WSUS and deploying IE7 (genuine advantage??)
by Guest Freaky- 0 replies
Hey there, until several months ago IE7 was automatically deployed through WSUS. Appearantly this is no longer the case. Searched for recently installed computers in WSUS and they all report the 'Not Applicable' (freely translated) status on the update. These are XP machines, so I don't see how they would not be applicable. My guess would be it has something to do with Windows Genuine Advantage. WGA also seems to prevent me from pushing WindowsDefender to the clients. Is there anyways I can resolve these issues? Probably would need to push the WGA to the clients, which I would suspect WSUS to do, but can't find it. TIA & Kind regards

Appologises if this comes across as dump question.... I am trying to learn and use a Radius server using my PC which is running Windows XP. I can't find any free downloads of a Radius server which are simple and easy to use and that run on Windows XP. The Internet Authentication Service (IAS) is available with Windows Server 2003. Whilst I understand that "Windows Server 2003" is an operating system ... what is it's purpose ? how does it differ from Windows XP? what platform does this run ? would I be able to run "Windows Server 2003" on my pc ? Thank you for your help. Pete

Hi I have a Windows 2003 domain with 50 Windows XP SP2 desktops joined to the domain. The users can open a session on the domain from any desktop. I need to ensure that after 30 minutes of iddle time on her or his computer, the user session will be locked out (for example when the user goes away for lunch without properly closing the session). I tried to find something in the Default Group Policy of the domain but could'nt figure which setting is OK. Help appreciated. Nicolas

Windows Server 2003 SP2 Upgrade Failure
by Guest Ron- 6 replies
Trying to upgrade our Windows Server 2003 Enterprise SP1 to SP2. Keep receiving this message "e:\546..|I386\update\update.inf file is not correct" and the update fails. I'm doing this from the CD that MS sent me. I was able to successfully update to SP2 on 3 other servers. It automatically picks the E drive and doesnt' allow me to choose another drive. Also this is our exchange server with Exchange 2003 SP2. I've made sure that my inf file has full permissions for the user I'm logged on as. What else could be causing this problem. Judging from Google this seems to be a big issue without too many solutions.

Daylight Saving Time changes
by Guest Don Devenney- 2 replies

Sorry if I've posted this in the wrong forum - this is the closest I could find. I've "been the route" on the support site as far as the upcoming time changes are concerned. I was easily able to find / download the appropriate files for desktops, servers, etc. HOWEVER, they're all ".exe" files - I need (at least I think I do) ".msi" files so that I can push this update out via GPO. Any thoughts as to a)where I can get these files as ".msi" files or b) how I can use GPO to push them out? Thanks for your help

by Guest Starz- 1 reply

my setup: 2 virtual PCs: VPC1 - w2k3 enterprise edition, domain controller, dns, dhcp, file server, and JUST installed exchange 2k3. VPC2- win xp, just a normal client machine. after the install, it said that exchange was installed successfully, blah blah blah, and that the machine needed to be restarted. ok cool. so it's doing its thing, but now it takes about an hour for it to get to the login screen. its getting stuck at "preparing network connections". then it takes another 45-60 minutes to login, getting stuck at "applying computer settings" or something. when im finally able to login, it doesn't show network connectivity. meaning, there's no …

Offline Files Issue
by Guest lforbes- 3 replies
I had a server go offline for a few days due to a network cascade. This created a big MESS with regards to Offline Files. Users are logging in and their My Documents and their mapped drives aren't there until they synchronize. I have disabled Offline files at the server but it doesn't seem to be taking effect. I know how to initialize the cache but I have 500 machines and would really rather not do it manually on each. Is there a batch file or a way to remotely delete the offline file cache on startup? The files are all html and jpg IE files (even though I said NOT to cache those file types) Thanks Lara

Installing RIS on Windows Sever 2003
by Guest justin2312@gmail.com- 10 replies

I've read a few how-to docs on installing Remote Installation Service (RIS) on Windows Server 2003; they all seem to say go to Add/Remove Programs> Windows Components and select "Remote Installation Service". I looked on my server, however, and the option isn't listed there at all. I'm sure the server is Windows Server 2003 SP1, is there any reason why the feature would be absent?

Mapping of home folders for users
by Guest acoustix- 3 replies
I've been having an issue with home folders being misdirected when a user logs into their desktop. I'm not sure if this is a server config issue or a desktop OS issue. All clients are running WinXP Pro SP2. All domain controllers are Win 2003 SP1. Home folders are cofigured on users profiles in AD. I have selected "connect H: to: \\servername\home\username". The "home" folder group is shared on the server to domain users. The home folders are also hosted on a DC. When a user logs in the H: drive normally points to the correct location. But I'm seeing more and more of the workstations mapping the H: drive to \\server\home and then the user sees…

can't access logon scripts
by Guest H- 1 reply
Hi, I've got a problem whereby our users can't access the logon scripts. If you browse to the netlogon share we are unable to open the scripts, getting the error message:- "windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropiate permissions to acceess the item." This happens even when logged on as administrator. Checking the permissions on the files and they are fine. If I browse on the server to c:\windows\sysvol\domain\scripts I can open the scripts up fine. This is causing me problems as no-one is getting their mapped network drives! Can anyone help? -H
