Event-viewer, services and schedules. 2) A particular service account should only be able to add new system (clients and member servers) into the domain. I looked through delegation but could not find how to configured these priviledges. There are Account, Printer, and Server operators groups in the Builtin container. Do these group have domain wide priviledges or the priviledges are only limit…

Simple Internet setup for SBS 2003?
by Guest Pheasant PluckerĀ®- 4 replies

Hi there, About 3 years ago I dabbled with SBS 2003 on a new (cheap) Dell Poweredge Dual Xeon box to replace an aging NT4 server in my home network. Shortly after I decided that a fully fledged Domain server was overkill and decided to remove it. My home network of up to 7 PC's has functioned well but I now want to press the Dell back into service. It has 2 network cards (Server LAN Connection & Network Connection) and static IP addresses preset and booted up as expected. I do not want to go back to a Domain Client/Server setup but just want to sit it on my home network to run a couple of things such as CCTV, storage & backups etc. I want t…

Hi everyone, i wonder if anyone can help me with a problem i have with TS on windows server 2003. What i want to find out is if it is possible to change the behavior when a second user tries to connect to the server when one user is already logged on. The box is limited to 1 login, but the problem is 2 or 3 people administer the same box, and frequently log you off when your doing something by connecting at the same time. Does anyone know if it is possible to stop this behavior, or show some warning to the logged in user before allowing someone else to connect and effectively kick you off! Any help much appreciated :)

Hi, I have a server box in a webhosting company. This server is used to host our websites(two asp.net applications currently). In the web applications, a simple email function is needed to send emails to the administrator of the apps. The administrator's email address should be like this: admin@applicationdomain.com. Thus, I need to create a few email accounts for retrieving emails from the web apps or any senders and sending emails from Outlook Express. My questions are: 1). Can this be done without installing Exchange Server? Or SMTP and Mail Server POP3 will do it? 2). If Exchange Server is not needed, what are the incoming mail server and outgoing s…
