Server migration
by Guest Jeff Kimbro- 0 replies

I have looked and all the server migrations I see say to similar hardware. I have a customer that wants to migrate from Windows 2003 SP1 to Windows 2003 R2 SP2 on totaly differnet hardware and keep the same server names. Not a problem except for the fact that it is a DC and the only DC at that location. So is there a step by step guild to do a migration to different hardware while keeping the same name. The only thing on this server is DNS and AD.

User account problem
by Guest Kryten- 0 replies

Hi, I look after a Win 2003 SP2 IIS ADAM box that's giving a seemingly strange problem that I'd appreciate a steer with if possible. The box is dedicated to running a single web with a back end sybase database. Sometimes users on browsing to the web get a strange "web service has failed to execute" message and the http session ends. The box gets rebooted and all is well again..for a few days. When this happens the only thing I can see in the logfiles is in the system log Event ID 10004 DCOM errors saying that a certain account could not log in as it was locked out. The user account referenced is the main functional account for the web application and I can l…

Hi, I need to get my users to go to the Internet via a proxy server. At the moment we just forward all traffic to our firewall. Is ISA 2006 the best way to go? If so Stadard or Enterprise? Thanks

Raid 5 with 4 drives
by Guest Adelxt- 7 replies

Hi, I'm presently running a raid 5 with 3 drives. If two of the three drives fail, then I would have to re-install the OS and restore from backup. If I use 4 drives for a Raid 5, would I not have to restore the OS until three of the 4 drives failed? Would it be 4 of 5 drives if I chose to have a Raid 5 using 5 drives. What I'm thinking is that the possibilities of more then two drives failing at once is slim but if that happens I could still keep my OS intact if I used a Raid 5 of 4 drives or more. Thanks Steve

by Guest Claudio- 1 reply

Hi, i wanted to know on a Windows 2003 SP1 server, that is a domain controller, is there any policy that allows to keep a log file on the files opened through the network? I mean the shared folderĀ“s files, when a user read it or modified it, simply keeps a time table with the user involved. Or a software that does that? Thanks for any answer you can share. Bye

CA Version: STRD or ENTP how do I tell
by Guest Chris Douglas [EM]- 0 replies

So here's an insanely, probably obvious to everyone BUT me, stupid question, BUT... Apart from being able to install and activate new templates, is there a method (e.g. help-about which DOESNT work btw), to indicate whether an installed Certificate Auth is either a standard or enterprise version? I realize the pico-second I post this, I'll figure it out, but I dont see a simple method... TIA, Chrisdo

Window Server 2003 Indexing Service
by Guest Tra- 2 replies

I would like to ask for comments and known problems on the indexing service with Windows Server 2003. I am trying to find resolution to a problem I am having with accessing files from the server. When my users open windows explorer or/and the search to locate files on the server there is about an 5 to 8 second pause before it connects and starts searching or displaying files. After the pause it seems fine. I would love it if I could gets results instantly when searching for files and even when clicking on a mapped network drive. Thank you, Tracey

Simple question about users and groups
by Guest CB- 1 reply

If I add a user to a group (in computer management, local users and groups) it seems to have no effect until after a restart of the machine. Ditto for removing a user from a group. Is that expected? Do changes in group membership not apply to the user's permissions until after a restart? The question involves Windows 2003 Server.

I would like to gather performance counter data remotely for machines that reside in our DMZ. The machine gathering all the data is in the LAN, therefore I need to open the firewall to pass the traffic from the DMZ to the LAN. So, my question is what port do I need to open?

Mixing Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 with x86
by Guest guillaume.leonard- 0 replies

Greetings, in our company, we have an Active Directory on Windows 2003 Server. Here's what it looks like for now : Two (2) Domain Controllers : Windows 2003 Server x86 (NOT R2) Active Directory Schema : Windows 2003 Server x86 R2 We had a 2003 R2 Domain Controller (DC) before, this is why our AD Schema is now on R2. What we want to do now, is add a new DC to the Domain. This DC will be on Windows 2003 Server x64 R2. This is where I have to ask some questions : Is there any known incompatibility with x64 R2 and x86 NON-R2 ? Except the bug in KB919151 of Microsoft, which is "Cannot deplay a Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 Edition-Based domain controller in a Wi…
