Easy Assist equivalent.. remote assistance software ideas for remote customers? Live Meeting? Etc.. We are a small to midsize company with about 40 users and 4 windows 2003 servers.. we have OCS 2007 installed with live meeting, but have no official "edge server" or dmz topology.. we sit behind a single firewall with a single public ip address.. We do have the ability to add a public ip to a secondary nic on a machine and/or use virtualization inside another machine if need be.. What i'm trying to determine is what the cheapest remote assistance type feature would be for our remote customers for support of our Products. We have an MSDN and action pack subscr…

My Server 2003 Evaluation Expired
by Guest Nelson Ogden- 2 replies

Dear group: I recently installed Windows Server 2003 - 180 day evaluation. All was fine until I had a problem with the computer and accidently reset the bios date! I didn't realize that the bios date was wrong until I rebooted the computer. Now Windows says that my evaluation has expired even though I correctly set the date. I found this article - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/812545 - that describes my situation but offers no solution. Can anyone here suggest what I should do? I'm not concerned about retreiving data, just need to get the server running for a while longer. Thanks!

Virtual Server 2005 - can Guest OS be timed to "save state"
by Guest Chris Swinney- 2 replies

Hi, Not sure where this question will go as there is no specific Vitual Server 2005 newsgroup. We run different guest OS system on a Virtual server, some of which are shared client OS's (for testing etc - more effeciient than using Virtual PC). Users can connect using the VMRC client to control use these OS's, but if a client is disconnected, the Guest OS remain running, so consuming Host OS resources. Is there any way to get the guest OS to go into a "saved state" if no longer needed. I can't see that any of the script options will do what I need, but I'm not sure. Chris

RE: Delete Windows Onecare There is another way to remove OneCare on your pc and I think this is much better than going to the add or remove programs. There is a cleanup tool that you can download on the microsoft.com site which is the ONECARE CLEANUP TOOL http://download.microsoft.com/download/3/a/5/3a55dc68-6466-43e8-b886-f6e1ab829d12/OneCareCleanup.exe Go to this link and you should be able to download the clean up tool just remember to save it on your desktop. I am helping my new client fix a number of networking problems on their 2K3 network. One of the issues, that has been plaguing them for months is the LDAP error event ID 40960: >>The Security System detected an authentication error for the server LDAP/<servername@domain...>. The failure code from authentication protocol Kerberos was "The attempted logon is invalid. Can anyone help me? My computer won't let me write cd r's or dvd r's. When I insert a blank dvd or cd, windows asks me if I want to open the writeable cd folder or not. I click to open the writeable folder and it opens as normal but, when I drag or try to paste a file into the folder, it just says it experienced a problem and do I want to try again. Also, I don't get the option under My Computer to right click on the CD drive and select format; also if I explore the blank cd it just displays as 'cd drive D:' - it's as though the computer just won't recognise that there's a writeable cd in the drive. Does anyone have any ideas for me? I'm running XP H…

Posts 1 No administrator rights on server 2003 even though part of administrator group Hi Guys As there does not appear to be a server 2003 forum I'm posting here. I have installed 3 member servers as part of a domain (Two AD domain controllers). When logging onto these servers with the administrator account used to logon to the DC's I am unable to perform administrator functions even though the administrator account has been added to the local administrator group. When logging on I cant even right click. We are running Group policy managment but the admin accounts do not have any profiles attached and do not app…

Slow connection with new server
by Guest Chuck_N- 14 replies

I am preparing a new server to replace our 5 year old server running Wndows Server 2003 - Enterprise edition. That server has been upgraded through several versions of servers probably back to an early version of NT. As a result, it retains the old directory structure. We only have 20 workstations that are served by the server. It handles everthing for us including file sharing, web site, FTP, Exchange Server 2003, enterprise virus protection, and probably a few more tasks. It is obviously the PDC. This 5 year old server is running great and has had no problems. Because of its age, we are replacing it with a new server, and are planning the same co…

DHCP Backup - Windows 2003
by Guest Andrew- 5 replies

Hello... I am trying to develop a backup solution for our DHCP servers using the netsh dhcp server export command. However, we need to run this command as our scheduler account (typical domain user, no elevated access). The account is receiving an 'access is denied' error when attempting to run the netsh command. Does anyone know how to grant a user permission on the netsh command to backup the database?

Uninstalled SharepointServices 3.0, it removed my default website containing OWA and Certserv websites

Uninstalled SharepointServices 3.0, it removed my default website containing OWA and Certserv websites I wanted to move my WSS 2.0 to a new server housing WSS 3.0. So I thought I would upgrade the website to 3.0 than backup and move. The server is Windows 2003 R2 all updated and patched. That went well. Then I decided I did not need WSS 3.0 on the original machine for space reasons. So I uninstalled. Well that removed my entire Default Website, which housed CertServ, OWA and all of the Exchange webs. Now I am uncertain what is the best course of action. Reinstall WSS 3.0 and then retrieve files from backup? What files would I need exactly? The contents o…

Hi all, Thank you for your help in advance. Little urgent as it is for my Police Depart... the most demandging one :) Here is the situation. I have a R2 app server joined the domain. I can ping it by the name from a pc. I also have XP workstation joined the domain here. DNS settings are correctly setup on both clients and server. If I tried to access the R2 from a workstation by typing \\WindowsR2\share_name (or just \\windowsR2), it would tell you an error message saying The account is not authorized to log in from this workstation. I believe the workstation is up-to-date. I think this is the same to the R2 as well. What this happen? and how to sol…

I have a client that is using a Quantum DLT-V4 on a Windows 2003 server with ntbackup to perform backups. I recently tried to restore a single file from one of the tapes and received an error: "An inconsistency has been enountered on the requested media" The backups seem to be performing properly, as there have been no errors pertaining to a failed backup on the server. I tried to restore from multiple different tapes and I get the same error. Any ideas on what i can try to resolve this? -- sqeet ------------------------------------------------------------------------ sqeet's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=33627 View this thread…

I am thinking of a tool that does kind of "snaphot" every x hours and tell me what changes have occured in diskspace usage. I am currently using "DiskScout" , this is a nice tool and basically does what I need - but maybe there is something else I could use for a comparision? thx & bye Steve

Hello Everyone, I'm a Client Systems Administrator for McCoy Corporation and our users are having the same issue. What is the batch file you created as a logon script to fix this issue? If it's fine by you I'd like to be able to test implementing this into our environment. To add to that we have some users who are having difficulty accessing legacy software when connected through the VPN due to these same restrictions. Thank you. Stewart Moreland

Hello All: I was wondering if there is a way to install software on remote client machines (XP and VISTA) without using the RDP or Group Policy. I have tried using the PSEXEC (Mark Rassianovich's pstools), but had limited success, also tried remote installer trial version and it didn't always work. Cheers.
