I am running W2K3 SP2 (PDC FSMO) with AD, IIS6.0, SMTP, NNSTP, ASP, ASPNET, etc. I am trying to install Exchange Server 2003. I need to create a user that has privileges that are Domain, AD Schema, Enterprise, Forest wide (All-in-One). I logged in as the local Administrator on the W2K3/PDC FSMO. I created a new user (bigdog) and added them to the local admin, domain admin, and enterprise admin groups. Is this sufficient to make this user a Domain, AD Schema, Enterprise, &Forest wide (All-in-One) User so that I can install Exchange Server 2003. So far, this has not worked. What else do I need to do????? Help??? -- NuBee

R2 Version Confusion
by Guest MS Poster- 2 replies

Hello: I have Open License versions of both Server 2003 Standard and Enterprise. I also have my OL key for R2 Enterprise. If I run the R2 installer from a network share (that is, I execute Setup2.exe) to an W2k3 Ent SP1 machine, it installs fine. If I run it against W2k3 Standard SP1 machine, it fails with "Setup cannot continue because the operating system edition is different from the Setup edition." Do I need a different version of R2 for Standard? Or do I just need a different license key? I have Software Assurance. Should this be covered by SA? Thanks.

move or rename \$RECYCLE.BIN
by Guest George Valkov- 1 reply

My workspace folder is S:\. That's 2 clicks away: My Computer, S:\ The less items to distract me in that folder, the better. Anything that can be moved to another folder is a solution to clean my workspace. Any solution to clean my workspace is Greatly Appreciated! Here is the plan: 1. Items that will remain: System Volume Information 2. Items that I would like to move to sub-folder or merge together: $RECYCLE.BIN RECYCLER NOTE: \$RECYCLE.BIN is created by Windows 2008 Server so I'd like to configure it to use "RECYCLER" instead. As a preferred alternative, I'd like to move it to: \folder\$RECYCLE.BIN \RECYCLER is created by Windows 2003 server. I…

sShortDate Format for All Users
by Guest Don Miller- 0 replies
For my web app, I wanted the shortdate format to be "M/d/yy" instead of the default "M/d/yyyy" for all users, especially anonymous users (IUSR). On my Win2K server that was easily accomplished by changing the registry HKUsers/.Default/ControlPanel/International/sShortDate setting. However, I migrated to Win2003, made those changes to the registry (and also via the Control Panel for just one user I guess) and it does not ever take effect. Is there a way to change the default format for ShortDate for all users with Win2003 after the machine is already set up? Thanks for any help.

Hi all, We always put page file in the seperate partition of the same disk as OS C. Like: C: OS E: Page file. If we put the pagefile in the OS (big partition), will it hurt performance? Is it better to put page file in the seperate partition of the same disk as OS C than to put page file in the OS? Which way is better? Thank you.

WebDav problem maybe?
by Guest Brett R. Wesoloski- 5 replies

I created a program for printing documents which are stored in sharepoint. This program uses the UNC path to get the documents. In IE on vista I can type in the UNC path and the file comes up. I am having problem on the server where this code is run however. It is a Windows 2003 sp2 server. When I put in the UNC path in IE the file does not come up. I get an error to check the spelling. I know the link is correct because I copied and pasted the link. Now I also went into Windows explorer on my vista machine and I could map the network drive. It comes back with DavWWWRoot so that is where I think this might be a WebDav problem. Because when I go to the Win…

Cannot Copy/Paste or move files on 2000 Server.
by Guest Mr Happy- 3 replies

We have a windows 2000 server with SP4 and all the latest patches running Citrix Metaframe XP. The problem is rather odd, here is a scenario: I had a zip file I wanted to extract and move to the Desktop. I created a folder named tools. I extracted the files to a directory where I wanted to keep them for future use. I then tried to copy the files from that folder to the tools folder on the desktop. When I try to move the files I get no error it just doesn't happen. I could however extract the files from WinZip to that same folder instead of moving them there through explorer. Now for the odd part. I can go to another server and access the hidden sha…

Mac client on 2k3 server
by Guest musicman- 1 reply

I am testing/evaluating a 2k3 server for general use. A significant part of my user base uses Mac OSX desktops. They can get to the server OK, but have no ability to control access to their files and folders as far as I can tell. Is there some way they can gain the ability to manage the settings that a Windows client finds in the security tab (or am I just ignorant of what is built in to Mac OSX). Ie., it would be nice if a Mac client could make a r/o folder available to a specified group or user. Pointers to either MS or 3rd party solutions would be appreciated.

by Guest Wanda- 1 reply

I have a Windows 2003 Server which has IIS 6.0. Whenever a user goes to webpage on this server, they would get an error 'Service Unavailable'. It's started happening 3 weeks ago. It seems to occurs when W3SVC stops: 'Application pool 'DefaultAppPool' is being automatically disabled due to a series of failures in the process(es) serving that application pool' When checking the http error log, it would have the following: 503 1 AppOffline DefaultAppPool Connection_Abandoned_By_AppPool DefaultAppPool This server is not a domain controller. It does not have Active Directory nor does it have Sharepoint installed. Usually when I restart IIS, the issue is…

Help on "insufficient system resource" error...
by Guest Lewis Henderson- 0 replies
Hi All, I occasionally get an "insufficient system resource" error message from a database management system my company has developed. I noticed that there was a recent fix to SQL Server for this same problem (KB274310). My app isn't based on SQL server, but if this SQL fix was something generic in the I/O handling that I might be able to replicate in my code, then I'd like to know. Can anyone out there find out what this SQL fix was, or if you've run into a similar problem, how did you fix it? Thanks for any and all information. Lewis Henderson henderso@opentext.com

Re-partitioning a drive
by Guest happydude- 2 replies

I am relatively new to the server world and need to free up space on a Windows Server 2003 drive. I have found great suggestions from Newell White on moving the pagefile to another drive that has more space. This I will help but I was wondering how do you move the pagefile? Also, what are some basic things I should know before any attempt is made to re-partition a drive? Thank you very much for your help. -- Cheers, John
