Hi all, Our data is very precious as i'm sure most companies data is, however I am struggling to get my head round the proper way I should be using NTBackup to make the most of the backups. In terms of space and room to move with backups, i'm spoilt for choice with loads of storage space available (3 x RAID1 Mirror Set of 1TB Hard Disks). I want to make the most of the NTbackup features. Would it be acceptable to do an Incremental on Sundays and Wednesdays, and Daily Backups between those incrementals. At the moment I'm only doing Incremental so the previous days backup is overwritten with new changes. We have disks offsite for backup from a while…

problem connecting to print server - win2003 server
by Guest bill allemann- 2 replies

Just started a new server with win2003 small biz, and am trying to connect to an older HP Jetdirect multiport print server. I normally have used HP's INPW (something? Network Printer Wizard, whatever) software in the past to create ports. INPW can't see the pserver, even though I can ping it OK. I've tried both specific IP and hardware addresses, no help. On the same LAN, the same software on a workstation PC with WinXP can find the pserver OK, and that PC has been printing thru the pserver for ome time. I don't have Windows Firewall enabled at all, and an older PC on the LAN can see a test file share on the new server. I remember that the internet…

Need Advice for DHCP for Remote Laptops
by Guest razor- 2 replies

Hello-- We are running a Windows 203 Server and Windows XP environment. We have a DHCP server within our subnet. Several of our staff have laptops that they take out into the field for unspecified periods of time, and then return to the office and plug them into the network again. In some instances, their IP lease expires on the laptop while they are out out in the field, another client within the LAN is assigned that same IP address and then the remote staff returns to the office, plugs their laptop in and now I show two devices on my network with the same IP address. Is there a solution for this? Many thanks, -- Stephen

Print Spooler cannot start
by Guest hinarei- 1 reply

Hello, I've recently rebuilt a domain controller to W2k3R2 SP2, and for some reason am getting strange results after setting it up as a print server. We did a printmig from our old server to the new one, which seemed to work correctly, tested printing, working fine. A couple of days later users in that office complained they couldn't change their settings (printing defaults and so on). One printer (Canon iR) was okay, we were having problems with our HP CLJ3600, which when Printing Defaults was clicked, came up with an unhandled exception error. I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, and then rebooted the server. Received a DEP message saying …

Windows Server 2003 SP2 on an HP ML350G3.It is a DC and general File and Print Server. On a few weekends over the last 2 months the DNS server has started using more and more CPU cycles until the system is extremely unresponsive. This shuts down our email as the Exchange Server can't resolve any addresses. I have searched for solutions with no luck. There are no obvious entires in the event viewer and I'm just not sure what to do next. Any suggestions welcomed. Cheers Roger

Windows Time service to use an external time source issue
by Guest stargaten- 3 replies

Hello all, Well, I followed the KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816042 to use an external time source for my domain. I thought the procedure went well until I ran the following: w32tm /resync /rediscover and I received the following message: Sending resync command to local computer... The computer did not resync because no time data was available. I have used time.windows.com and my ISPs NTP server same issue. Also, I'm receiving Event ID 38 in the System event logs. I have also checked my GPOs Default and DC policy and the items pertaining to windows time are not configured. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks
