printing on server 2003 x64

I am migrating from a 5 year old server 2003 x86 server to new server 2003 x64 server. I am running in to a problem loading the print drivers. The client machines are all xp pro x86 machines. I've tried installing the x 64 version of the print drivers as well as the x86 version. None of them will install. They either tell me that this is the wrong hardware platform or that the driver needs to be installed from a remote machine. Any help will be appreciated Thanks,

Roaming profiles load slowly
by Guest joeB545- 2 replies

I am using Win Server 2003 and WinXP SP 2 in a very small domain. There is one server and three workstations. All updates are current. When I have roaming profiles active, it takes more than five minutes for to log on and off. When inactive, the process takes about 15 seconds. An examination of my profile on the client machine shows that the profile is about 3G in size. Half of that is an Outlook .pst file. Why does the log on/off process take so long and what can I do to speed it up? -- joe B

hi, is it possible to programmatically invoke microsoft indexing service to index only the files that i want, and when i want to, rather than have it watch the contents of nominated folders and index everything it finds there. i need to be able to programmatically point the service to a file to index it, and then delete the file, but the results of indexing would stay in the index. is this possible, and how - i could not find anything in the documentation. thanks andrew

I need to load the Visual Studio 8 Trial vesion for my developer to try out. However, the only download offered is an iso file, and I don't have a DVD biurner (it's 3.3GB). Is there a utility for MS Server 2003 to read an iso file without buying a package I'm only going to use once (like ISOBuster). Why would they /only/ have an iso download? tia -- Kevin

Hello, I'm using Schtasks to create a scheduled task on a remote server using the SYSTEM account to run it. After I create the scheduled task, remote into the server, I try and run it and it comes back with status of "Could not start". When I view the log, it says "The system cannot find the file specified.". The really frustrating problem is I can open the scheduled task, copy the path and paste it into the run command and it will launch my executable. So the path IS correct! If I delete the task and create it manually, browsing to the same executable, it will run just fine! So it seems to be something with creating it with Schtasks. Here is my co…

Security Log Keeps Filling...
by Guest KWME- 1 reply

I'm running a pretty new xeon server with Sever 2003 and all service packs. I've got this on-going problem with the security log. It keeps filling and stopping the server. I've reduced the number of items that it logs, I've incresed the maximum log size, and I've selected 'Overwrite events as needed' but every time I check the security log properties it has reset to 'Overwrite events older than 7 days' and it stopps server operations. Why is this happening? How can I get the machine to keep the settings?

we have a SpectraLogic T50 connected via fiber to a NetApp 3020 filer and want to run test backups using ntbackup. Our Syncsort backup software keeps failing so we want to take it out of the equation and try ntbackup (or something just as quick & easy). is ntbackup up to the job and can handle ndmp protocol to get data to the T50? other suggestions certainly welcomed.
