I know there is a full version of Windows Server 2008 has been released, but I have Windows Server 2008 Beta on a DVD. Will I still be able to install it? Or is it going to ask me for activation, at which point it might refuse to get activated since Beta testing period is over.

Question on Terminal Server
by Guest Peter- 1 reply

Hi, I am working on packaging with InstallShield (with MSI), recently we have issues of installing our package on systems that with Terminal Server installed. The systems involved is mostly W2K3 Server, if not all. Now I am assigned the issue and am looking at it, and I got many questions due to my lack of knowledge of Windows (server) systems and remote connection services. First, our product support OSs of W2K server, W2K3 server, XP, and Vista, but my search so far is that only in W2K3 server you can explicitly install (or turn on) Terminal Server, so it can become a terminal server, but not in other 3 OSs (W2K server, XP, and Vista, not conside…

can't execute files over network
by Guest SteveW- 4 replies

Hi, I have a user on an NT domain (XP SP2 client) who can't execute any files located on any network shares. She can create files and delete files in those shares, but not run any executables. The error message is "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." The shares are mostly on 2003 member servers. I even tried giving her Domain Admin rights but that made no difference! I also noted that when she logs on to a PC with Office 2003 installed, the installation wizard runs, but doesn't show any options or dialog boxes, ie it runs in the background. I would like for her to be able…

Can you have a KMS host that will activate multiple OS's such as Vista, 2008 Std, and Ent? If so, now? The command I know of will wipe the original key if you import a new one.

Reinstall certificate services management website
by Guest Florian Rittmeier- 0 replies

Hello, can anybody explain on how to setup the management website for Windows Server 2003 certificate services after the certificate services have been installed? I have to reinstall IIS to troubleshot problems with WSUS but cannot make a backup of the configuration as reinstall of IIS shall use default settings... As certificate services are essential for the domain I manage, I have to make sure that I can setup the management website without reinstall certificate services (cause I fear to loose the certificates when uninstalling, but I don`t know if this will happen). Regards, Florian

by Guest John Whites- 2 replies

I downloaded the client side extensions for Windows XP and have been testing them out with my Windows 2008 test box. Question 1: at this page: http://www.windowsecurity.com/articles/Group-Policy-related-changes-Windows-Server-2008-Part3.html He says you all you need to use this is vista or server 08 with the remote tools... Am I to understand that I don't need to even have a SINGLE domain controller at all upgraded to server 2008 to use the client side extension features like preferences (map drives, shortcuts etc) Question 2: I notice when using the map drive extension that if you give a drive a name and have say 3 drive mappings specified on t…

I am working on a Dell Poweredge 2900 with an integrated RAID controller. The server consists of 2 RAID 1 160GB hard drives. I have a few 80GB hard drives and would like to ghost the OS Image from the 160 GB Drive to the RAID 0 80GB hard drive. The trouble I am having is that after the ghost is complete the server will not boot from the 80GB drive. Is there a way to break the 160gb Mirror or convert to RAID 0, before GHOSTING

MMC cannot open the file C:\....\file_name.msc
by Guest David- 10 replies

Win2003SBS SP2 This has just to appear after the possibly coincidental uninstallation of Panda Business Secure Exchange. Start -> Run -> anything.msc and MMC cannot open the file ... This may be because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC. This may also be because you do not have sufficient rights to the file. From the command prompt mmc.exe browse to a .msc same error.. Any assistance gratefully received. -- David @ Solsletta
