I have a Windows 2003 server that I am trying to run an executable file on from a network share but keep getting an error that the network path is not available or incorrect permissions. I am logged in as a domain admin. Strangely enough if I log on locally to the pc (not the domain) and connect to the network share, supplying username and password of domain admin when accessing share, I can run the executable. I noticed that the security settings for Internet are set to High and I cannot change this setting as there is no other option (ie medium high, medium, low, etc.) however the setting is the same when I log in locally and on the domain. I alread…

Only administrators can remotely access machine
by Guest angst911- 0 replies

We have a cluster running Enterprise r2 x64 server w. SQL 2005, the other night both servers in the cluster rebooted (not sure if that is relevant or not), and now only administrators can connect to the server via \\cluster or via SQL connections. We can not figure out what caused this other than the application log having filled up, we cleared it, and the problem persisted still, we ended up recovering the servers from a backup which resolved the problem, but I would apreciate any comments on thoughts of what could have caused the strange behavior.

Some of my users at a remote site get a Warning triangle and the following message “offline files [\\server01\mydocs on server01]: unable to make svdsdhghgddd fff.MDB available offline on \\server01\mydocs\jimbond\my documents\filing cabinet\careers. Files of this type cannot be made available offline.” The network manager has left and i now have to try and fix this problem. The users said they didn’t get the message before the server rebooted after a power cut. Unfortunately there was no ups on the server. The server is at a remote site it runs 2003 r2. If anyone can give me some suggestions i would be thankful. Ric_99

extremely long logon time for one particular user
by Guest Alan Truism- 9 replies

I have a problem with one particular user, in which whenever he tries to logon it takes around 20 minutes for the computer to complete the logon state. This seems to carry over to whatever workstation that particular user is using. If anyone else logs on to their workstation it takes the normal amount of time. It seems to hang quite a long time on the "applying personal settings" part of the logon process. Then I get the following errors in the event log for that particular workstation. - == Event Type: Error Event Source: Userenv Event Category: None Event ID: 1030 Date: 11/1/2007 Time: 11:14:35 AM User: domain-corp\fred Computer: CORP-CF-SPAR…

Hey guys, I've got an odd error I am experiencing on a Windows Server 2003 server. The problem only occurs under my own account. I am a Domain Admin. As any other Administrator or Domain Admin account I do not experience this error. The error always has the code 2203 and is similar to: Error 2203. An internal error has occurred. (M:\WINDOWS\Installer \399f2.ipi -2147024629 ) Contact Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) for assistance. I have checked the ACL on the temp folder and the Windows Installer folder and they're fine; although this is proven by the fact the other accounts work. The error occurs on ALL msi installers under m…

Workgroup computer accessing a Domain server??
by Guest Scott- 3 replies
Hi, I've just started playing with SBS 2003 and have setup a test server. Most of my network experience has been using just plain old workgroups so I'll apologize now for any dumb questions :-). Anyway, my question is this. I've got a few computers on my network that are all setup as a workgroup and the test sever is a domain. I've added usernames to the server for each of the workstations, shared a drive on the server and all the workstations seem to be able to access the share with no problems. Now, will there be any major issues accessing this server if I DON'T setup the workstations to be on the domain?? Thanks, Scott......

Joining a domain remoted via VPN
by Guest sailorfej- 3 replies

I have a interesting question, regarding joing new workstations to a Windows 2003 domain. I am setting up a new workstation for a client's network, I doing this at my offices, the network the workstation will eventually live on is at a different location. In order to complete the setup, I need to join the workstation to the Active Directory domain at the client site. In the past I have always just got as far as I could at my office, then spent a couple of hours finishing the setup at the client site after joining the domain locally . It would be a lot easier if I could join the computer to the domain remotely and compete the setup here, and then just tak…

I am running a server with Windows Server 2003 Standard. I have Active Directory setup as well as Terminal Services. I have 5 users who will be logging in through Terminal Services and I would like to limit what they can do. I know that this can be done with Group Policy but how can I set it up so that I can still log in through Terminal Services without having the restrictions applied to me?

Change Remote Desktop Port
by Guest DiFFeReNT- 9 replies

I've followed the instructions found all over the internet on how to change my remote desktop port via the registry, and it works great, over the network. All I have to do is ipaddress:3390. Unfortunately, this will not work over the internet. I have setup port forwarding for TCP (and UDP) port 3390 to forward to my computer, which has a static IP address, the same way that I have port 3389 successfully forwarded to another computer. I also manually opened the port 3390 on the Windows firewall. Remote desktop won't connect using the port 3390. When I run the port test at http://canyouseeme.org/, it says Error and Request Timed Out. Since my port forw…

Unable to Map a Drive from Win95/98
by Guest BearDoc- 2 replies

Hi I've just purchased and installed a new Windows 2003 File Server, and configure share drives. WinXP PCs are able to successfully map drive to this server. However Win98/95 cannot. It says "the computer or share name could not be found". I've tried to do net use x: \\Win2K3\shared and net ise x: \\ipaddress\shared. I've also tried to go to Network Neighbourhood, am able to see the server name but cannot access. I've got 2 other Windows 2003 File Server on the network and Win98/95 can map successfully. Is it due to some settings on this new Windows 20003? Would appreciate any help on this issue. Thank you.

Restored from image Can't find DC
by Guest Dale- 3 replies

Hi, I just restored a desktop from an image made of that machine about 2 months ago. the restore went fine but when I try to log in the users account I get the " Can't find Domain Controller" error. The DC is definitely there and this desktop happens to be plugged into the same switch the DC is in. DNS is functioning and other machines in the network can communicate perfectly with the DC. Any ideas what could be causing this and how can I fix it? Thanks Dale

Time Sync
by Guest Randy- 4 replies

How can I check that XP Pro members of my domain are actually syncing time to the DC (Server 2003 R2 SP1)? On another thread, someone suggested: "Do your computers synchronize the time with DC? Use this command to test it: net time /querysntp." So I tried that on a couple of machines and get results such as: The current SNTP value is: time.windows.com,0x1 The reason I'm looking is that there is a single XP machine in the office that is an hour off. A net time result for it also has some extra Time Zone info that none of the other machines have: Current time at \\mach1 is 11/1/2007 8:56 AM Local time (GMT-05:00) at \\mach1 is 11/1/2007 7:56…

Measuring Connections for Firewall Specification
by Guest David Morgan- 1 reply

Hello We are looking at getting a new firewall to protect our web servers. (2 x Windows 2003 R2 running IIS.) One of the questions we have been asked is, under normal load, what is the number of connection attempts per second and how many open connections would the firewall need to support? Can someone tell me the best way to collect this information? I know that there is a connection attempts counter within performance monitor, but how about open connections? Thanks David

Hi. We have 2 DCs. Both running just about the same software and services. Both have DNS. Server "A" also has DHCP. Server "B" doesn't. Noticed recently on Server "A" that services.exe is sucking up 140 MB of RAM [as per the task manager] while services.exe on Server "B" is hovering at around 40 MB of RAM. Both have Win 2K3 SP2. Both should be up to date on any security updates. Ideas? [Aside from rebooting].

XP Domain users and Local users laptop login question??
by Guest steve- 4 replies

Laptop users are a bit confusing to me. Say I have a Laptops that can connect to the domain, ( if set up of course) but also because they are transportable don't alway connect to the domain. eg at home or on the road. I also know ( or think I know ??) that a laptop domain user lets call him MrDomainUser can logon to the laptop some number of times not connected to the domain. That there is some cache that allows a non authenticated user to login and access his files.(am I right here??) However once that cache has expired, ( I dont know the rules for this) but anyway, once its expired he cannot log in as MrDomainUser, untill he is connected to the domain again. …

Network Slow down after several hours
by Guest Blacksheep- 2 replies

We have a W2k3 sp2 Dell 2850 server we are using for file share and roaming profiles. It is running an Intel Pro 1000 MT NIC. After being online for several hours the network traffic thru the NIC slows down to about 1%. Removing the cable from the NIC and Re-inserting it restores the performance of the server. We have changed the cabling from the NIC to the Cisco Catalyst Switch, Changed Ports and still the same issue. Yesterday the problem would come back within an hour. I changed the NIC settings to all for Jumbo Frames to alleviate the load on the server and increase throughput. The server was fine all day until we came in this morning and the same pro…

Hello, I am trying to configure the Windows server 2003 Fax which i did successfully. But as our server is very limited on disk space (c: is running out of space). I would like to change all the fax folders to another local drive. Now it is possible to do most of them through the MS Fax Service manager but the most crucial once is the Queue and the Common cover pages, these we cannot change them through the console. I did some research and some pages saying we have to do it in the registry key but i just don't know where the reg key is. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance Nile

by Guest HulloSon- 0 replies

On 2 domain member servers, we use administrator or a member of domain admins to start specific services. Rebooting or restarting the services requires reentering the password for the account. I've setup a GP to allow the particular user the rigth to logon as a service as per the KB article which number which escapes me at this moment, to no avail. Part II; anyone have a script that restarts a service not running as system account, and needing a password? thnx in advance
