Certificate Template Creation
by Guest RAZ- 1 reply

We have a small domain with two Win2K3 servers. My so called PDC is our Certificate Authority. This server is Standard edition. My other domain controller is receiving autoenrollment events in the event viewer with the following message: "Automatic certificate enrollment for local system failed to enroll for one Domain Controller certificate (0x80070005). Access is denied." The second domain controller is Win2K3 Enterprise edition. I tried installing a new smart card certificate template but learned I can't do that with the PDC because it is standard edition which won't allow V2 template creation. How can I solve this issue? Is it wise to have more the…

Server 2003 R2 SP2 and WMP 10
by Guest reswob- 0 replies

Hi, I have a question. I did a vulnerability scan on an 2003 server and one of the findings relates to WMP 10, issues detailed in KB941569 and KB944275. Attempts to patch the server using either of those patches results in a box saying "The version of Windows you have installed does not match the update you are trying to install". Attempts to upgrade to WMP 11 get me a box saying WMP 11 is only for XP. WMP 10 is NOT listed in add/remove programs even with 'show updates' clicked nor could I find it in "add/remove Windows Components". This server will not be allowed on the network with this finding unpatched as the finding is rated as 'HIGH'. Does anyo…

Hi We have reciently had a member of staff marry and we have changed their username to their new name. We have two problems: 1 - We base a lot of file locations within the user profile on the name. The contents of the profile is downloaded but the old profile name is used, therefore the file locations are incorrect. We need to delete the profile from each machine that they have previously logged onto - which is not ideal! 2 - Once we have deleted the profile from the workstation and logged them on, outlook cannot find the OST file. Any advice would be much appreciated on how to force the workstaion to download the new profile name and realign the os…

I have a Xerox Phaser 1235 color printer that every day spits out 25-40 pages of unreadable garbage. One line per page. Users do not print this, it comes out on its own. A few lines are readable they mention: SMB - PC Network Program 1.03 - Microsoft Networks 1.03 I cannot seem to stop this stuff from coming out. Has anyone seen this behaviour with this model of printer? -- Thank You

Dear MS, Im having problems connecting a W2003.net server (Workgroup) to a Win2k DC over the network. I can access the shares from Win2k > Win2003 ok, but the other way generates the following error: \\server is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. The account is not authorized to log in from this machine. I have checked various MS articles and help on the web to no avail. BTW - this was working before the Win2003 machine had crashed. The machine is now rebuilt and placed on the same network. Please advise. Regards Paul

Hi there, I met a very weird problem today. Our Windows Server 2k3 R2 (this is a DC) doesn't work, when we tried to reboot it, some weird information shows up as follows, Now provisioning: D01 VNFS: sl-5.0.i386 Group: Cluster Node ID: 00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx mount: RPC: Unable to send; errorno = Network is unreachable ERROR: Could not mount NFS file system! I'm wondering whether anyone knows the weird information, does it mean our networking card is broken or else? Why does the server need to mount NFS when booting? I appreicate any comments. Ray

Backup Of Doamin Controllers

How often should a DC be backed up? One admin at my company says we only need to backup one DC and if any others fail then we reinstall them and DCPROMO them from a another DC. I'm thinking I want a complete backup of each DC at least once a week. I would like to have a system state everyday and may do that to disk. Do all DC's need to be backed up - or just one. How often is often enough?

I have a Windows 2003 R2 x64, SP2 server with a Quantum SuperLoader 3 LTO 2 tape library attached. I have been using ntbackup to back up the server to the tape drive for at least a year with no trouble. At some point a couple of weeks ago I ran into a problem where backups have stopped working. When I click on the Removable Storage node in Computer Mgmt. I get this error message: "A device attached to the system is not functioning. The snapin's display may be inconsistent with the Removable Storage Service." When RMS starts, I get the following error in the System log: "RSM cannot manage library Changer0. The database is corrupt." I followed the li…
